For all of you begging for a screen capture, here you go. Already posted this elsewhere but I figure it makes sense to post here too. This was the clearest frame and was captured direct from my video using my TV card. As far as copyright goes, are the Beeb really gonna have a problem with this? C'mon - it's a single frame, mainly featuring someone else's artwork, and there's no profit being made. I can understand objections to posting the whole show here, but making a big deal over this would seem petty in the extreme - it's not like they're being deprived of any money or anything (hell, it might even help boost viewing figures for the show).

Anyway, here's the image:

good work seej :) i know the 'other ppl do it' argument doesnt hold too much weight, but there are websites i know that take over 1000 screen caps just for a 45min long episode of smallville, and dont get shouted at, and thats in america where copyright seems to be a much bigger issue than here. so im sure you (and unfiction) will be ok :)

on closer inspection i take back what i said about interlacing, can see the vertical lines now too. they look like they could be guide lines from adobe illustrator or something.

rach =)

Muchos Thank Yous!
I started the think the grid lines were the seams of the cards - but you're right they do look like gridlines.

An updated version of the map, with the photo of the programme in. The two nearest stations are now out of place a little, to allow for the graphics.

I'm not sure if that means that the stations are in the area covered, or that the scale of the images are too big. They are subway stations, (unlike Grand Frederick's station which is overground as well) so it is possible that we would not be able to see them.

We are definitely missing a lot of pieces. Looking at the cover of the Tour Guide (thanks DogsHead) if the scale was much bigger, we would be able to see Ascendancy Point on the left of the image. And we can't.

And again, thanks to BriEnigma for the new piece, which I have attached to one of the pieces from the tour guide.

It's a thing of beauty Mima...! Very Happy

Something struck me when I was looking at it though...where's the harbour? I've not found any mentions of one. It needn't necessarily have one, but I was thinking back to the mentions of the sub (and the sunken ship suggests that it was a harbour at some point...navy mentioned too)...hmmm. Neutral

It's clear that Alchemy Beach fronts a stretch of water, and this seems to run all the way down the coast to The Strip, which juts out into the water.

But I guess it does seem a little questionable as to how such a relatively meagre looking stretch could incorporate both a pristine beach and an extensive harbour (which presumably flows back into the sea).

On the other hand, if the placing of the 'Portside Docks' is accurate, then it sounds like the Harbour would belong to this region of the map.

It does appear (from what we've got) that the rest of the City is fairly built up, and it would seem that the sea coast is a clearly demarcated area to the south - east (although I suppose there might be other points of contact with the sea elsewhere).

The 'mystery', I guess, is whether anybody would choose to situate a harbour for docking and refitting defence subs anywhere near to a beach resort. It does sound a bit unusual. But it could be that our scale for the map is a bit out, and the distance between the two is greater than it might at first seem. It might also be that, if Perplex City is an unusually peaceable place, they think less of testing military vessels near to civilian resorts than, say, the US Navy would ???

I'll try to answer some of the questions!

1. The harbour is mentioned in the tour guide (2pm), and says that it is near Games Plaza. I have guessed that this is Portside docks.

2. Portside docks is from The Sentinel (More News in Brief, Arson Suspected in Deadly Fire). Putting it at the junction of the two differently angled shorelines is spec. I worked from the location of the river in the subway map, and the fact that most docks are located close to river mouths for efficient transport.

3. The shoreline is from the subway map where it is marked.

4. We have no way of knowing either the scale or if most of the locations are right. I have placed them as follows, but please let me know if I am wrong:
The Zeller Planetarium piece matches the road layout from the tour guide. We also know from the tour guide that this is north of Foreman Street. The pieces attached to this have been matched to road/building layout.
Ascendancy has been placed near the subway stop that bears its name. It couldn't be further south as it does not show the river.
The old town section was placed as a quick walk from Polygon South (tour guide), where Gatehouse 12 is the start of Academy tours. We know also that the Academy is North of Foreman Station and near Old Town (tour guide).
Key Square has been placed near the subway that bears its name.
Mobius Strip has been placed between the two Mobius subway stops.
    Games Plaza - see above.
Alchemy Bay is mentioned as beach so I have put the name near the beach piece, which is angled the same as the shoreline.

At the moment I don't know where the other pieces fit, if anyone can match them, or guess at a position, I'll put them in.

Superb Mima! There's evidence that the entire cover of the tour guide is Northof the Mazy river. I see a large open area in the bottom left of DogHead's pic. I think Polygon Park and the Great Lawn might be together since they are open areas . . . but the circular building sets seem similar too.

I can see the Games Plaze building being the same size and adjacent to those in the Alchemy Bay area as well.

Superb Smile

I see it all much more clearly now, thanks.

But you're quite right in regard to shorelines - the Underground Map seems to be pretty unambiguous about where the waters run in to meet the city - in fact, on shape alone, the line that the river takes beyond the centre of town looks pretty harbour/bay like altogether...

So, I would assume that the harbour is approximately where you've guessed it would be...

It might be the scale that remains in question (though we've discussed that already as well)...

I couldn't see the river anywhere on the front page of the tour guide, and Key Square is def. north of the river, so I would totally agree.

At a guess I would say that Polygon Park is the open area at the bottom left of the Tour Guide (between Polygon North & Polygon South) on the subway map and north of the river. The Great Lawn is definitely south of the river as it is part of the Academy grounds (all refs place this south).

Not sure what you were suggesting with the piece you attached? Do you know what it is?

At first I thought we would be able to place sections just on colour, but if you look at the big area we have around Meadow Road/Lang stadium, almost all building types are there.

(Games Plaza is big just because we have the space!!)

The attached pic . . . I thought it could fit in the space depicted in the lower left of the tour guide cover. It must be Polygon Park (on the cover) - so the piece I attached is either there, or (as you corrected me) a part of the Great Lawn and South of the river.
