[PUZZLE] VKOC Forthcoming Login

Since xnbomb so beautifully solved the wordsearches - no need to clutter up that thread with our guesses about the password. Feel free to do it here instead. Very Happy

The URLs:

Relating this to the previous puzzles we solved for domains, maybe there's a train of thought here, I just can't catch it..

The old ones:
naoko - naoko - beloved --> my wife
digital imagination - fun with peers - conspiratoria --> memory effect
van gogh - masters of art - artistry --> potato eaters

Now:
forthcoming - the_future - finish it! --> ?????

I tried things like "Nisha Chronicles" since it's forthcoming.. or "Game Over" since it's finished.. various ideas using the clues didn't work..

My thoughts were that it was somehow linked to nisha.

nisha tatum
nisha roberts
nisha naoko
naoko nisha
nisha wife
nisha chronicles
tatum think
i win
the puzzle
the game

none of those worked...

KMS has found another passworded directory. It may or may not be the same login (it doesn't forward to /the_future/ but it does have the Finish It! message). Makes you wonder if there are any more secrets hidden on VKOC.

Virgil's most recent rant (4 days ago) is titled "A perplexing future". Not sure if that helps or not.

A phrase we yell a lot around the various companies I have worked at when we get near the retail date of a project is,

"SHIP IT!"

That didn't work with any of them.

Other possibilities:
Gold Master
Gone Gold
Release Date
Final Revision

paths

Question: the word search definitely led to Forthcoming

so why isn't that on the path

Van Gogh ->potato eaters->pictures from MMA ->forthcoming?

Or something close to that?

And what does it mean when you get to the forthcoming -> the future -> finish it from the nisha page as well?

I guess I don't understand how the paths and directories work.

---
and just to point out the obvious, this all started with the 2004 game called Unfinished

so the finish it probably refers to the unfinished game, which started with Van Gogh, Naoko and, digital imagination

What's in the case?

A little warning/reminder for those who (like myself) are trying passwords: The passworded logins on www.virgilkingofcode.com are case sensitive. To prove this to yourself, try some of the other logins we have found (Ehsan lists them above) with other cases (all caps, capitalized etc.) ... they don't work. The pattern so far has been for these to be all lowercase, so I think that would be the safest thing to use here.

Just FYI :in the unfinished gameography, I tried Nisha as a word in the spaces next to the little flower game and it doesn't lead anywhere.

Maybe the Nisha -> finish it
was an addition when we were obliviously missing the little box added to the Van Gogh page? (which took us to the paintings and then the wordsearch and then to forthcoming -> finish it?)

I downloaded and decompiled the unfinished game (flower.swf) again yesterday, and it still only had the 3 "answers/url's" that we found to begin with. I'll attach the flash file incase anyone else wants to have a look.

Do you mean for the labeling conventions between the {}s?

Quote:
Location: This is most important for the SD card files since by now it's very easy to get confused. <snip>
* For other puzzles, if the title is descriptive enough, a location might not be needed. If it could be confused as an SD puzzle though, it should be labeled (ie the worry puzzles)

The reason I didn't put "Van Gogh ->potato eaters->pictures from MMA ->forthcoming?" in the title is because that's not the location of the puzzle, more like the progression. Someone wanting to solve the login only needs to go to www.virgilkingofcode.com/forthcoming to actually start working on it. Likewise if someone wants to tackle the thingstodo.zip, they would have to go to the docs folder of the third SD card.

I guess I could reword the thread name to "[PUZZLE] Login {VKOC/forthcoming/}" if people are confused to where this is located, but with more directories being found, it might almost be better just to put "[PUZZLE] Finish It! Logins {VKOC}" for the title. Right now, I'm waiting to see if there are multiple solutions, because they all could end up using the same password.

As stated by xnbomb:
xnbomb wrote:
By entering the url http://www.virgilkingofcode.com/forthcoming, you automatically get forwarded to http://www.virgilkingofcode.com/the_future, which seems to reside in a domain entitled "Finish It!", and requires a username and password.

That is, when you go to the forthcoming directory, you get a password box that states: Enter username and password for "Finish It!" at http://www.virgilkingofcode.com If you hit cancel, you'll get a 401 page - but the url is now http://www.virgilkingofcode.com/the_future/ However, if you go to any of the other directories (nisha - emile - hideko), you get the same password prompt, (Enter username and password for "Finish It!" at http://www.virgilkingofcode.com) but when you hit cancel you are not taken to the /the_future/ directory (at least I wasn't).

finish It!

I didn't mean the labeling convention .. I think that is very clear and helpful!

I meant are all of these points we are getting the Finish it! login in from leading to the same place. Is the Finish It being threaded into by all these different pages?

So that wherever we happened to find it say from emile or nisha, the login/password answer would be the same?

Does that make sense?

If so, these poor PMs must have been ripping their hair out waiting for someone to just try one of these words.

Finish It! would probably be the domain that points to the set of user names and passwords to use. I wouldn't beleive that all of these use the same username/password.

Sorry for misunderstanding rose Very Happy

I haven't decided if the passwords will all be the same or not. Of course, once we get a password, it'll be easy to test.

Of course, in light of Virgil's new rant, it seems we might still be missing something vital anyway. The bastard.
