[Update] Scarlett Kite - June 24 - Radio

The Sentinel follows my lead!
Category: radio, 09:13 PM
Just heard from the lovely people at Mind Candy that Michiko Clark - the editor of the Sentinel, and the very person who once turned me down for a job - is going to be interviewed on Talksport radio like I was! It's going to be at roughly the same time - around 3am this coming Monday. So exciting! I'm a trendsetter!

Bloody hell, another late night. Why do these people think that we want to be up at 3am. We would far rather they did it on some local radio station that recorded the programs for us. Or broadcast in the middle of the day. Mind candy seem not to care what we think, about our convenience, or our enjoyment. It seems to me that they are not thinking about their game. They plan to advertise on the tube, a service primarily used by business people, exactly the sort of person who won't want to be up at 3am. Similarly, they advertised in things like Firebox, a catalogue aimed at many age groups, including the teen and tweenagers, people who SHOULDN'T be up at 3am on any night. They produce a "Trading Card Game" which is played by young people as well as adults. What really annoys me is that they are a UK based company, if they were based in the USA or similar, and were broadcasting on a US radio station, it would be understandable, but as it is, it seems like they were just trying to save on costs.
I deserve all of these:

Then again, look at it from the POV of the radio stations; 'Hi, I'm from an alternate reality or something and I'd like to do an interview on your station to promote my esoteric game about finding my cube'
Yeah, they're really gonna put that on at 8.15am.....

Stop moaning for god's sake! This way it's broadcast nationally on the radio and internationally on the internet (I don't know how much you know about radio but most local stations don't even have internet feeds) on a major station which still gets around 2 million listeners even at 3am. No station, local or otherwise, would broadcast a 15 minute interview (I'm told it'll be that long this time) about a relatively obscure "computer game" at prime time if it had that big an audience.
More importantly, the people who listen to late night talk radio in this country are a mixture of nightshift workers and STUDENTS! who has more time to play ARGs than students?! probably 70% of the people on this board are students, so I'd say it's prime audience! I know when I was a student I reguarly whacked on the radio after a night out or a late essay-writing session, and if i heard something like this it would have grabbed my attention.
You're given a heads up each time by Scarlett so you can listen should you wish to stay up, but people like myself are more than willing to whack an mp3 on the board minutes after it's been broadcast. So what exactly is the problem?

Just spoke to my contact at talksport..
this is seriously going to be worth listening to!
he didn't give me any details but he said he's spoken to Michiko about the subjects that will be covered and it's going to be a far more in-depth piece than the Scarlett interview and will cover a lot of questions that have gone unanswered so far.
So it actually sounds like there will be new info coming out on this interview, and maybe even a few clues as to where the game is headed!
I can't wait now!! I'll whack an mp3 on here as soon as it's been broadcast.

Another reason its on at 3am is probably because thats when Talksport play anything that people pay them to play.

Salunkh, you're wrong I'm afraid- talksport have not been paid a penny to run any interviews about perplex city. In fact, they're rarely paid to run any interviews, unless they tie in with a sponsorship deal.

Right then- as promised, here's the mp3 of tonight's Mike Mendoza interview with Michiko Clark as broadcast at around 3.20 am on talkSPORT radio in the UK.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Some very interesting stuff in here, the most significant being the announcement of the death of Pietro Salk... also some good bits about cognitive enhancers near the end. But my favourite bit was Mendoza's flirting with Michiko! especially when he asked her if Perplexians make babies the same way we do!!! Hilarious stuff!

woohoo thanks DF
interesting bit: Michiko has a Canadian accent. well that's new. (yeah, could be American, but some bits every now and then sound just north of that, if you see what i mean)
she addresses this very thing, in fFact. just briefly. it's a Gladstone accent .. well, ok.

I find it very interesting when Michiko, who has an American accent, says she's from the Gladstone municipality. If I remember correctly, it was the Gladstone mayor who was "snubbed" and generally considered incompetent by the people of Perplex City. In Perplex City, does Gladstone = America and the mayor of Gladstone = George W? A somewhat veiled criticism maybe?
Or maybe I'm just reading a little too much into the parallels between Earth and Perplex City...
