Talking with Scapegoat

So, over at stolena3, there is a new poster - someone who seems to be a former Tatum Think employee.

And since I'm just such a huge fan of TT (hah!) I pm'd him to see if I could get anything out of him.

that is if you want to talk to me. i can understand how you'd be paranoid over the TT people suing you.

Rowan

Hopefully I covered my tracks well enough that won't happen. Kind of fun to mess with their heads for a change.

dang. Got a bunch of emails, didn't realize this board did that. switching to PMs.

Things were so messed up at TatumThink I'm still angry about it. the number in my handle isn't meaningless, it's the date I got laid off.

I sent him a message along the lines of:

So are you Frank or Paul?

Any insight into the mind of Old Man Tatum?

okay that's creepy that you know the names of people who've been fired. not that I'm admitting to anything. Who are you?

He posted it in his "rant and roll" man. It's public knowledge.

We're beginning to wonder if that game is even real or just a cover to get in Nisha's pants, because, no offense, it looks really bad.

It's the damn "Water World" of video games, except he's funding it all himself and he's cheap and cruel. He doesn't even know what kind of game he wants it to be. I shouldn't say too much, do you know anyone hiring game designers in SoCal?

Actually, check with HitsHerMark, she's in the industry.
I'm in NC myself.

On another note:
Does Virigl like to repeat himself or would he prefer to eliminate repetition?

Personally I liked 'Water World' but some people didn't... see if you can get him to talk more about how, before he was fired, Virgil worked and acted around others... see if it matches with Emile's description... it will be slighly different because of the time difference, but people don't change that fast, do they?

Hey, you know, if you're bored with time on your hands, you could help us figure out something we're working on. This demonic cube. Virgil's of course. Although you've probably spent enough time with Virgil's puzzles to last you seven lifetimes. So never mind.

Thanks for the sympathy. I'm more a graphics guy than a puzzler. I'm working on a nice little nugget now to get Mr. Lead Game Designer's goat. :ph34r.gif:

Water World wasn't a bad movie, but it cost way more then it should have due to the fact that Kev convinced everybody that they had to make everything from scratch rather then modifying existing stuff like Jet Skis. Also, rather then just building stuff just off a coast, they actually did go out into the middle of nowhere on the open ocean to shoot. (So I've heard.)

With all these extra expenses created by Kev's "vision" a moderately good movie lost more money then you can shake a stick at.

The stunt show at Universal Hollywood is good though. (If it's still going.)

I could go off about "Feature Creep" and why it's bad not to have a Producer to talk some sense into creative types who will never - be - finished.

But I won't bore you all with that. Long and short (too late) is that if Virgil wants the game to ever be done, he is going to have to make some hard choices. Seeing as how he funding this show himself, Rodger Coreman style, thus has no publisher breathing down his neck about a deadline; that's not likely to happen.

Hm. He seems like a guy who might possibly go *way* over the edge. You know, you might want to be watching your back.
It helps to have a few models still laying around on your hard drive. Virgil will send his lap dogs to do his bidding rather than bother with it himself. Figured I should have some fun while I'm looking for a new job. cool.gif

Not that it matters, but they shot most of it just off the coast of the big island of Hawaii. I have a friend from college who lives there, as well as my Girlfriend's father. Both attested to seeing the set of the atoll from the shore. There were news reports when the slave colony set was sunk by a storm and had to be rebuilt as well.

My guess is that building huge floating sets that were mobile was the biggest expense after effects.

Hello,

You joined this little forum at a time when I had to be away, so welcome.

I am interested in Virgil's condition - he sounds paranoid and delusional in part on the latest phone calls he had with Nisha and Ian. Anything to add?

I am also interested on the puzzle that is from his site - the cube puzzle. I think somewhere emile said it might have been made as a test for new employees....Have you seen it? There are threads in this forum that discuss it, I won't waste your time by posting it all again. If you can't find it, let me know and I will message it to you.

Thanks
~rose

The best thing about losing this job was finding out how many people dislike my boss as much as me! Vee is so off his rocker that the rest of us just tried to stay out of his way as much as possible. I'll send more stuff later, have to run to a job interview. OMG you should see the crappiest "letter of recommendation" that TT snet me to "help with my job search." I'd have more luck wearing a "LEPER WILL PUSH PIXELS FOR FOOD" sign around me neck.

Job interview went lousy. GRRR! If I have to take some crappy fast food job to make ends meet! I'll hound TatumThink to the ends of the earth!

I remember people talking about that cube. That's that search a word thing right? Haven't played around with it myself, but I remember someone talking about how the 2d words unlock one set of stuff and the 3d words another? Not my kind of thing, but I might know another ex-TatumSerf or two who know something about it. I've been trying to get more of them to come and post here. Can you imagine? Like a dozen ex-TatumSerfs all hounding Mr. Lead Game Designer's every move? LOL

Now I need a beer. Or two.
