He sent much the same to whoever he could find online, it seems.

I think that's twice now he's eaten the food and got tired. If I were the paranoid type I'd say there was something going on with that. But we can't tell him to stop eating, he'll starve!

Catch-22

This is the picture he found:

I think that it's safe to say that this image is intended for us, James' would-be rescuers, rather than James himself. Anyone who could slip him this message would have to be aware that even ignoring his current mental state, the computer he has access to won't help him with this.

There is probably at least one message hidden in this image (duh), but straight away I can see that the font is designed for Spanish; the two question marks are different characters, not simply the same character rotated 180 degrees.

I agree about the spanish question marks. But I am unclear of the meaning...don't they just use two question marks to denote a question instead of one like used in english?

Also, I can't view source on the page so that was no help. The stripes are a repeating pattern....can you determine what the actual colors are without viewing source?

Solved it! (yay my first solve!)

I opened the image in an editor and picked out the hex codes for the colors (given they're solid bars)

Broke those up and converted each hex value to an ascii character and got:

Oh jesus. I've given them my email address, address and phone number :S

Anyone know what the boxes at the bottom are for?

Also, yay for a solve from me:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
If you read the wordsearch from top left to bottom right it reads "DEFECTHTML" so, when you go to http://libereelmundo.org/defect.html you get a fake 404 error page (reason I say it's fake, the title is not found it not - double negative)

Which then leads to the best of the best!!!

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
So, if you take the like that the fake 404 page has: http://www.defect.libereelmundo.org/ , you get his blog! Yay for me!

So yeah, fun fun fun!

Jeb

EDIT: OHSHITOHSHITOHSHITOHSHITOHSHITOHSHITOHSHIT. I've just read the last like I gave you, and given what I said at the top of the paragraph... OHSHITOHSHITOHSHITOHSHIT...

Just some little things, no doubt most of you already noticed, but it often helps to write things down.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
When read from the top down, the second column from the right in the word search says, "I can help."

Further, none of the letters are used in multiple phrases, which is a common trait in those word searches where the left-over letters spell out the answer to some question. Since The Defect also mentioned staying observant, I tried running the left-over letters through the cypher breaker that Kender at IU found, but didn't turn anything up.

Finally, the words in the word search are (left to right, top to bottom): there, here, house, day, thanks, much, very, night.
