QBKooky, I can help out, I think. I guess I'd just need to get up to speed!

Still need me? As far as I know, I am free either of those days to pursue crazy ARG stuff.

The stuff about being alone and not surveilled kinda makes me uneasy though. What if I wanted to bring someone with me for safety? Is that allowed, or does that "screw up" the game?

Stuff like that makes me twitch. It doesn't seem right to ask people to go it alone like that in a situation like this.

ETA: OK, so it doesn't say alone. But I just wonder if the in-game actor would flip out if they knew I came there with someone else, you know? Like, if they were waiting in a car, or something, nearby. I suppose that would be alright.

If any of y'all need cred from me, just let me know. I've been around the ARG block a coupla times ...

Okay, great. Here's the deal... to be honest we haven't had much plot-stuff lately, so there's not much to catch up on.

We are all "Operative" for Omnifam (omnifam.org) - your basic Salvation Army type organization, except from ALIAS we know it's owned by Arvin Sloane, who's basically a bad guy. He keeps converting to good-guy, but no one REALLY trusts him because he's always been suspected of having alterior motives and/or using unscrupulous methods to try to get things done. Anyways.

MethUSAlabs is a medical organization that, thanks to a grant, has some "miracle drug" that saved the life of a little girl named Hylie, who had some mysterious illness. http://forhylie.org/ has some stuff about her.

Anyways, here is the deal on the "datacard" we need delivered.

Quote:
Critical data has fallen into the hands of a former associate of Mr. Sloane's. It is stored on a small, portable datacard and must be securely retrieved. We have sent an agent to infiltrate and conduct surveillance on this associate for the purpose of retrieving the data. Her codename is Cinderella. Unfortunately, we have lost contact with this operative. She has missed two scheduled rendezvous so far.

So we were able to contact her, and several of us have gotten datacards in the mail. Others are sort of working on decoding some sort of Linux-y file on them... anyways. Here's the current mission.

Quote:
Operatives: Congratulations on successfully obtaining the datacard. I knew we could count on you. The card needs to be delivered to one of our associates in Chicago. We have him in deep cover at a biotech research facility. Contact him by email at h.meierSPLATmethusalabs.com. He is expecting an invitation to lunch from a "friend of Arvin's." He'll decline the lunch, but will then offer to meet and he will specify a time and location.

You must bring the datacard to the meeting wrapped in a local newspaper. He will also have a newspaper sitting next to him on a bench. After you make contact, he will leave with your newspaper. Remain seated for at least 10 minutes to divert attention away from any surveillance teams allowing him the opportunity to vacate the area safely.

This is VERY IMPORTANT. If he detects any surveillance and is unsuccessful in his counter-surveillance measures, he will destroy the card to preserve his cover and the mission will be considered a failure.

So... that's about as much as I know... any questions? Several of us have been emailing h.meierSPLATmethusalabs.com trying to set up a rendevouz.

Hi,

I'm afraid that I'm quite busy right now at the lab so I'll have to decline the invitation to lunch. I'll be able to make some time during my next trip to Chicago on the weekend of July 2nd/3rd. Let me know if you can make it and I'll let you know where we can meet. I expect you'll have something for me.

H

I've just emailed him and told him I can't make those dates, but have friends who are interested in meeting with him and am working on finding one who is avaliable. Smile

Any questions? Other players (cough hint hint) should fill in the plot-speculation points that I may have missed... we're still, on a whole, not quite sure of the importance of MethUSAlabs or the Hylie stuff.... *raises eyebrow*.

It talks about meeting on a bench, so I figure it's probably some public park or something, which would have other people around and thus be pretty safe. Have your buddy go along with you, but be set back somewhere in the distance where s/he can watch without being obvious. Give him a newspaper (for cover) and a cell phone (in case you're still worried). Oh, and a pistol with a silencer. JOKING! Just joking!

Anyway, I'm glad you're willing to do this, and I'd be up to sending my datacard if needed. Although, I think this mission doesn't need to be done for EVERY one of us, just once would be enough I think. Thanks!

Actually if you *could* send your datacard, that'd be nice... only because I'm kinda busy with the whole leaving-the-coutry-in-two-days thing. Rolling Eyes Razz

Yeah, can you imagine me laying down a newspaper, and hearing the clatter of 20 datacards hitting the pavement?

"oopsie! Hee, I never knew the Best Buy and Target ad inserts were getting so high tech!! HahaahahahahahahaQ!"

Laughing That would be awesome! No, I was thinking more along the lines of you being kind of the representative of everyone. As in, everyone that got a datacard can e-mail h.meier and set up the appointment, but ask if they can send their associate in their place (which is what I did). If that's alright, then hopefully it can all just be one datacard, one meeting, boom, done. I still haven't gotten a reply yet, though...

Soph - I got the same mail as everyone else - to meet in Chicago. Seems there is only one meet up for this mission. Which is good, cause I wouldn't really wanna go!

Fingers crossed that you get your datacard! Very Happy

Meeting information

I have the information for the meet, but I don't have the datacard yet. If you're in Chicago, Villa Park actually, and can meet the contact on July 2 at 4pm, and have the data card, please see below:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Wonderful. I'm looking forward to meeting with you and/or your associate. I'll be staying in Villa Park in an attempt to avoid the Taste crowds and traffic this year. I assume you're somewhat familiar with that area? We can meet on July 2nd, at Willowbrook Park at 4pm.

H

I've responded to find out how to identify him and will post with his response.

If someone sends me a datacard, I'm on it.

I noticed the Joey's pizza forum has someone going to the meeting, I am sure the SD-1 board probably does too. What happens if 4 or 5 people show up to this "meeting"?

You all fight over who can get to h.meier first.... krystyn, your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to TACKLE the guy, THRUST your datacard-laden newspaper into his face, and GRAB his newspaper... then RUNNNNN! A lasso or net might be helpful in this. Anything you can do to distract the other operatives would be good....

No i'm just kidding.

Actually this is interesting. Think about the structure of the mission. If you leave your newspaper with a datacard and take his paper... what's to say somebody else couldn't do the same thing? You'd get someone else's datacard.

The only other thing that's been bugging me is that none of us have figured out what's ON the datacard... what if we all have different ones, and the mission is a way of circulating them? *wild specs through the roof* Shocked Razz
