I tried this game on my lunch break today at the friendly neighborhood EB.

While experimenting with controls, I managed to crash my ship and die in one of the opening cinema scenes.

Doesn't bode well.

Well, the community reviews for it at Gamespot are actually very good, an 8.1 as of now. With school being out n all so I could really focus on teh contest, I might just make a go at it.

Yup, I did the same thing... I didn't realize that the right thumbstick controlled anything, and I'm thinking, "That's odd that you can use boosters but can't steer... Oh well, must just be a slightly interactive opening sceOHMYGODIJUSTKILLEDUSALL!" Other than that, it's been pretty fun. I bought it totally on impluse, but the clerk at EBX was raving about it and telling us all about the cool moves you can do as you progress. The contest might be interesting, too...

Don't they get paid to do that?

The stuff that I've seen hasn't been ugly, just haphazard and unpolished. I guess that's okay for a first-time developer.

You have chosen the wrong Majesco game. The correct answer is Psychonauts. Psychonauts.

Ok, an update on this game.

I rented this game and I believe I'm about 1/2 way to finish it. I have mixed fellings ...

It's epic, has a good story, lot's of "wooaa, cool" moments, nice gameplay, and has a halo feel to it! The alien design, their "warthog" vehicle, checkpoint handling all reminds of halo! The game plays like a movie and has a lot more cinematics than Halo1 or 2 and I just love some of the scripted events and dialogs! The powers you have remind me of the first time I played Jedi Knight II on a PC! Stealing a weapon from an enemy's hand is just awesome! It's damn cool to shoot people and use cool powers at the same time! It's pretty well implemented and it's instant satisfaction! It might get repetitive as the games progresses.

But this is a classic example of a rough, unpolished game! I can't help it but keep wondering how good it would be if it was as polished as halo!! Frame rate is the worst part. I've never had games stuttering to less than 10fps, with even the sounds stuttering! At least it doesn't affect gameplay much, since you have the flick targetting system, which works pretty well. Well, it works well, but it causes the camera to rotate VERY fast on some heated battles, giving me motion sickness, just like Mrs Waters gets from Halo!

Besides frame rate, the game could improve on the graphics and animation department. Again, if it had some halo treatment, it would be much better! Character design is a weak point too. I know the games has a unique style, but characters are just too bright colored and it's hard to see what you're shooting at, most of the time.

All in all, I think it's a good/average game that could've been great! If you can look past the problems, you find a pretty damn good game concept! I'm enjoying it! I can only hope they can complete the trilogy and the next games are a lot more refined than this one. I don't know the whole story, but the developers went through a lot of stuff to get this game done, so I feel bad for them everytime I look at the reviews ... Innovative and unique games like this don't come every day!
