Clearing things up?

Hey all.

The Traveler is a book written by John Twelve Hawks. I first became aware of this book when a book buyer for one of the major chainstores queried me on the identity of the author, because I am an active contributor to the SFF industry on several fronts. This book buyer suspected that Twelve Hawks was a pseudonym used by a science fiction author, and thought I may have heard rumblings on his TRUE identity.

I started searching.

In the process, I've discovered things that have made me - what? Not sure how to describe it. Wary? Nervous? Confused?

Events have occured in the past months that have convinced me of some things.

1) The book is a book. A novel, plain and simple. A very GOOD book, by the way - I've read it twice now.

2) John Twelve Hawks lives off the Grid.

3) The Grid exists. It is not fictional. It is here. You can find it. This isn't like The Matrix, or like the conspiracy theories that you can find anywhere. I'm not a nutcase - I'm a well-adjusted literary critic and writer, father of three kids, not prone to believing Disinformation.com or any other radical extremist views.

4) However, I have had very strange conversations with very strange people.

5) I have also opened my eyes, and looked at the world, and seen things that bother me.

6) The Traveler is a novel. Fiction. What you see on the web is marketing material that goes with the book.

7) But you're looking in the WRONG PLACES. You have to look in the right places to find the real game... which is not a game. Use the existing game as a springboard, and find the rest of it.

Deeper and deeper it goes. If you choose to search, you can find it. If you don't, you can play the game.

But sometimes, a game is only a game until you stumble into the real world through it.

Have *YOU* ever received untraceable sat-phone calls and spoken with people who use vocal distorters? Have *YOU* ever been the target of surveillance? Have *YOU* ever accidentally stepped off the Grid and into another world?

I have.

You can.

It all depends on how you look at things.

Interesting twist on TINAG..."it is a game, but it's not."

I honestly don't know what to make of this. Around here, when reality meets alternate, things get weird. I think I'm going to keep going along with this, but I honestly don't know what to think of Gabe or the things he's saying at the moment. Shocked Well, guess I'll just proceed with a bit more caution, and I am totally going out and buying that book. and what the hell is IIAG BIN?

IIAG BIN=It is a game, but its not.

This looks deviously complicated, I hope we can get through it!

Tiny & the rest,

Honestly, this isn't a twist to an alternate reality game. The sites that have been listed above were put together by the same company that created the sites for THE DAVINCI CODE. It's marketing, and is taken directly from the book. Judith Strand is an alias of Maya, the primary character. Gabriel Corrigan is also a character, and is not gabe chouinard.

gabe chouinard is a writer/photographer/graphic designer that has been online for many years. Do a Google on me. I'm just a dude.

However, I made the mistake of researching what is in the book. And I started to find patterns, and started to find people, and started to find out how much of it is REAL. And now I'm caught up in it, and things are getting weird. *LIKE* an alternate reality game, but not.

The Grid really is out there. You can see it if you look for it.

In London, the average person is recorded by approximately 300 cameras per day. Who is watching? More importantly, as so eloquently expressed in the comic, "who watches the watchmen"?

I'm starting to find out. Hell, I'm still perched at the peak of the iceberg, looking down.

Read the book, by all means.

Then start searching, and you'll discover a whole new reality operating beneath the one you *think* you know.

And if the caller ID tells you that someone is calling from the phone number "2", don't answer it.

Deeper and deeper.

Have you heard of ChoicePoint and Lexis-Nexis?

Dude, I work for a law firm. There is nothing sinister about LexisNexis. Boring, yes. Sinister, no.

ChoicePoint, on the other hand....

LexisNexis also sold their information to the government. And remember, it is illegal for the FBI to compile dossiers on citizens... and yet, they have done just that.

Hmm.

Now there's a thought. I wonder if you could use LexisNexis in an ARG.... Idea

So what you're saying is that we do have spies. Thank goodness. When that report came out saying that basically the CIA was less tech-savvy than your average 10-year-old, I was really disappointed.

This is my constant reassurance that there is no global conspiracy - there's just too many dumb people around for it to work.

So Gabe, sounds like you're drawing comparisons between this "Grid" and the masses of data that is collected about us on databases all over the world. Now, call me a sheep or blind to the truth or what have you, but right now, I can really deal with that. After all, I'm about to embark on the financial badness of a university education, and AmEx offered me a platinum credit card, telling me I'd been "specially chosen." So, forgive my cynicism regarding the smooth running of the data-mining and surveillance machine.

That said, if you want to explore the issues surrounding data, privacy and so on - and it is a pretty interesting topic - then it might be more appropriate for you to start a thread in the
Various & Sundry section. And while you seem like a credible enough guy, it probably wouldn't do you harm to discuss specifics rather than post a series of cryptic messages and links - if you hadn't noticed, there's rather a lot of them around these parts. Very Happy

I'm sorry if anyone thinks I've come here to espouse some political viewpoint or datamining/privacy issues. That wasn't my point.

Nor do I wish to be cryptic. However, until I speak with someone, I don't know what can and cannot be said. I've probably gone overboard already, and chances are I'll have to deal with the consequences.

All I'm trying to say is that you have to open your eyes and mind, and do your research, and you'll understand this a little bit more. I've tried to point you in the right direction, toward the right knowledge. It's your choice to follow it or not.

The Grid is the Grid. By posting here, you've all been marked. Soft language is the only way to evade them.

A week or so ago, a gentleman who worked at a publishing company in Oregon was approached by the Secret Service because he was appalled by this news story:

http://www.ccchronicle.com/paper/arts.php?id=1233

Here is the way the story panned out:

http://www.livejournal.com/users/jlassen/186474.html?view=415338#t415338

Now you tell me what is real and what is not real?
