I don't have much to say (yet) in this thread except A) I'd love to have an excuse to go to SanFran, I have a number of places I can stay at, and I've never been, and B) I like Sanfran or Seattle for 06, but I'm a traveller at heart, anyway, so... whatever works for everyone else, I'll try to make.

Also, I am reasonably adept at making maps with indicators, making PDF's as kits for travellers, nametags, and any other visual gruntwork. I can also track down rates, help figure out central meeting areas, and all of that annoying crap. Whether it's 5.5 or 6.0, don't hesitate to ask. Smile

Clarification -- San Francisco is the site of the planned Hivemeet 05.5. As of yet, any planning for Hivemeet '06 is what you see here.

After the poll ended for the Chicago Hivemeet, angelo and I kinda wished we had just picked a date and stuck to it, since we were going to be the ones doing the grunt work, anyhow, in its earliest stages.

Good gosh! This is what happens when I'm away from the forums for a week! I think I'm ready for a poll for a 06 Hivemeet. I think like many folks, going on one grand trip a year is a big deal and doing two trips is really hard. I highly doubt I can go to San Francisco in November. I certainly wouldn't try driving then.

Back to 06', Incit mentioned some good things about Austin. I wouldn't mind heading down there or even holding an event here in Dallas, which is equally a fun city. I would say that if we meet up here in Texas we'd be gambling on the weather. Late May is ideal because it's usually not too hot yet but sometimes we get unexpected heat waves or strangely, cold fronts. Regardless, if it comes here in 2006, I think I can be one of the organizers but I would ask for help from at least one other person in the area.

That brings me to another point. What I learned about the ILB community after the Austin training event is that a lot of people here were lurkers and Halo fans in general; not too many ARGers or UF users. I suspect that there would possibly be a few locals(i.e. Gilada/Sizable Manowar, Machiavelli and Myself) but most people would be traveling a long way to get here.

So...yeah I think we need a poll, but I'll admit, my bias is out of convenience. I'm too lazy to travel more than 6 hours by car and I'd fly but airfare isn't cheap either. I know I'm not the only one who feels that way.

Also leaving out a few others...
Namly Rendon, Ubercado and DeathDefi

I think we can pull it off around here, it is pretty central-southernish as far as geography goes. Though I think a good demographic of where people are coming from would help to set a good city for the meet.
We should have a general interest listing, anyone with general interest in going to the meet should sumbit their ideal time and their home local.

Could help to best sort out the meet-point
I think I'll land my car in austin around mid-wednsday assuming I balls-to-the-wall the car ride and go non-stop NY to Austin... I'm gonna go for it too...

If I'm not mistaken, isn't Austin THE hub of the airtravel industry? Don't know if that saves on flight costs, though.

More benifts to Texas! I had another thought. Since a few beekeepers went to the anime convention in Chicago, perhaps we can plan our next meet-up around a big event as well. Every year in late March/ early April, the South By SouthWest Music, Film, and Interactive Festival is held in Austin. There are plenty of live music shows, independant film screenings and a growing area in computers and interactive media exhibits. Heh, we might even be able to get in to a few places for free if an ARG exhibit was setup and various members of the ARG community volunteered to staff a booth for a couple of hours. Last year it fell conviently on my springbreak. Hivemeet or not, I'll still probably go down to Austin for SXSW.

and don't forget that interesting series on the web called "Red vs Blue" are near the Austin area...and have been known to make appearances and one of a kind showings at South By SouthWest...

I'd love to go to SXSW, but let's have the HiveMeet another weekend. In fact, let's not have the HiveMeet organized around any other big event. We just won't see that much of each other. We'll split up to see different bands, different programs, different attractions --just like the anime convention drew some of us away during this year's meet. Since it's just the one weekend for most of us to see each other, I'd rather make that the main event. That's one reason I suggested a cruise. While we might split up here and there for various activities, it would be relatively easy for us all to be together as much as we wanted.

Strange, but true; this site has some suggestions on where to hold a reunion. Their favorites are theme parks and/or water parks, especially in the off season.

http://family-reunion.com/location.htm
http://family-reunion.com/cgi-bin/sitelist.cgi
http://family-reunion.com/themepks.htm

How much do we want it to cost per person, even if we know that some of us will be traveling on the cheap? Could we use our Chicago expenses as a baseline? Can everyone figure out (and are they willing to check...) how much they actually spent in Chicago?

Theme Parks? How about Cedar Point? I'd love that! But then again, it'll be closed in November ...

I think we're thinking for next year, not november. The november meet is pretty well set in SF, as far as I can tell.
