You will find many spirited debates in the Meta section where you can start. ARGs don't necessarily have to have puzzles, really. Sometimes the puzzle is the story itself. Look at the movie Memento.

Go poke around on the board in the Meta section and read a few of those threads to get a feel for what people are looking for. Smile

First, don't do the whole ROT-help-us thing.. it's a wannabe PM's cliche and doesn't add any value to your request..

I'm not sure if you're new or not, but you must have at least played a previous ARG before attempting to do your own. Take a look at what's out there.. notice the various feedback past games have received.. check out the archives here..

Your request might be ignored if you don't specify what you want exactly.. don't ask people to e-mail you with an open ended request.. are you looking for puzzles? story writers? recruiting characters? There's already a PM recruitment thread elsewhere if you need more people to help..

Finally, avoid the common pitfalls. I don't want to start another major discussion here so I'll speak for myself: I hate IRC character interactions, they seem childish. I hate puzzles that have been done before, let alone puzzles that have been done to death (like ROT!). I hate the use of free websites, especially blogs! Come on, everyone can think of a more creative idea than a blog which has also been done to death.

Have a clear goal in mind, ask yourself why you are doing this, then go for it.

Best of luck.

sorry for any offence

sorry for any offence. i have been reading about args for a while now. this is the first time i've posted. basically we just want to make a fun game that invloves less cryptology, we were just looking for advice and help from more experienced players.

to be honest we would like to avoid putting any cryptology puzzles in and concentrate on other aspects of immersion instead, (not reallly using irc at all, but using newspapers more)

anyway, sorry for being annoying in our enthusiam.

Please don't feel bad or apologize for anything nobody was offended. I'm sure you can make great games without any puzzles and any kind of immersion you want, even IRC. Many people will actually enjoy that. You'll always have an audience here no matter what you do.. so go for it and don't worry too much about 'the rules'..

If you have any specific questions we'll be more than happy to answer them Smile

In case this puzzle was a BIT to difficult for you....

We know that this is a simple puzzle for you, but we need your help. We are a group of students from the uk who would like to make a grassroots arg. We would like to involve the casual player more and rely less on cryptology. We want to use more sound, video and image files as clues or puzzles, however we do not want to alienate any core arg players All advice welcome Contact dragonsdenSPLAToutgun.com Thanks dragonsden

I'm in! I've not heard of outgun. Is is IG or a simple mail provider? I think the latter, but just wanted to check.
