Okay, so based on the references in The Sentinel: "buy a vowel" referring to Wheel of Fortune, a word/letter game and "one thing leads to another," I decided to see what happens when I take one letter from each word, starting with "shake" and continuing down to "fly." I decided to take them in order, top-to-bottom, rather than messing with the zillions of permutations anagramming would get.

After a while, I gave up and told the computer to do it for me (C source code attached for those interested). I came pretty close to a couple of potential matches, but nothing that quite worked out to a definite "a-ha!" For instance, KEY???? (I was hoping for keyword, but we don't have the "ord" from the last three words). Similarly, "SAY????"

What really caused my heart to skip a beat was when I got down to "SEEK???," which would tie in with the "must be sought" clue pretty well, but could not get anything that seemed to sound right from the letters of those last three words.

As Violet says in her June 3rd blog entry, we have overlooked the solution, it is a simple puzzle and we are reading too much into it.

It means a mesh of interconnecting things.

Does anyone have the full Oxford English dictionary?

It is not on Merriam-Webster or dictionary.com. You get just about as many answers on Google for "mazework," which also does not appear on either of the dictionary sites.

I have the complete Oxford Dictionary Of English (2004 edition) I'll just go and check it.

Just sent Violet a message suggesting that the answer is the word
Quote:
that
as it says
Quote:
It is only "THAT" which is absent that must be sought"
That is the only missing word that must be found.
Seems too simple I know, but VIolet said that we were reading too much into the puzzle in her blog on the 3rd.

I know this is useless, but I can't stop associating "Absent" with "Absalom & Tavent.", which leaves me ALOMTAV, which then leads me to MOLATAV, as in an alternatively spelled cocktail. Which is what rebellious sorts like the Recons might be tempted to use to simply break the glass and gain access to the damn keys when they can't figure out what Gyvann's latest puzzle means.

"A few moments of reflection . . ." - my arse!

Similarly I can't stop associating

as in: this puzzle is a damn joke. There is not solution. It is just to keep us busy. I might just set fire to MInd Candy's offices. And Lock them in. And watch them burn. And Laugh. Mwa ha ha ha ha.

Woah, total Red Dwarf flashbacks there. Fish was the answer Rimmer wrote to every question on his officer's exam before doing his salute and passing out. You think Violet is up for a bit of visual comedy?

Ok, we all want set fire to a recons robe about now, but I think thy still wont give us the damn answer.

I'll call 'Scribe 12' together and see if we can get something.

Fish sounds the best we have got so far (better than my vowl confusion suggestion) but I think there is something MUCH simpler to it. So as a random guess i'll say the answers 'body' as it follows on with the bady parts idea.
(eye is on the face. Face is on the Head. Head is on the body. It wrong but im stumped)

Ive also had a look on the effect the letters have on a keyboard (stressed by Violet) layout, but no luck. A * replaces a letter in the word list.

Q*****UI*P
******J**
ZX*VB*M

Heres it reversed:

*WERTY**O*
ASDFGH*KL
**C**N*

Violet has declared "Archer" to be her solution on QA.. So just ignoring the incongruity of "spider-work" then I guess Smile
