[Xbox]Advent Rising Anyone planning to get this one?
I've read about this game some time ago, but I'm not a follower or anything like it. It always seemed like an interesting game, with a very good story. IGN has their review up and it seems a positive review. They complain about the frame rate, but at the majesco forums, the devs mentioned that the retail copies shouldn't suffer as much. I'll give it a rent sometime this month. I'm pretty curious to see the story! It's been a while I don't get a good story out of a game ...

I've been intrigued as well, especially once I heard Orson Scott Card was involved in the story.
I read a free 'preview' comic book a couple months back. I don't remember too much, but the story seemed at least decent.
Haven't read any reviews yet, but if the story gets good mentions I'll give it a try.

There was also a mention in the last OXM that there would be prizes associated with the game. If I remember correctly during the first little while the game is out, a small icon will be placed somewhere in the game (and change locations every week as updated by Live), and if you find it and report it you are entered to win $ (lots if I remember correctly).
... yep here we go:

MAJESCO ENTERTAINMENT ANNOUNCES MILLION DOLLAR PROMOTION WITH XBOX LIVE FOR 'ADVENT RISING'
'Race to Save Humanity' Million Dollar Play and Win Contest Kicks Off June 9; Available For First 500,000 Copies of Xbox Version
and linky
and more explanation
Quote:
$1,000,000 – And How to Get It
The contest commences June 9, a week after the launch of Advent Rising and is limited to the first 500,000 copies of the game. Consumers who purchase specially marked packages of Advent Rising will receive a free, two-month subscription to Xbox Live. Then, once a week for six weeks, an "Easter egg" in the form of the letter 'A' will be downloaded via Xbox Live and hidden within a level of the game. Majesco will distribute clues as to which level the icon resides in and then the race is on.
Once the egg is found, consumers will be given a code and prompted to log into the contest website using their Xbox Live Gamer Tag. The first person to do so is that week's winner. The contest is open only to US and Canadian residents (void in MD, VT and in Quebec) who are 13 years or older. The contest ends August 15. Complete contest rules can be found online at www.adventtrilogy.com beginning May 31.
Hundreds of Weekly Prizes
Over the course of six weeks, players can also compete for cash and prizes, with one Grand Prize winner receiving $1,000,000. Hundreds of great prizes include:
Six weeks of cash prizes totaling $10k, $20k, $30k, $40k, $50k, and the Grand Prize of $1,000,000;
-12-month Xbox Live subscription cards from Microsoft;
-SoBe refrigerator and a one-year supply of SoBe drinks;
-SoBe guitars, golf bags, MP3 players, and more;
-Advent Rising strategy guides from Brady Games;
-Officially licensed Xbox controllers from Radica.

In otherwords, those of us with actual lives (and jobs, etc.) have no hope of winning anything here...

Hey, we all managed to play ILB somehow, didn't we?

Yeah, but that was different. In ILB, we were all workign together, and it didn't depend on being first in line for the download, and then have enough spare time to search every level as quickly as possible. I know I don't have enough time to do that, and I'm willing to guess that I have a bit more free time that people with families and the like.
If it was a co-op team based competition, I'm sure we'd blow away everyone else.. but since it's a "first to find" competition, those without time to search are at a disadvantage.
It's just sorta frustrating, but I'm not sure I'll be getting the game anyway, so it's not like it matters hugely.

They were having this big two-for-a-dollar sale over at the dollar store in Springfield, IL, but those bastards forgot that I have a clown car Geo, only meant for short distance city driving ...
I was really looking forward to getting some new cabbage rose dishes and some snowglobes for all 50 states, too.

I will definitely get this game, but I think I'm gonna wait for the PC version to be released in a month or so.
Edit: Just read the article waters linked. My heart is a flutter with juicy single player story goodness!

I keep seeing video of this game; am I the only one that thinks, for the most part, that it's cosmetically horrid?

I saw a commercial for it that showed one of the alien space ships and thought it was a new Halo game. Damn near jumped off of the couch. :/

Looks to me like the same graphic stle has Beyond Good & Evil. Which makes me sad, because I know it's not related to that game in any way.

What videos I saw in the past were pretty enough.
Besides that, I would take an ugly, innovative, well-written, fun game over a pretty but poorly executed game any day.

Gamespot has their review up . Ouch! They don't seem to like the game at all. I didn't see anything good they had to say about the game. The story and dialogues are supposed to be the big points of the game, and even that is bashed to death! Not that I trust them 100%, but still disappointing ...
