wow well thats a bit of a bummer . ive been getting so excited the past couple days and thought that world oyster was really nice, just proves that people on the net are sometimes not who you think they might be... so where does this take us if there anything for us to do now or just a big dead end??

just a thought but i noticed that some people where saying that they are trying to email Gertrude to ask what is going on but on the offical site (the one with sound clip) says that it isnt Gretrude so do we know any other emails?? i just thought id point it out and u clever people can decide what to do


omg just thought i could be that nacromancer guy <sp? sounds creepy enuff (i know her/his voice is digusted ... or is it we have been decived already) since we have found the pictures at the same time... maybe am just getting tried and my mind is running away from me. i also noticed that one of world oysters was talking about emailing the guy who made the movie?! maybe this could be our lead but as i said ill leave it up to the more experienced players oh dear i forgot ITS NOT A GAME ITS MORE THAN THAT

I seem to be the only one thinking this here, but don't you guys think you're jumping the gun a bit accussing worldoyster so quickly? Remember, we all voted worldoyster could be trusted

The whole connection to the nintium account thing, I don't understand, but although I'm fairly new to ARG's, I've noticed it's not uncommon for players to be given an IG part by the PMs, a big sign of this is having a conversation with an IG character and not be able to repeat some things they said, which is exactly what Julie did. How do we know the phone conversation didn't go more like:

Julie: Uh, hello?
PMs: LOL!!!! KK hi2u! guess wut u gotz to totally pretend we are going to meet up tonight, and then stop posting, cuz we like will pretend you got kidnapped FOR REAL! LOLOLOL. ANd for doing this you win a l33t poster. K?
Julie: kk.
PMs: kthnxbye!

Anyway...the point is, instead of complaining how sloppily put together this ARG is or how the PMs suck for posting, we should get going again. What information do we have to go on? We don't really have any trustworthy IG contacts that are still active. This maybe a time to do deeper research and see if we can find more pages of the document ourselves. Just an idea, anyone else that has any, feel free to post

i think the thing most of us are more annoyed at is the fact this forum is out of game, and the pms arent respecting that. if julie has been "kidnapped", the fact that another clue was posted from the same ip address means most likely this has been planned for a while, and to me it feels a bit different if she registed just to play as an ig character, then if she was an actual arg-er who was later recruited to liven up the arg (which im not too sure is actually allowed anyway??). the latter would have been better, but it doesnt really feel that this is how it is, to me.

I've never destegged anything before, so I may be doing it incorrectly, but I ran stegdetect on each of the dread pics and it came up negative except for one, but the odd thing is the one that came up positive is actually the thumbnail from the dread site named unholysecretpic1small.jpg. Since its a thumbnail, I kind of think its a false positive result, but I'm running a crack program with a huge wordlist to try and find the pw. I'll let you know if I find anything.

I agree that although it's a bit annoying that the PMs have decided to break the rules of the forum, we just need to mourn Julie (sockpuppet memorial service anyone?) and carry on.

We do need to find out who we've been emailing under the guise of Gertrude.

I think the lesson to learn from this is extra vigilance when new players come and throw themselves into the game - and I know how awful that sounds, not trusting anyone new to the game, but if we can learn to recognise potential IG characters as soon as possible, we can give them the Hope/Jordan treatment, because it saps all the fun out of it when all the info and clues are coming exclusively through the forum. I for one would have been quite impressed with the kidnapping-Julie plot if we'd been introduced to her outside the forum, but it's irritating to hear them blethering on about 'this is not a game' then blatantly acknowledging that it is by coming on here and talking game tactics with us. Boo.

But I agree, we shouldn't let this put us off - to me, 'stop digging' is a veritable invitation to start digging harder, so let's keep it up.

In hindsight, I think we needed to take the question of how Gertrude was contacting us more seriously. We knew full well she probably didn't have internet access, yet we still bit when this faker contacted us online. But as I said earlier, none of us are foolish enough to let ourselves be tricked twice.

On that note, let's get back to work. At this point, we're back to the point of trying to contact the real Gertrude (if she isn't already dead). Any ideas?

I think we should reconsider the ham radio idea, considering all the references to radio communication in Martha's April 11 email. I still think the "shack in hell with only a TV and a radio" is a reference to a ham radio shack.

WEBtv allows you to use your television to hook up to the internet. It comes with a little modem that you attach to your tv. I can't imagine Gertrude having it though, considering it'd be difficult to order one without a phone.

There was aome discussion of whether Gertrude could have found a way to relay emails from her radio, which could be an explanation for her strange, repetative style. Could just be craziness though.
