New chat channel

Intro to the Preface: If you don't know anything about the politics in the genre or the IU/UF divide, please, click your back button and erase this post from your memory – there's nothing to see here!

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
To preface this, I would like to say a few things. 1. The ideas presented below are not, repeat, not meant to slam, or steal from, either side of the UF/IU divide. 2. This has nothing but good intentions behind it. 3. Though I am indeed better known on the IU boards and chat than at UF, don't take that to mean anything at all. I have declared myself nonpartisan, in a way.

Now, on to business.

This post is to announce the formal formation of #rgo, a channel on Chat-Sol dedicated to Alternate Reality Gaming without the politics that appear to be nearly intrinsic at this point in both #metaunlimited and #unfiction.

As the topic of the channel states, #rgo is the 'DMZ' of the ARG genre. If you wish to talk ARG theory or just nonsense, it's all good. That being said, there are just a few ground rules to #rgo.

1. Check your grudges at the /join. If you want to have an argument as to why Unfiction is so much better than IU or vice versa, that's fine – I may even have a couple arguments of that nature myself. However, it has no place in #rgo.
2. Posting links to either forum are not only allowed, they are encouraged. If you've seen good info about an ARG, a good debate on ARG theory, etc, please do share with us. If it's a link to an ongoing argument as outlined in 1, please feel free to share your opinion – on the boards, not in #rgo.
3. #rgo is rated M for Mature – if you have a problem with profanity, then most likely you will not like #rgo Wink That being said, just have a good time and try not to get too caught up in drama. I would say that #rgo is a drama-free environment, but there is no such place that I have found in any online community that doesn't have drama. That being said, try to be mature, try not to take everything so seriously, and just relax.

If you like ARGs and you like sharing info about ARGs, or if you just want to get away from the drama and politics for a bit, join #rgo. We just want to have fun and play games, for pete's sake.

If you have any questions about #rgo or if I said something wrong, feel free to reply (I wouldn't doubt there being something wrong with this post to someone, it's 1am). I'll do my best to answer (or come up with an answer, as the case may be) any questions that you pose.

Postscript: If you don't know anything about the politics in the genre or the IU/UF divide, please, click your back button and erase this post from your memory – there's nothing to see here!

The divide you talk about was created by Nash Carey, and backed up by a
select group of people at IU. Unfiction and its members have no
animosity towards IU in its role as another ARG board, nor are they
threatened in any way by the "competition".

What *has* caused the problem, however, is the way that Nash has tried
to carve out his own little slice of the pie through lies,
accusations, public dirty-laundry-washing and a large amount of ego
flexing. He somehow managed to drag a number of people with him on
this little journey, telling them how evil the people at UF were, how
the moderators won't support him and his games, and in several cases,
public and private defamation of character of various admins and
moderators. His behaviour has been at best pathetic, and at worst
totally unacceptable.

It is for these reasons only that relations from UF to IU are somewhat sour.

However, saying that, the majority of people at IU are above such
childishness, and freely post and chat here and at #unfiction and are
treated with the same warmth, friendlyness and helpfulness as any other
UFer, which makes me feel that your new chat room could be somewhat
redundant.

Hey, whenever I go into #unfiction, it's strippers, candy, and Ozy eating nachos. Sexily. And then running away.

Are you sure you're on the right server?

Cos I know I am.

That is only because IU will not let me HAVE any nachos in their chatrooms anymore, ever since the infamous Industrial Jalapeno Incident Of Ought-Four.

Those of us in the "George Lucas Killed my Childhood" camp would kindly ask you to refrain from quoting non-canon material. Please use only approved Episode 4-6 quotes from now on. Any mention of imaginary characters such as JarJar, Count Dookie, or Young Anakin will be met with stern denunciations. And it will all be your fault.

Thank you for your cooperation.

And Han shot first. That is all.
