bus to Penn Station

hi Kona!

Try this link for the private bus service

From JFK or LaGuardia or Newark for that matter, I have found the cheapest and most convenient way to get to the city is to take a private-- not city--bus from the terminal. Every terminal has signs for where to find the bus stop.

The bus will take you to Penn Station, which is right across the street from the Hotel Pennsylvania, where most people are staying. (actually, the driver might be able to let you off right in front of the Hotel.) You should be able to meet up with someone at the Hotel.

I wouldn't suggest taking the subway that early on Saturday as the connecting trains don't run that often on Saturday morning. You might be stuck waiting on a platform for a while.

We can make specific arrangements closer to the day.

Early arrivals

I know some people will arrive on Thursday or early on Friday. In my endless quest to get people to see a Museum while they are here, I would be glad to organize a group tour, or just take you around to see my favorite stuff, at the Metropolitan Museum. [ Or the Natural History Museum and Rose Space Center. A friend of mine does tours on Friday there.]
You can enter the Met for $1.00 despite the signs posting the suggested admission. I am not sure how much the Natural History Museum is, but the last time I was there it seemed expensive if you aren't a member.

There is a fine place for lunch at the Museum - or we could find a place in the Park, depending on the weather and people's preferences.

Of course, if you would rather spend time doing your own thing, I promise not to take it personally. Very Happy

It's official...I'm coming to NYC! I just booked my hotel reservations at Hotel Pennsylvania, and I should be arriving early Friday afternoon. Woo!

Now, if you are coming, go update the ARGFest wiki with the scoop on who you are, where you're staying, and what fun stuff you'd like to do that weekend.

Double rooms are still available.
You have to ask for a 3 person room to get 2 double beds, and the price is $155, but they are available.

Book now.

Now, who needs a roommate?
Because I now have a room with 2 double beds.

Not really sure if I should post this, but here goes.

My friend who works for the San Diego Repertory Theatre is in town right now doing auditions, and the artistic staff is all staying at the Penn. Last night she spent hours on the phone re-working their hotel arrangements because it turns out there were gnats in several of the rooms. One of them pitched a fit at the front desk and they moved him to the penthouse suite.

1) I have a sneaky suspicion that most of the complaints were from the usual prima donna types that make up your standard theatre artistic staff, and gnats might have been diva code for "low thread count."

2) I have seen the Penn many times, it is a fine hotel, and unless you're ready for the NYC $1500/night room rate rim job, you won't find a better deal. Your odds of getting a gnat-infested room are no better at the Plaza or the Waldorf.

3) Please don't freak out if you've already made reservations, and don't feel compelled to look elsewhere just because I reported this. If there's a problem with your room, tell the hotel staff immediately and I'm sure they will accomodate you.

Thanks for the room report, Joe... my main issue with the Penn right now is trying to get them to get their <expletive> straight when it comes to "doubles" vs "triples" (as earlier reported by johnny5). Rose is calling them right now to try and straighten things out.

ROOM RESERVATION ISSUES

I spoke with a few people at the Hotel Penn

We finally found out the problem is a disconnect between the reservations staff and the group sales staff.
Because of this, people who tried to reserve a room with two beds were told by reservations either:a) there were only rooms with one bed or b) the rooms with two beds were only for groups of three or more. NIETHER OF THESE ARE TRUE! WE HAVE OPEN AT LEAST 5 ROOMS WITH TWO DOUBLE BEDS. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE A PARTY OF THREE OR MORE TO GET THEM.

We can't work this out with the Reservations Manager until Monday as she was gone for the weekend by the time I got home.

In the meantime, if you want to reserve a room with two beds send an email to our group sales representative:
sshahSPLAThotelpenn.com

In the email include your name, contact information, arrival date, departure date and credit card information (type of card, number and expiration date). She will forward the emails to the reservations manager on Monday morning and the reservations manager will have to input them by hand herself. Even if you have had an issue with reservations, send it to SShah so she can see what has been happening.

Needless to say I am really pissed off about this and I intend to get it fixed and to see we are compensated in some way for the big pain in the ass this has been.

I guess now is a good time to read the wiki and find out where everyone will be... Now I just need to stalk Sin or Rob and try to steal their cellphone numbers to make sure I can find you all!

I've given all of my contact info to Diandra, anyone who wants it contact her, and if there's ever a problem with anything while you're in the city, I will be available 24/7. This includes directions (street and subway), restaurant recommendations, theatre/performance recommendations, etc.

Tickets booked, reservations made, we're arriving friday night at 10:15 at jfk. I've also booked us a room at the Hotel Penn.

My only question is, does anyone have another way to get to the hotel beside the private bus service, we'll be missing the last run to Penn station by about 20 minutes?
