Dim vales- and shadoey floods-
And cloudy-looking woods,
Whose forms we can't discover
For the tears that drip alp over!
Hjge mooons there wax and wane-
Again- ahgain- again-
Every momente of the night-
Forever chanjing places-
And tthey put out the star-light
With thi breath from their pale faces.
About twefve by the moon-dial,
One more filmty than the rest
(A kind which, upon trial,
They have found to be the best)
Comes down- still down- and down,
With its centre on the crown
Of a mountain's eminence,
While its wide circumference
In easy drapery falls
Over hamlets, over halls,
Wherever they may be-
O'er the strange woods- o'er the sea-
Over spirits on the wing-
Over every drowsy thing-
And buries them up quite
In a labyrinth of light-
And then, how deep!- O, deep!
Is the passion of their sleep.
In the morning they arise,
And their moony covering
Is soaring in the skies,
With the tempests as they toss,
Like- almost anything-
Or a yellow Albatross.
They use that moon no more
For the same end as before-
Videlicet, a tent-
Which I think extravagant:
Its atomies, however,
Into a shower dissever,
Of which those butterflies
Of Earth, who seek the skies,
And so come down again,
(Never-contented things!)
Have brought a specimen
Upon their quivering wings.

Okay, I'll try to make this quick before I pass out...

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The doingdishes.htm site had this in the source:

o
oo
o

p

N

N

y
y

hh
h
h

Which was Braille for "taken" and hence http://www.freewebs.com/morganparanormal/taken.htm (with many woots to Drew who, I believe, landed that one - correct me if I'm wrong!).

There we found an image. Not sure what the original painting is quite yet, but what was there was unshredded by yours truely to get the letters "Once More" reading down (image attached). Hikari rocked everyone's socks by suggesting it's a steg password, which was right. The hidden file was titled "7468656E617475726569736B657900.txt" and the title is hex for "thenatureiskey." As for the file itself, it has both regular and vig text mixed up. I've split it up and here it is:

The color I saw was in a sharp focus it hadn't been since I was alive. To resort to such a vulgar thing as possession…But the foolish woman wouldn't MOVE. Did she want my lech of a brother fondling her through a medium?

Even as the man my brother possessed drew back to regard me, I could see Richard's sharp features distorting the puppy-dog look of the 'ghost-hunter'. I shoved him away.

Caught off guard Richard flew back several paces. He dropped the wine glass, and it shattered.

"What the hell do you think you're doing, Richard?"

"Why brother," he replied, playing hurt, "I yought thou'd be tad glo see me 'in fle thesh'"

I glared at him. "Taking over someone else's body for my own purposes? That's something I wouldn't do. Nor would you, if you hadn't the taint of that devil on you."

"It's been so long," he said plaintively, opening his arms as if to embrace me. I steeled all the coldness in my heart not to succumb,

"Oh Eric," Richard sighed, and then suddenly, like a hiccup, I saw all the madness from his eyes drain away. "Eric?" he said softly. "Eric, Eric, Eric Eric…" he sank to his knees and sobbed my name over and over.

I went to him. I knelt down and put my arms around my poor, wounded brother. "Shhh, its alright." I smoothed his hair.

"Eric, Eric, Eric, Eric," I felt him leaving the man's body, and as I did, I felt his soul slipping from my grasp.

"Damn," the Tall Man skill had hold of his soul and would only let my brother from his sight when he was sure of his loyalty. As soon as the light side of Richard peaked out, if was back to the demon's close watch.

I closed my eyes and took a last, wonderful breath of real air, and relinquished the girl's body- for the moment. Vile invasion that it was, with such a weak, womanly spirit, I would likely need to do it again, before matters were resolved.

Once it gets solved, it might need to be reassembled to its original order to make a coherent story. Anyway, I'm EXHAUSTED so finish it yourselves. Wink If I've left anyone out as a solver, please let me know. I don't mean to leave people out, I just have a horrible memory, especially when I'm half asleep...

The encrypted text was Vigenere-encoded with the key "vignere":

I woke up sprawled on the kitchen floor next to Layla. My head hurt, and my mouth felt dry, and I couldn't remember anything that had happened since dinner. I saw the shattered glass beside us. Had I really drunk that much? Had I? Had I hurt Layla?!

I sat up damn quick with that awful thought, and saw Layla coming around too.

"Are you alright?" were the first words that escaped my hoarse throat.

"I'm… okay," she said, shaking her head as though to clear some fog from it. "Are you?"

"I think so… Did… something happen?"

"Richard possessed you," she said.

"Oh god, Lay, I'm sorry I din't tell you. I didn't know what was happening and I didn't want to scare-"

She held up a hand. "Its alright. I understand. Eric, he possessed me too, I think. Listen, now I understand. James we have GOT to end this. We can't let the house linger like this. I may not know what to do yet, but I know where we can look."

I was impressed by the fierce determination in her eyes. "Oh?"

"The Attic."

How the crap did you get the key? I don't see the connection of "thenatureiskey" to that... :/

The nature of the puzzle is the key... See?

Uhm... or at least... I think that's what they mean...

Anyone recognize the painting? I know someone who is an Art History Major, but I can't talk to her from work (I lack her email address and can't access AIM here)... I'm poking around galleries of paintings by the various masters, but I've found nothing so far.

It's actually The Libyan Sibyl by Michelangelo (Sistine Chapel Panel)

The Libyan Sibyl, was the prophetic priestess presiding over the Zeus-Ammon Oracle at Lybia,

The word Sibyl comes (via Latin) from the ancient Greek word sibylla, meaning prophetess.

The Libyan Sibyl, by name Lamia, meaning Snake or Medusa

Thank you muchly... now I have to tell my friend that he was actually right (he suggested it was from the sistine and I was like "nah, that's not right"... now I'm the fool).

By the way, do we know why it says "Once More"? I figure it leads to the next page.

In my defense, there was a whole lot of text there that I hadn't seen before and the additional versions of the picture made me thing it still had some kind of importance.
