Video Games Concerts! Okay people, round three!
As pointed out by Cather in the last page, VGL is kicking off again.
There is also another concert tour beginning in May, called the PLAY symphony. See the last page for more info!
I'm going to PLAY and I'd love ot see chicago peoples there!
Original post follows:
I know the Dear Friends concert got somewhat lackluster appeal here, but just so you game fans are aware, the Video Games Live concert tour is kicking off in early July and will be making its way around the states. THis is a full orchestral performance of many classic and modern game tunes. Dear Friends was awesome, but it was restricted to Final Fantasy. This concert will have music stretching from Castlevania to HALO.
Created by industry leaders Tommy Tallerico(Advent Rising) and Jack Wall(Myst 4), this tour has just put up its initial list of tour dates.
See the website here at http://www.videogameslive.com
Keep your eyes peeled around July 6th, so we can get the reviews out of the debut in LA, and know better what kind of experience awaits us.
CHICAGO!
This tour will be in chicago on saturday, august 27th. You can bet I will be there, and if anybody is interested, I have compiled a lot of pertinent data and links into a thread on the videogameslive.com board. http://videogameslive.com/board/index.php?showtopic=69 Chicago people, tickets are on sale this friday, June 24th!
If chicago people are interested, feel free to contact me and I can help bring you up to speed or try to make plans for my personal group inclusive with yours.

Gah.
This better make it to DC. Or, ya know, somewhere within driving distance. Like Baltimore. Or even Philly.
But yes, I'm am very much looking forward to this, since Dear Friends doesn't seem to want to play anywhere but in Cali. (Bastards.)

Aw geez!
It's gonna be in Detroit the day after the Puffy concert in Chicago?
I want to make both, but I have no idea how.

I will definitely have to get a couple of friends together and take a trip up to Chicago for this one!

Right on.
This is an open-air pavilion, and its not entirely clear whether it will be open-ground seating or what, so I would advise against waiting until august to buy your tickets. You dont want to be in the Parking Lot seats.

INCyr, I think you're in luck... it looks like Bristow, VA is slated for August 19th. I'm seriously considering going to the Toronto showing on the 17th if I can scrape a couple of days off work.
-- Steve's intrigued by the show's idea, but is a bit leery of the "live reenactment" parts.

I am also leery of the live stuff...and knowing the kind of flair Tommy Tallarico likes to have, I'm not surprised, but the guys behind it keep assuring us that it is not hokey, and that when you see if, you'll appreciate it...
one way or another, we'll know come July 6th.

I feel bad about missing Dear Friends- I am a big fan of Nobuo Uematsu.
FF music has always been my favorite- I don't really know if something like the Halo theme lends itself well to live performance.

Many people would say the same about any music you play for them from Final Fantasy 1, 2, 3...4..5....
Its all a matter of how skillfully it gets arranged.
Personally, I am going for one song, and one song only: the theme from Headhunter.
Everything else is just bonus awesomeness to me, in which case, Castlevania performed live is an awesome bonus;)

I don't know if the Halo main theme will work well in a live performance, but the choral bit certainly could. (They do have a choir. Check the web site.)
I put down a few suggestions when signing up for their newsletter, including good ol' Moon Patrol. However, I forgot to put down Marathon.
-- Steve thinks it'd be cool if they fired up the Halo choral intro, and then Steve Vai slid on stage...

Unfortuantely I have a prior engagement on the 19th. So the show in NJ it is... fortunately I can stay at my parents place up there.
I'm looking forward to it.

Tommy Tallerico is Satan incarnate and the opposite of infallible.
Just so everyone is aware.
