So, you are hereby cordially invited to:

Saturday, July 23, 2005 at the Hotel Penn

featuring the creators of Audi's innovative and groundbreaking campaign THE ART OF THE HEIST in a panel discussion of the campaign and alternate reality games.

Tentatively scheduled to attend are:

Steve Wax, Chelsea Pictures
Brian Clark, GMD Studios
Mike Monello, Haxan Films
Brian Cain, Haxan Films
Matt Fischvogt, McKinney-Silver
Jim Gunshanan, freelance writer
Dave Szulborski, ARG author and game designer

This event is being held as part of the ARG Fest NYC 2005 from 11 am to 1 pm, Saturday, July 23, 2005 at:

The Hotel Penn
401 Seventh Avenue (at 33rd St.), New York, N.Y., 10001-2062

For more information or to confirm your attendance, email artofthegameSPLATdaveszulborski.com or go to www.immersivegaming.com/argfest.html. You can even download and print out your own invitation / flyer from that page to help promote this event.

I hope to see you all there. BTW, I'm already getting email from Marketing and Entertainment companies about possibly attending this event, so let me know asap if you plan on attending so I can try and make sure we accomodate as many people as we can.

HOTEL PENN ROOM UPDATE

Some people have reported that the reservation agents at the Hotel Penn have told them that there are no more double rooms available for our group - UNFICTION

This is not true!

We have 6 Double Rooms still reserved for us for the nights of July 22 and July 23.

If you have a problem getting one LET ME KNOW. PM ME HERE

---

by the way Dorkmaster - yes you are still getting a T-shirt. They haven't been printed yet.

OK, so here's the latest scoop (unless rose and bags get it straightened out) -

When calling requesting a "double" room - i.e. two beds vice one king size bed - tell them you have THREE people - even if you DON'T. As Space has said "what are they gonna do, count you?". As of this time, this is the ONLY way to get a "double", according to ALL THREE people I've talked to at the Penn.

Good luck, and see ya there!

OK - this isn't a good idea only because we will work it out on Monday and... the triple rooms cost more per night.

Any updates on the wiki schedule? I'm trying to plan what we're doing, and when. Smile

ARGFEST DEADLINE

quick update:

1. The reservation problem with the Hotel Penn should be sorted out. But we only have 3 double rooms left, and they are going fast. The Hotel is sold out for the weekend, so if you want a room there you need to book it...BY TELEPHONE...if you have a problem ask to speak to Alice, the reservations manager.

2. Just waiting for one confirmation in order to finalize the schedule. I haven't been able to keep an eye on the wiki, so anyone who wants to volunteer to help keep that updated, I would really appreciate it.

3. THE FINAL SCHEDULE WILL BE POSTED ON FRIDAY NIGHT. IF ANYONE HAS ANYTHING THEY WANT ON THE SCHEDULE THEY NEED TO PM ME HERE BEFORE 6:00 PM EST ON FRIDAY.

4. We are having such a huge amount of interest that we may move to a larger conference room at the hotel!! But note, that Dave is asking for RSVP to his talk so please follow his instructions.

I think, and others agree, that the next ARGFest will be a true "conference" . Right now, we are in the in-between stage.... Personally, I think this is all a really great sign for our genre.

5. PLEASE let Diandra know if you are coming to ARGFest and your contact information. PM her at the unfiction board. We have a good reason for needing this stuff, which will soon become clear. Smile

ARGFest is going to be amazing and I hope everyone can make it.

Ya know, I think I stumbled upon a good idea. I'm going to bring my collection of swag from various games. I hadn't realized that it amounted to a nice little display.

So, announcing:

The Travelling SWARG Show!

ARGFEST SCHEDULE UPDATED!!!

Here it is folks:

Before Dinner:

* Check in on arrival. Note: the Hotel Penn Check-in line is a major pain that we can't avoid but can minimize. I have a couple of high school kids who are willing to be there to wait in the line, read a book while they wait and then call the person checking in when they get close to the front. We need to coordinate this, but it should work.

* Sightseeing on your own. The Empire State Building is just down the street. I tried to get a time for us to go as a group, but it didn't work because the lines are unpredictable. If you want to go, you can call ahead and check the wait time. (dang I will add the number when I get back from a meeting.) You can buy tickets online to avoid the wait in the ticket line. There are three lines: security, tickets and the elevator.

http://www.esbnyc.com/tourism/tourism_visitorinfo.cfm?CFID=12575257&CFTOKEN=78363064

they have webcams but you have to create and account to login

*Metropolitan Museum of Art- my offer of a tour and lunch still stands. Smile Admission =$1.00 despite what the signs say.

Friday evening

6:30 meet in Hotel Penn Lobby near inside Coffee Shop - place with a few tables outfront

Walk to Dinner

7:00 Dinner - right now we have a reservation for 20 people but we can increase that up until the Monday before ARGFest. The place we found - through diligent effort -has good food and is inexpensive and near the Hotel.

Market Cafe
(212) 967-3892
(212) 564-7350
(212) 967-4092 (Fax)
496 9th Ave
New York, NY 10018

~9:00 Return to Hotel, perhaps find some sightseeing along the way

~10:00 - 1:00am Hotel Bar Joe's at the Hotel Penn

We are basically taking over the Hotel Bar. We hope to work a way for Will Star to play for us there and karoke as well. We decided this is a good location for us to meet and have fun informally with the added benefit of no cost for the venue! They have drinks of course and bar food and people under 21 are welcomed. Another spot that meets our criteria. And we may be the first ever DJ- Karoke party. Who said we don't know how to create our own way of fun.

~1:00am on - up to you the Bar is open until 4:00am. Just remember that Saturday is a jam-packed day of fest fun so get your beauty sleep. Smile

Saturday

Guess what? We are moving to a larger conference room so I don't have the name yet, but I will know which one we have later this week.

9:30- 10:45: Mind Candy Presentation (more info to follow but somehow I think this will have something about Perplex City in it. Smile )

11:00- 1:00: Dave Szulborski's and the Art of the Heist presentation

1:00-1:30: Lunch -grab a quick one and bring a snack and some water if you want. We can't provide lunch at a reasonable cost at the Hotel Penn due to their strict Union Policy. We can't just order a bunch of Chinese food or something like that without violating policy.

1:30- 2:00: Grassroots panel discussion

Metacortechs - A Large Scale Game on a Grassroots Budget

Panel: Brooke Thompson, Krystyn Wells, Sean Stacey, Steve Peters
Topic of discussion: How we did it

2:00-3:00 THE FIRST ANNUAL ARGFEST REALLY FUN AND NOT REMOTELY EVER BORING PRESENTATION: Our Fabulous Guest of Honor Jane McGonigal will talk about...

THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS AN ARG.

see description below

After 3:00-BE SURE YOU ARE THERE AS SOMETHING WILL HAPPEN ...... then we have dinner at an undisclosed location. And then some more stuff.....

Sunday
Brunch:
11:30 -1:00 (location to coincide with the walking tour led by joebrent)

1:00 Walking tour - see description below.
This is going to be great, planning it is a blast and I hope to see everyone there!!

ARGfest - Link to theater Tickets

I know some people will want to see a play while they are in New York.

The best way that I have found to get tickets, other than knowing Joebrent, is www.playbill.com

If you register you can access some really great discounts.
