Just how long has this thing been running for? There are posts going back to last Aug?

The first announcement on the official site was made on the 24th February 2004. However, don't let this put you off, as its hasn't always been go go go - there were long periods of nothing. Sometimes verrrry long ones!

For more info about what has happened since, see the Wiki which is a great resource to find out almost anything!

Any more questions, just ask - we try to be a friendly bunch 'cos we were all new to this once! Most important feature though - Search!

Also, the first part of the game "project syzygy" was really just opening the rabbit hole to us, (i wasn't around way back when, but I've read up), not much happened except lots of people getting excited over not much Smile Oh, and the london meet up. In fact, not much has happened at all so far, excepting the 333 packs, london meet, and the newspapers/postcards etc...

/me is waiting for all hell to break loose Smile

also - yay! I'm in a sig! Very Happy

All you need to do for now is keep reading the Perplex City updates. The game hasn't really started yet, and won't do until the puzzle cards are released for sale at the beginning of June. The puzzle cards that have been released so far are pre-game prototypes, issued to the first 333 people to solve a puzzle a few weeks back.

I too watched The Culture Show and became mightily intrigued. Having spent the afternoon reading pages and pages on sites about this, Beasting, The Matrix, binary, decoding and, well everything else I could find, I have concluded that....... that I'm really quite confused.

This is all very new to me.
I get the horrible feeling I may never sleep again.

Another newbie here *waves*

After watching The Culture Show, and missing most of it before actually becoming interested. I have spent much more time than is healthy reading up on PPC.
Just a quick question... How fast is the Firebox website going to crash when those cards come on sale?! as for the 6 shops around the world. I suspect riots...

I'm hoping the Firebox servers will hold out, but the biggest problem will be how fast they can dispatch the orders?

They claim to dispatch orders placed before 4pm the same day, but there is an exclusion clause in the small print that says same-day-dispatch is not guaranteed during busy periods. I think the launch of the Perplex City cards will be VERY busy!

I'll probably choose the express delivery option to be on the safe side.

Compared with something like, ooh, Christmas, I'm sure they'll be just fine.

lol I guess I may be over estimating the popularity of Perplex City there then... Who knows, Christmas might become 'so last year' :-p

Just to be clear, I'm going a little tangential here:

Welcome all who came via the culture show bit! Unfiction and these forums (the unforums) welcomes you! Just a few points to be aware of here:

1) definitely look up Imbri's quickstart guide to ARGs (reload the page once or twice, and a link is bound to show up on the top-right hand of any page). It will give you a little heads-up as to what we try to accomplish around here with ARGs and all. (ARG=Alternate Reality Game, just in case ya didn't know)

2) specifically for Perplex City: The game has been hyped for over a year now, actually, starting with a "roundup" pre-game that was called "Project Syzygy". But the full-on, game seems to have just started less than a month ago, and while a lot of information is out there, there is not too much you can't catch up on by going to the main www.perplexcity.com site. Sente's Letter explains it all, in short. Come here and trawl through the posts in the General/Updates thread to get the minutae and catch up to current speculation (spec) and such. Puzzles and solves can be found in the Puzzles thread, and this space (you found correctly, good job!) is for Meta or completely out of game questions and stuff. This is a "trout-free zone" in this thread, meaning, no one will strike you down or smite you for asking a silly question (of which there are none, by the way), or say "ah- that has been asked before, so don't ask again". However, in other threads, and even this one, we humbly ask you try the "search" link first (top-right of every page), before asking specific questions, as your answer may already be out there. (In other threads, you may get trouted, which is our way of saying "unfortunately, the stuff you've written about has already been discussed, and you need to look there, but welcome to the club!" If you can't find your answer in search, post away! But don't worry about trout. Anyone who's posted more than 15 times has likely gotten one (or two), and it should be taken as a mark of honor, that you're getting in the nitty gritty, and that your question was not yours alone, but other posters thought about the same thing!

3) Um, I don't think there is a #3. You should find the forums filled with friendly people. We don't tolerate scum though, so if you're here to cause problems, and to try to humiliate or degrade other forum posters, this is not your place. You will be disciplined! Otherwise, again, welcome. If you have any problems, please PM (private message) any of the administrators or moderators (their name will say "moderator" or "site admin" or something near their screennames) or if you have general questions regarding the site itself, check out the lower portion of the index, under META. There are quite a few useful tidbits of info there for your consumption.

Happy playing to you all, and welcome!

P.S.- I am not a mod or an admin... just a dork who likes to help new people, like I was helped a while ago when I came aboard!

Pac Manhattan was in the Culture Show? That is awesome as I have been trying to work with the guys who created it to see if we can get some ARGFest PacManhattan action, although we could probable just make our own version....
