for completeness

another hint ... this time from scapegoat.. posting here so it isn't buried in interactions

Job interview went lousy. GRRR! If I have to take some crappy fast food job to make ends meet! I'll hound TatumThink to the ends of the earth!

I remember people talking about that cube. That's that search a word thing right? Haven't played around with it myself, but I remember someone talking about how the 2d words unlock one set of stuff and the 3d words another? Not my kind of thing, but I might know another ex-TatumSerf or two who know something about it. I've been trying to get more of them to come and post here. Can you imagine? Like a dozen ex-TatumSerfs all hounding Mr. Lead Game Designer's every move? LOL

Now I need a beer. Or two.

Almost Solved..

We knew the Virgil words lead to folders, now we know they are also usernames and passwords. I noticed a pattern when putting them out into a grid, there were two unused words between the used words, so I tried user/pass and it worked.

From the 2D words:

http://cipher:imposter@www.virgilkingofcode.com/conspiratoria
http://digitaria:downfall@www.virgilkingofcode.com/emile/
http://silence:caravaggio@www.virgilkingofcode.com/nisha/
http://lastresort:masked@www.virgilkingofcode.com/demise/
http://gunter:artifice@www.virgilkingofcode.com/kingofcode/
http://torment:rabelais@www.virgilkingofcode.com/hideko/
http://sophism:cubism@www.virgilkingofcode.com/cheat
http://misery:zorro@www.virgilkingofcode.com/grief/
http://demons:burrow@www.virgilkingofcode.com/forger/
http://artistry:defraud@www.virgilkingofcode.com/muddle/

/console ???

From the 3D words:

http://forthcoming:expediency@www.virgilkingofcode.com/infatuation/
http://infatuation:forthcoming@www.virgilkingofcode.com/expediency/

/forthcoming ??

They seem to lead to another puzzle..

incredible ehsan... good work! these remind me of something.... oh yeah Gollum... *best Gollum voice ever* 'Nobody likes you...' so Virgil is now a Gollum-like guy where he puts himself down... on the internet... man... this dude is getting 'cooler' by the second...

I've been with it the entire time... didn't understand it... but I was here... and I said Ehsan because you were the one to think of a pattern and put it to use... although I will say that you people are an amazing bunch of people that all deserve.... a really big... something... I'm not quite sure, but something none the less...

The attached Excel sheet shows the pattern if you want to see how the u/p combos were found..

/console is still unknown.. maybe there's a mistake somewhere..

Worshippy Worshippy Worshippy Wow - I'm seriously impressed. Well done to everyone who worked on this; I wish I could count myself among you, but I had to lie down for a moment or two every time I looked at this thread... You can all count yourselves as Virgil's equeals (and I mean that in a good way)

3D words - partial summary

cogitating on the meaning of scapegoat's clue

These are the 3D words(in-depth) that are meaningful:

Code:

newconceptualization
aftersixthebeginning
otherdirectionsexist
almost
(14,13, 6) ( 0, 0, 1): heistecznombaeolhozt: heist
(19,12,13) ( 0, 0, 1): lingobvwdzqmuepsoxur: lingo
( 2, 1, 5) ( 0, 0, 1): naokojknaeodgdigbrir: naoko
( 1, 5, 1) ( 0, 0, 1): nishapvreykdbinoyucr: nisha
( 6, 1,13) ( 0, 0, 1): sambavrnrfuaarselndg: samba
( 4,11,10) ( 0, 0,19): abovehcgrbbracrmhpeo: above
(12, 7, 9) ( 0, 0,19): doubttuysaagyecpwbnf: doubt
(14, 0,19) ( 0, 0,19): cabalsorlzgfjlorjrnk: cabal
(13,16, 6) ( 0, 0,19): naokoodskmsvpgznjriu: naoko

re-ordered in-context:
01234567890123456789
olhoztHEISTecznombae
wdzqmuepsoxurLINGObv
gbrirNAOKOjknaeodgdi
rNISHApvreykdbinoyuc
nrfuaarselndgSAMBAvr
brgchEVOBAoephmrcarb
aasyutTBUODfnbwpceyg
knrjroljfgzlrosLABAC
ksdoOKOANuirjnzgpvsm

We know that sideways start at 3 leads to: expediency,
and after 6 the beginning leads to "infatDation" when combined with ALMOST

OtherDirectionsExist is just to lead us in the direction of the long diagonals.
So, I decided to look at what else might occur after the other "in-depth" words listed above.
Using the (row, col) of the 9 in-depth words above, I looked through helper's list for any other words that started on that (row, col):

Code:

( 1, 5, 1) ( 0, 0, 1): nishapvreykdbinoyucr: nisha
( 1, 5, 1) ( 0,19, 0): naokokboldbextinctio: naoko
( 1, 5, 3) ( 0,19, 0): sheafoqdhsezcznniliw: sheaf
( 1, 5,13) (19,19, 1): babelacklmardsllbiun: babel
( 2, 1, 5) ( 0, 0, 1): naokojknaeodgdigbrir: naoko
( 2, 1, 6) ( 1, 0, 0): afterlifesesfsbhtklq: afterlife
( 6, 1, 2) ( 1, 0,19): feastlakuebecaqiareh: feast
( 6, 1,13) ( 0, 0, 1): sambavrnrfuaarselndg: samba
(19,12,13) ( 0, 0, 1): lingobvwdzqmuepsoxur: lingo
(19,12,13) ( 0,19, 0): lazerbabyxbkzwbowzyc: lazerbaby

sheaf & babel and feast & samba don't seem relevant: the others
look like this in depth:
Code:

row 2, column 1, layer 2(non-helper coord):
okoan
    i
    s
    h
    a

(3, 2, 6) - afterlife reads vertically
n
afterlife
o
k
o

(20,5,13)
ybabrezal
        i
        n
        g
        o

Just thought I'd share a bit more of Virgil's dementedness.

Hello,
after looking at http://deaddrop.us/wiki/index.php/EvilCube , I noticed that if you consider rot-22 (and not rot-23) the "good" ROT for "misery", then all the ROT numbers are unique and could be used to reorder the pages (the original pages or the deciphered ones), maybe another word will then appear vertically? Or, alternatively, has a word search with the computer already been done if you use the original ordering of the pages, but use the decrypted/ROTed versions? So, all in all, three different vertical/diagonal wordsearches?

Yeah, ditto here... excellent work to those that helped on this one. Whenever I looked at this thread and tried to figure it out what was going on, I could only blink at the screen. Worshippy

Since this isn't totally solved, and I'm beginning to think those error messages aren't going to yield very much, the obvious place to look for the remaining two user/pass combos is back inside this Evil Cube.

I have two ideas I'd like to see tried out, but I can't run helper's program, which is the fastest way to do these things:

1) Rot the whole cube 25 times, +1, ... +25, and see if any vertical words appear(through layers, or along long diagonals). I have the files for each layer rot'ed already if anyone wants them.

2) Rot each layer specifically according to the ROT-# of the unique word, and then look for vertical words. I.e., Rot layers 1-20 by:
Code:
-1, -2, -6, -8, -3, -20, -19, -10, -14, -4, -9, -11, -23, -5(-23), -12, -13, -7, -15, -17(-16), -23

Yeah, looks like the cube isn't done yet (per the 6/13 virgil rant) - http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=166412#166412

have we exhausted the error messages clues?

and hints from Virgil's rant...that seem to say the cube may overlap with othe parts of the game?

doppleganger - Isn't this German? I know it means the person who looks just like you, just wondering because Gunter mentioned twins a few times in his Chicago rant

"perfect melody" - I know the music is important

and of course

"eyes on the future"

"conceive of task in new ways"
