[SPEC] Wherein Captain Obvious talks about the Uffizi heist.

I'm just going to put this out there.

It seems to me that the insidiousness of the proposed art theft lies in the fact that if carried out as planned, it would go completely undetected.

The scenario seems very similar to the one perpetuated in the movie "The Ladykillers"

Here's my take:
Make top quality forgeries of the target pieces.
Rent the space adjacent to the target location.
Tunnel in.
Replace the originals with the forgeries.
Back out.
Conceal all evidence of break-in
No one is the wiser.

Perhaps we could talk Uffizi into getting motion sensors and audio detecters placed everywhere in and under Uffizi... Laughing

tunneling

I may be wrong, but I don't see tunneling being so undetectable, particularly in the crowded city of Florence.

Also, how does one emerge from the tunnel without being seen by guards, motion sensors, etc? I supposed all the security would be turned off, or they would have inside guys, or they would kill or remove the security guards somehow?

I do know that I read about tunneling being used in a theft from a museum in Florida. I will try to find it later.

Check the first picture in this thread. There is a gap between when the motion sensors are turned off and the first guard arrives, which is presumably when they are going to do the job.

[EDIT] One more thing - surely Gunter and his team of crooks are not going to be going ahead with this heist any more, since so much of it has been exposed. Which beggers the question: why are we still looking for SD cards? What more are they going to reveal? Or was there never meant to be a heist - the whole thing just an elaborate plan by Virgil to win him Nisha...?

Or did it already happen and they got away with it because the forgers did good work. And we need to prove the art was stolen and turn nisha loose on an old skool LRR retreival.
