[SPEC] Hesketh Zeller's death,

Just pulling together some info from various places, it seems Zeller died while experimenting on the cube

From the Ac"History of the Academy" section on the acadamy website:

Quote:
Most schoolchildren know the story of Hesketh Zeller, if not for the vast strides he made in the pursuit of Cube knowledge then at the very least for the circumstances surrounding his noble death. One of the few Masters to continue active research while holding the position, he was certainly the first to pay the ultimate price for his work in the dangerous area of Cube studies

Compare with "About the Cube" from the PPCA site

Quote:
The more aggressive analysis of the Zeller Mastership proved largely counter-productive, and subsequent Masters have taken a less forceful passive approach.

And we're told elsewhere that he had an
Quote:
unrivaled appetite for research that at times (and ultimately) verged on the lethal

Further spec: I wonder if Fran Mendling was trying to experiment on the Cube in some way, and that's what caused the death. Maybe there's no murder and no real theft, only an accident.

What! Inncocent Fran Mendling? All alone on the night of the ball. All the whitecollar kids getting the good money while she works year after year with no reward! It's enough to make anyone bitter. But she was a novice. SHe knew enough to be dangerous. The cube was then transported to Earth killing Fran in the process? I've been thinking that too.

Useful, these bluecollar workers, I agree. So, could be a double whammy, then? Person/persons unknown gets the Cube 'activated' (whatever that might mean) whilst disposing of the agent of activation in one fell swoop?

Who better to orchestrate the downing of security than someone nominally in charge of it?

But Fran was persuaded how? Blackmail? A share in the profits? The ties of misguided love?
