I'm not trying to be mean and chop up your post, but I want to use it as an example.

I know that we would all like to see some characters, refernces, in jokes, from ilovebees in future Halo games/movies/what-have-you. But let's be realistic. Unless we all storm Bungie HQ with weapons and burning torches and demand this, it won't happen. I really hate to be the pessimist on this issue, but Bungie has flat out stated ILB is not canon. I was actually appalled when I read that article about the script adhering to their Halo bible. What a bunch of bullshit. When has anything they've made that is not Halo and Halo 2 adhered to their bible? They can't even get their own books with their company logo on them to adhere to their bible. George Lucas understands this, just see Epsiode 3 and ask why General Grevious is coughing at the begining of the film. I want to believe that maybe, finally Bungie is figuring out the concept of continuity, and that they understand that this is what their fans want. Not stupid easter eggs like the initials of the texture maker on the feet of the spartan 3D model. Give me sekrit terminals that expand the video game universe like we had in Marathon!

Anyway, the script is already supposedly written, so I guess this point is moot.

Bungie has such an awsome franchise here. I want to see them succeed with it. And I don't nescesarily measure success in dollars.

If you guys didn't catch it, Fox and Universal bought it in a joint move for 5 mill, half of what MS wanted for the script. Supposedly there's stilla few details to iron out, and it might all go to hell thanks to creative differences but at least it will be interesting to see how the cards play out.
Edit- At least Frankie seems to think the script is canon, thanks to tonights update.

Moviegoers ask,

Have you read the Halo movie script?

I've read an early draft of the script, and it rules. I heart Alex Garland's stuff anyway, from The Tesseract to 28 Days Later. Garland also wrote the script for an upcoming Sci-Fi flick, Sunshine, which you can read more about here: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0448134/

Best thing about Alex, apart from his ability to type awesomeness, is that he's actually a Halo fan, and he really, really gets it.

I'm somewhat relieved by Frankie's statement that Alex "gets it". There are plenty of talented writers who wouldn't, and plenty of writers who would be fans of "Halo" but not have the particular style (or skill in that style at least) to pull off a script that feels like "Halo".

That doesn't mean that I'm sanguine about the upcoming movie... the writers of Final Fantasy certainly "got" what the FF series was like, but the end result was much weaker than hoped for. I'm hoping that Microsoft doesn't give in on the "creative control" clause, and that's why the royalty advance dropped so much.

-- Steve understands Hollywood's infinite ability to turn gold into crap... and it's miraculous ability to sometimes turn crap into gold. (Fingers crossed.)

Hey, am I the only perosn out there that straight up loved the Final Fantasy movie? I saw it twice in the theatres, it was great! Anyways, I think the story will turn out great, but I really sincerly hope that it doesn't end up to be a flop in the theatres, no matter how good the script is.

This movie has money written all over it. Microsoft (very powerful company) is going to be pushing their game, Halo (which has sold extremely well). I'm pretty sure that the latter part of the equation will secure the large established fan-base, while the former will take care of the uninitiated and do a pretty good job of bringing those people in.

Besides, there just might be another ARG in the works to promote the movie... ;X

FF:SW was a beautiful movie, and it's script was faithful to the games. That said, I don't know who was the ad wizard that thought a faithful representation of FF game plots would sell tickets. Those stories just aren't ready for prime time. Don't get me wrong, I have been a fan of FF from back on the NES all the way to FFX. FF, Resident Evil, and Metal Gear have probably done more than just about any other franchises to make games more cinematic, so they work well as games. I know some square stories have been better than others, but the feel of a great straight-up story just hasn't been there. It's a shame, too...Square movies had the potential to be incredible, but they need to tone down the lack-of-mass-appeal in the plotlines.

Halo, on the other hand, could make a run as a great classic sci-fi action movie with a somewhat thin plot, and we all know that the universe lends itself as a great blank-slate for incredible storytelling (even if you don't include it's main characters!). Dunno about the rest of you, but I've been waiting for something like this for a long time. A popular, well done video game movie might make non-gamers look at the genre as a serious art form. That would do more to undermine demonizing media portrails than fifty years of pro-game lobbying. If Halo fails here (like Street Fighter and The Wiz did in the past), I'm confident that Oddworld will do this instead. It's also good news that more and more big actors do VO work on games and directors like John Singleton and John Woo are directing future games. It will be a happy day when games have progressed beyond being interactive ports of movies and games with a story tacked on as an afterthought.

Consider my opinion of somebody that never played any FF games and I didn't like FF: SW ... It was beautifully done, but I didn't like the story at all ...

I'm not real excited about a movie version of the games or a re-imagining of the story (see DOOM).

I'm with you here. I also agree that Fall of Reach would be a great story, but, as people have said, there's no Halo ... I think they should make a movie version of the games, even though I'd love to see something else. The thing is, even with more than 10 million copies sold, Halo story (not the game!) is not very well known outside gamers or even outside xbox owners! Movies are mainstream and I think if they can pull off the flood twist on the big screen, it can be a huge success! Even though I'd prefer a ILB plot or an original plot, I'd understand if they used the games' plot.
