true, but runners can figure out puzzles, and they may not have it locked down. I say we be safe

I received this email minutes after applying for the second time to be a Sandman.

I have tried actually putting in the first sequence we were given in the email in the SRI interface, but it did'nt work.

This must be some kind of a puzzle, hope we can work it out.

I also reckon we all got the same codes.

My guess is that you combine all 5 answers to form one single code.

I believe that we should follow the secretive spirit. Not all the time, not as a rule, but in the interest of this game I think it is warranted for now. I havent looked at what you guys have done on your codes, and I wont. I'll seeyou in training when I figure it out. Smile

This board is OUT OF GAME. If a PM looks here for information to use against the players in the game, then the game is fundamentally flawed anyway.

I agree about not posting the answers publically, but if anybody can offer a clue to the 5th sequence, feel free to PM me Smile...clues, not answers.

true, the board is out of game, but that means that players who would normally not have access to sandman information, can use this board as a way of "cheating" in the "war" between sandmen and runners

We're not referring to PMs seeing this, we're referring to people who haven't been recruited to be Sandmen getting the code and entering it.

And I'll say it again, the game isn't flawed if the PMs use this forum to gain information. Unfiction has no control over what a PM can and cannot do. If they want to use info on here in the game, they can.

There is no "ARG RULE" that all PMs must follow.

Back up. I must be missing something here. I'm not seeing anywhere to put in the answers. Are we supposed to use the answers as our Sandman login key?

i emailed my answers back to SMHQ and I got this

Quote:
Your communication of Sandman interest has been received. Please wait for further communication from SMHQ as to how to proceed.

Thank you

although it did say "There is no need to respond to this communication" in the email with the sequences...so this may not be right

Au contraire, I was specifically referring to this quote:
Quote:
we should be allowed to share stuff here..but I am a bit paranoid that the PM's are gonna be looking here....

...but for some reason it didn't show up in my post. Smile

In any event, of course the PMs could scour Unfiction for information to use against the players, but it would be bad form, IMO. Sure, look around to see where players are and what they are working on, but don't take what they posted in an out-of-game venue and turn it into in-game. It's precisely that argument which has caused so much meta disagreement in the past, and I sincerely hope the same tired subject will flare up anew. If anyone wants to continue this line of thought, however, it should be in Meta, not in the game forum.

Edit: This Meta discussion is continued here. Back on topic! -SpaceBass

It hasn't gone that far, because this is talking about the email. The email said not to share information, yet here are people sharing it...

See here. Please direct further meta discussion to that thread.

This puzzle is somewhat tough, but I got most of the puzzles down, and guessed on the last one. If we all got the same puzzles, and you are going for sandman, please AIM me so we can figure out the last one.

bruisedbreasts is my AIM name.

Holy Moly, we are already argueing about what the PMs want or don't want and we haven't even started the game yet.

In the spirit of UF here's the letter I recieved from Sandman HQ. I will spoiler it so you don't have to look at it if you don't want to.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Citizen;

While your SMHQ surveillance file reflects some unusual activity,
we still believe you have the potential to be a Sandman of some
stature. From this moment on you will be held to a higher standard.
Your honesty and abilities will be monitored, tracked, and evaluated.

As stage one of your recruitment, please complete the following
sequences for access to SMHQ SRI.

2, 4, 6, 8, ____

A, E, F, H, ____

N, S, E, ____

20.25, 13.5, 9, ___

A1, AN, A___

There is no need to respond to this communication.
There is no need to share this access sequence.
