[UPDATE] May 31

Apparently Nisha has only had three responses to her Chicago ads. She's looking for more retrievers.

Well, I hope i'm being counted among those three!

I've emailed Nisha asking if she'd be interested in help from those who haven't been following her situation.

I've got a few friends who I'm sure would do whatever was necessary for a free Treo, but I didn't want to suggest people who haven't been following the game get involved just for the possible chance at free swag. That just doesn't seem right.

Yeah, me too. I replied and hopefully will get accepted. When I told the hubbie about it he wanted to sign up too, but it didn't seem right to me considering

A) he's never played an ARG
B) we would get two swag items

I guess I'm the third.

I agree with you about inviting others in. I think people need to have some time invested in the ARG. Otherwise they may not take the mission seriously enough.

Well I think that the idea is you get your friends who are not following Hiest now interested in the story as well as the shwag. Meeting Nisha and pulling off a hiest on top of it may well get them interested.

Isn't that the point of a "marketing" ARG?

Good point I suppose.. I've mentioned the whole ARG thing in general terms to a few people, and most are reluctant. I think the main issue is that they just don't understand what it is, or don't feel they have the time to participate. At any rate I'm trying to avoid the 'hey, check this out -- free treo!' line of recruitment. That just doesn't seem benficial to Heist, Audi, or the ARG community in general.

I think starting in the middle of a game may put people off participating.

So where do you think we are going if we get picked?

My guess is the Q101 block party Saturday night. Too bad it isn't Friday, the music lineup is better.

Man, I hope not.. the lineup is unimpressive at best. Audi isn't listed as a sponsor or anything, but I'm unaware of any audi-affiliated events this weekend.

Kraftwerk is playing on Saturday at the Riv. If they got us into that show I'd just die. Course, there's really no way to get a car into the RIV, but a guy can hope.. heh

Kraftwerk is kind of fitting for a meeting with Gunther.

This doesn't appear to be a "break in the car" mission, so Audi sponsorship may not be necessary.

That does kind of fit now that you mention it. Hadn't occured to me before. I've been trying to find a way into that show for a while now, so I would be totally psyched if that's what it is!

I have sent an e-mail asking if they still need assistance, since the Monster listing is no longer there.

Perhaps I will get a reply! And maybe Varin can help me get up to speed. Smile

Also, I think it's OK to bring in additional people who haven't been playing the game, as long as you think they'd be people who would enjoy this sort of event, and could brief themselves fairly quickly on the basic premise.

Like others here have said, it's a marketing tool, and telling your friends is a big part of it, and yeah, the swag is definitely a carrot on a stick.

Now, I just sent a very basic, polite e-mail to the one listed at the site you linked there, Varin. The Monster listing was not there any more -- is this sufficient?
