POLL-Are we holding things up? Do you think that we are holding up the game (that we should be doing/finding something to start it?)?

On the one hand, we were told that when the game started there would be no mistaking it.
On the other there are an awful lot of "live" sites now, including e-mail to the New River University Administration.
On the Third Hand (the grasping hand) ... Acheron Registration had the cryptic message about Reggie, and the Terminal page said
"Has the time arrived?" and "I'd better get cracking."
I'm personally not sure if the game is live yet or not, but if not there is still some things to play with in the mean time, until I get my hand slapped....

I know that the FAQ forbids hacking..
Quote:
Do not attempt to hack the servers, voicemail systems, satellite imaging systems, or printers. Basically don't break any laws. We don't encourage breaking the law for in-game events.
But doesn't what you just said sound like we're supposed to? "Has the time arrived?" Isn't that the question on everyone's mind.. followed by "I'd better get cracking." Cracking, of course, could vey well refer to the cracking of websites and such and such.. the real term for what hollywood calls "hacking." Maybe we ARE supposed to use the programs that came on the CD's?
If you look closely at the FAQ, it says it forbids hacking servers, voicemal systems, satellite imagine systems (they have those???), and printers.. but nothing about individual websites. Granted, you could argue that server would cover any sort of webserver.. but... maybe it doesn't cover breaking into specific areas on a website? Or.. the login.html that came on the CD?
I'm just shooting in the dark here (can anyone else smell my desperation?).. any thoughts?

One of the things I noticed is that everyone seems to expect the game to start with an e-mail, a telephone call or some other "personalized" contact.
Could it be possible that the "terminal" page is the contact we have been looking for? It isn't a trailer. The message about Reggie on the Registration page... they want to tblur the edges of the "stage" in a major way, including watching this forum. NRU and associated sites are "live" after being shut down to contact.
At least one person has received contact from an "in-game" organization NRU security, and from Reggie as well.
If the PM's were upset with what was happening, don't you think the Acheron Admin would have handled it and not an in-game group?
Several of us have received "rejection" letters from NRU regarding becoming students at the university.
I am going to put myself out on a limb here and speculate that we have recieved enough contact to state The Game is moving, we missed the boat.
In any conspiracy, the first signs of it as small and easy to miss, but as time goes on things become harder to ignore.
The computer support department tells people sending in a trouble ticket to "Mail Denie"
Here are the first set of puzzles:
1. Who is Denie and how do we contact him?
2. How can we contact Reggie and get the key to the encrypted scripts from the logon page redirect (from the pre-game CD) that leads to the NRU physics department back door entrance?
We can sit around and twiddle out thumbs or we can dig in the areas available to dig to get these first sets of answers, that way, even if the game hasn't started yet, we don't have to worry about overcoming the initial inertia that is present until we get things rolling....
Oh, and here, you can have the two cents back, I have too many pennies as it is....

Hey Folks, when I got my first MAIL DENIE email rejection letter I thought it had sounded familiar..so I looked it up. Being a Canadian, we have to take years of French classes (because we are supposedly a bilingual country)..but of course it's been awhile since I ever had to use french and the terminology had slipped my mind.
Anyhow, to get to the point (sorry, you'll notice I tend to ramble) Denie is the french word for Denied...MAIL DENIE=MAIL DENIED.

Thanks SK... but that then leads to the questions, Why French for a reply from an "american" institution? Or if they are doing it to be friendly to the foreign exchange students, why not several languages? Given the college location I could see them including spanish translations....
hmmmppph... Maybe we should translate "patience" from the terminal page into a few languages and plug it in to the password....

Hello again, you have some interesting ideas I haven't thought of.
You could definitely try different languages and such but it's my guess that the mail denie thing could just be a default error from the mail software the PM's use...but I could be wrong (lord know it wouldn't be the first time LOL).
With regards to the login pwd...my guess is that the program just creates random garble to make it look like it actually does something...what do you think?
Thanks again for the fresh ideas!!

Perhaps the "random garble" it is returning is the correct password, each time encrypted with a different key thus returning a different result each time.

Building on that.. perhaps the correct password is the random garble.. and we just have to figure out the correct username entry, and then used its garbled password.
Not sure if this has already been said (i'm sure it has, but i'll state it again just for the hell of it).. but the garbled stuff always has in common the first 3 characters: "$1$" ..significant?

Adding to my last post.. i've tried different combos using words like "Reggie," "Acheron," and others.. as well as the username i used when i registered for Acheron and the name (and name/pw) i registered at cfrg.us.
Nothing.
But doesn't it feel like we're supposed to use it for something? Why else give us the login.html?
It could be that when the game launches we will all be given tidbits of info that will lead us to the working PW and login.. but it could also be that we already have the info we need and we just haven't found it.
Sorry for all the pennies i'm throwing around.. you guys can keep the change.
