Um, not to burst anyone's bubble, but you can advance through the game faster by right-clicking and selecting the "Play" option -- puts you right through the first two levels. I didn't do this for level 3, which was the most fun for me, so maybe it goes too quickly through for this trick to work on the 3rd.
Of course, if you want to spend 30 minutes of your time trying to squash virtual bugs, be my guest. This is something I picked up when doing some Flash work myself.

changed settings They must have seen Jamesi's post and changed the SWF file to hide the 'play' option. Whoa, that was a real contest! Those damn spiky blocks were unstoppable! But to confirm, I also got a three-letter code and emailed it promptly.

Decompiled? Has anyone decompiled the Flash code to see if it actually looks to an external source for the password? Or does this silly little game just generate some random string of three letters? It'd be nice if there were an easier way to get the password than playing such an ugly game. I mean, no offense to who made it, I haven't yet done better ... but eeeeagh.
If not, maybe I'll just have to learn how to look at Flash innards myself - when I have time, which might not be for a few days.

Decompile? Why bother? Getting the full menu back is pretty trivial, because the option is set in the HTML code that loads the .swf file, not the .swf file itself. View source, edit (make sure you add the full path to the .swf reference), save locally, run, laugh.
Also, I played it while disconnected from the 'net, and it still generated a password. So they're generated by the .swf locally, at least. I suppose there might be valid and invalid combinations of three characters, but the whole thing seems awfully meaningless.

hacking? I was tempted to decompile, but we've recently discussed what's appropriate use of in-game hacking, and I wasn't quite clear on how this would be accepted. Any thoughts on this?

ok Alright, alright.
I've just heard a lot of talk about solving puzzles the way they were intended. It's not quite 'brute force', but for anyone who works with ActionScript - that game just becomes an open book when decompiled.
But if it's been used before - I guess it's fair game. The creators knew how easy it'd be to decompile.

Considering that the new email from Raymond Gatin implicates the GO game as an illegal, possibly information-stealing trojan (or something like that), it's quite possible that we're meant to decompile it.

strange That is very strange...
I'm not sure if anyone remembers this, but when Virtuquest first surfaced their WHOIS info listed a Toronto phone number. Being the investigative personality I am, I gave them a ring. They had listed the address and phone number of the Truffles Four Restaurant, which is the hotel restaurant for the Four Seasons here in Toronto (one of the top-end hotels around here). The Maitre-D' was quite confused by my line of questioning and had never heard of Virtuquest.
Why would this come into play again?
