[SOLVED] Quirky Acuity - Sayings of Gyvann

First noted here - brought here for puzzle discussion!

Quote:
Apparently it's supposed to give room for a few minutes reflection on "the words of Gyvann" before attempting to contact the outside world. I copied it down, but can't seem to get anywhere with it (I think my knowledge of ancient belief systems isn't quite up to the job...). I'm a bit concerned - if I don't solve it within the next few days they'll probably change the riddle and then I'll have to start all over again. Anyway, here it is:

"My children, it is only that which is absent which must be sought."
Sayings of Gyvann

shake
face
eye
work
length
head
fly

So if anyone else has a clue, please let me know....

Edited multiple times to change solve status!

We need to focus on the message beforehand as well
Quote:
"My children, it is only that which is absent which must be sought."
Sayings of Gyvann

It could be about the compound or recon way of life, or even the cube!

Well, seems like we have to find missing words associated with each of the words given.

Quote:
it is only that which is absent which must be sought

This quote leads me to believe that we should add a suffix/prefix to each of the words given to form new words, and perhaps the first letter of each of those will form the password. That's how I see it, and that's what I'll try to do. The words seem kind of limited to what you can put in front/after, so it shouldn't be too hard...

That's my guess, if someone has another take on this puzzle let us know ^_^

The words number of letters:
Quote:
shake
face
eye
work
length
head
fly

go 5, 4, 3, 4, 5, 4, 3

if it is a word at the end then it probably has 4 letters

re posted from previous thread....
Ok so here we go first puzzle for a while (at long last - am I the only one going slightly mad from all the waiting)...so all your clever bods what's yer take on this one then? Is it one of those riddles where you put an additional word in front or behind of the exisiting words...is there any sort of engine which does that for us?

edit - Sorry I've had another look at it and it seems it wants us to find out what is missing either in the words or the group of words...do the words make any sort of group to anyone...see I told you I was dense!
same thoughts as Zedix

also all monosyllabic words

some can be made into new words with the addition of letters: i.e. eye -> eyelet, face -> facet

Thing is, I don't think that'd work for "fly", conisering it's an irregular verb (unless you're talking about bugs) . . .

Wait a minute. Bugs. Perhaps something to do with covert surveillance equipment (also known as "bugs")?

Disregard previous, I just noticed a pattern in the word lengths.

Quote:
5,4,3,4,6,4,3

I think the solution is either:

A) two more words, one four letters long and the other five letters long, that relate to the prefiously mnetioned words, or . . .

B) the pattern, if completed, would form a palindrome (543464345) - and perhaps that's the password: "palindrome".

Did a bit of research and found a couple suffix prefix that could work. Started noticing a trend, but at the last word it broke >_< anyways, maybe it can help other people so I'll post a couple words:

head, hand, milk - shake -
straight, poker, bold - face - plate, off, cloth, lift, value
shut, glass, black - eye - glass, sore, patch, lid, ball, candy
field, school, brain, clock, team, patch - work - out, bench, day, force
arm's, wave - length -
over, fore - head - band, board, lamp, phone
fire, dragon, butter - fly

The thrend I hate noticed is if you look at each word, you can relate a body part... They say only look at what's missing, so if you take the missing words so that each word would have a body part... it would go as follows:
head(shake), face, eye, brain(work), arm's (length), head, ... and I couldn't find anything for fly. Anyways yeah, just a list of words mostly if you want to use them with your own theory.

I'm no good at this prefix, suffix stuff but there seems to be something in the patch - work, work-out part (or maybe I'm going mad) just seems to fit having the words work out in a puzzle Confused

I was just looking at the riddle again, and I think that the formatting of the words is important somehow, normally, they would just be written horizontally in a line, not vertically, is there a shape or wordsearch type thing there?

I always feel like I'm over thinking things when I see a puzzle like this.

Quote:
My children, it is only that which is absent which must be sought

It is only that which is absent which must be sought. Are we missing a "that" somewhere in the word list?

Maybe this brainfart will help someone.

Has any one noticed that eye and fly rhyme? it makes it sound like a poem

I like the pattern idea best, but there just doesn't seem to be one.
perhaps we should take up violets spec and search ancient religons for the significance of these words. Of course, she was probably talking about Pxc religions.

and as for catergories, work can be a unit of measurement, like length, and face can be a verb as in "face me"

So far, we seem to have 2 possible solution. One would involve finding missing suffix/prefix, and that those would somehow form the passcode, and the other being we need the find the next word that follows, kinda like a mathematical suite. Further along that line, the word needing to be found could have a defined length based on numerical patterns of the words we already have.

Out of curiosity and somewhat unrelated, I wonder how we're supposed to get the answer to her. What if we can't agree on an answer and she gets 2-3 different words from us... She'll enter the wrong passcode and screw up the mission ? Razz

Could the Recons be talking about the cube and poking fun at the academy. If so then the answer would be cube. This also fits the 5, 4, 3 ... pattern.

Quote:
shake
face
eye
work
length
head
fly

could the words match up (like shake + head), with the one left over matching up to a missing word to fit a pattern?
