Jenn Mann has been absolutely wonderful during the distribution efforts. It seems like Krystyn and I are in the same boat about being Verizon customers. I just received the treo today, and I'm trying to get through to PalmOne (I'm on hold as I type) to see if either I can trade it in or get them to reprogram it.

johnny5 had given me some inside scoop about contacting PalmOne, but of course, like the port-o-potty commando I am, I've forgotten it.

Anyway, wish me (and krystyn) luck!

Well, it's unlocked

I got the phone unlocked. I ended up buying the unlock off of EBay. Someone is selling a way to unlock the phone for $40 using some special software. Worked like a charm.

Have to figure out how to set it up for T-Mobile internet. I'm going to flash the firmware to the latest version tomorrow & see if that helps.

Matt

All I had to do was activate Unlimited Internet on my T-mobile account. They said it would take 2 hours to update, but it was ready by the time I was half way to E3.

I'll second that! I just got an update from her that Palm is sending me a new Treo to replace my "stolen" one. Yay!

Heh.. they really are pretty cool. I probably wouldn't have bought one myself, but I might've been able to get my company to pay for it. I didn't realize just how cool these things are! I've always been more fond of pocketPC devices but the simplicity in the Treo is nice. I just wish it had an IPSEC client and a Terminal Services/Remote desktop app.. Sad

Yeah, I didn't think I'd ever really *need* one, but even without being able to use the phone functionality yet I've already used it quite a bit.

Gatekeeper, check out this link:

http://www.palmone.com/us/wireless/vpn/

It looks like the movian client supports IPSEC. It is rather expensive at $75, though.

I haven't even opened mine because I am afraid it will nullify whatever they end up trying to help me with ... I even had a dream last night that I was ablt to terminate my contract with Verizon and switch to Cingular at no cost, just so I could use it.

People, it's sitting in a box on the table, taunting me.

Sigh.

Here's a thread from mytreo.net which lists a few remote desktop programs:

My father has been using Treos since the 300 and I've been quite green with envy since he first pulled it out so we could talk to my Mom over the speaker phone. Seeing as how I'm starting an MBA program I knew I was going to have to see about getting a new PDA (I've been using an old Palm VII up to now, and not often since it's something of a pain to carry around multiple pieces of electronica... at least for me.)

However, if it were not for Hiest... I'd have probably found myself a reconditioned 300 or something.

This thing is so awsome, in a few months, I won't know how I lived without it! The only downside I can see over my old Nokia is that I could type a text message with one hand on the Nokia. Not so much with a full QUERTY keyboard... Small price to pay though. Smile

For those of you with Sprint or Unlocked GSM Treo 650s, a new updater was released today.

Krystyn,

You might want to put it on eBay, and use the money to buy yourself a Verizon one. I'm doing that, and it's currently up to $410.

My local Verizon store is selling Treo 650s for $250 with a new contract. If I wait until December, I get my $100 "New Every Two" discount and that Treo will cost me $150.

Teehee... and even if you're locked, it looks like you can unlock it yourself now with the updater and some playing around... Unlocked GSM
