A plan

Long discussions with Kurt about the ancient key systems at the Recon Compund have resulted in... well, a lot of nervous foot-shuffling from Kurt about the legality or otherwise of what we want to do. But yes, he thinks he can do it. And I just so don't think they'd ever prosecute us. All we want to do is take a look around and, if we come up with something deeply worrying, we'll hand it right over to the authorities, so we're fundamentally in the clear.
Now, according to Kurt the files would be quite easy to get into if we got hold of one of their keys. Physically. Which, er, presents one or two additional problems. Firstly: the glass room they're kept in. I don't think this is too much of a problem; they have prayers about eight times a day and I reckon I can slip away while they're all in the prayer hall. Secondly: the fact that they'd surely notice one of only six or seven keys going missing. Which, again, is not so much of a problem because Kurt has a couple of the same models as them (which he has pointed out are not literally prehistoric, but just about 40 years old) so I could do a swap with one of his collection and they wouldn't be likely to notice for a while. And thirdly: the lock on the door of the key room. My guide pointed it out as we went past. A really old fashioned puzzle-lock, with a keyboard for inputting a word and some text above as a riddle. Apparently it's supposed to give room for a few minutes reflection on "the words of Gyvann" before attempting to contact the outside world. I copied it down, but can't seem to get anywhere with it (I think my knowledge of ancient belief systems isn't quite up to the job...). I'm a bit concerned - if I don't solve it within the next few days they'll probably change the riddle and then I'll have to start all over again. Anyway, here it is:
"My children, it is only that which is absent which must be sought."
Sayings of Gyvann
shake
face
eye
work
length
head
fly
So if anyone else has a clue, please let me know....

Ok so here we go first puzzle for a while (at long last - am I the only one going slightly mad from all the waiting)...so all your clever bods what's yer take on this one then? Is it one of those riddles where you put an additional word in front or behind of the exisiting words...is there any sort of engine which does that for us?
edit - Sorry I've had another look at it and it seems it wants us to find out what is missing either in the words or the group of words...do the words make any sort of group to anyone...see I told you I was dense!

well except "length", they are all nouns and verbs (each word)
but as for what is missing; could it be a prefix/suffix?

Initial thoughts are that the word after attaches to the word before.....for example..
eye [patch]
[patch] work

Possible solution: Those words contain the vowels a, e, o, and y, but not u or i. she might need to load up a particular user interface that only the Recons use in order to actually read the files.

Before we all start solving I've started a thread in Puzzles.
Interesting to note head, face, eye progression...
We can still keep this thread for possible discussion of Violet in general, though...

Keeping puzzle solving to puzzles, yesterdays spec about prehistoric keys can now be thrown out the window Seems she was just exagerating.

Not prehistoric, but compared to earth technology it's pretty advanced if they had a personal device like a key 40 years ago. Could these be wired keys, hence why they can't leave the special room they're kept in? That would put them a bit more on a par with our phone technology of the time.

Didn't look like they were wired since she said she could just take one and swap it with one that looks alike.

I could do the same with a wired phone, just by unplugging it from the wall and plugging in the replacement, but you're probably right.

One thing that strikes me is that since Violet is being so explicit about how she's infiltrating the Recons, they probably have no access to her blog.
Does this mean that they can't access anything published on earth? Or does it mean that the blog is only being published on earth? Or - if it is available in PPC - is she just gambling that they don't read her blog?

My bet is that it's only available on Earth. I doubt PPC has full access to the Earth internet...so that probably means the Recons can't read what she posts.

I think you're right. But I still feel it's a bit risky. It's pretty likely that they could get access to Earth Internet sites if they wanted - not only Sente and his daughters, but PPC Sentinel and several companies already have websites. So it seems like it isn't a strictly controlled thing. I am worried that she might get caught.

Oh noes!
It's the reconstructionists, they've locked themselves out of their key-room and replaced Violet with a clone and are using the clone to get us to solve their puzzles for them!
Oh noes!
