[SPEC] Perplex City a war torn state? So I'm doing another mass update of the wiki and changing some bits around etc and I came across a section that said Sente had been in charge of the Hollowview Intelligent Defense System.
Now why would Perplex City have a Defense System unless they had enemies which they were quite worried about. To get the best technological security company onto designing something like this they must have been fairly concerned.
The fact that they have a navy too suggests at least some sort of heighted security.
This seemed quite suprising to me because, maybe I'm just naive, but I automatically assumed that if they had all these puzzles and things and seem to culturally advanced that they would have grown past the shoot each other talk later scenarios.
Maybe the person who stole the cube is someone who got round the Hollowview Defense System and this is the security system which was by-passed during the theft?

Also, a headline on the Sentinel states:
"Courage Decommissioned"
Only war ships are decommissioned, So Perplex City has a Navy...

surely just because a nation chooses to be vigilant about security doesn't mean they're at war. It would indicate that there may be some sort of outside threat to be concerned about, certainly, but not a full blown war. I realise Sente and the sentinel can screen what we see about PC, but neither Scarlett or Violet have mentioned a war happening, it just seems to be a bit unlikely at the mo.
Could be wrong tho, I usually am!

I dont mean they are physically at war atm but it just caught my eye...also the advert in the Times said the people who stole the cube re-programmed part of the security system...if they used the system Sente developed he would sure know how to do that

would be far too late to think about building a navy after a war has started -- navies should be there to prevent a war from starting in the first place
tanner comes from a navy family and lives in a navy town

This could tie in with other bits and pieces...the reseeding of the reef, the novelty of the rainforest, there's hints of something post-war there. Perhaps biological? BC/AC, before and after Cataclysm?
Ignore last sentence...pure nonsense, as likely to be Before and after Cilla Black (which would make this 62 AC)

That might work, but wouldn't they say 'such and such is being done to restore PC...after the war' a lot more than they do? Seems a big thing to never mention by name

It is also possible that it is not a City defense system. Maybe it is a security system for the Academy or, more specifically, the cube. Maybe it is some kind of informational/IT defense--protecting against viruses or an intelligent system to help predict if a credit card (*ahem* key) is stolen and being used for fraudulent purposes. The page that mentions it is rather vague and even mentions corporate security in the preceding clause.
I am not denying this could be some Department of Defense project to thwart terrorists, purse snatchers, and cube thieves--just offering possible alternatives.

There is also the headline
"Halley Peace Accord Signed"
This at least refers to a potential conflict
