I've managed to set myself a bit of a challenge when it comes to getting people involved. I'm planning on running an ARG / Puzzle Trail / Treasure Hunt esque thing (basically an ARG, but I don't want to scare people off!), on my university campus next year. Now, most of it is going to be IRL meets and such, however we need to get people online to start the thing off, give details (email address) and sign them up to my special forum.
There are hopefully, touch wood, going to be a number of trailheads - missing persons posters, mentions on Radio Warwick (RaW), and maybe mentions on the Top B (union event) Big TV screens during the night (although I was planning on using those to post clues DURING the game).
Now, the problem is noone's really going to be looking at these posters, so me and my group of PMs (henceforth known as the rabble), are planning on doing an overnight raid of the campus, putting posters up all over the university, in all the halls, and hopefully in as many 1st year's pidgeonholes as we can. The plan here being if it's EVERYWHERE then someone must go and have a look Smile

Any other suggestions on what to do to get people involved would be appreciated.

Jeb

Put up posters that refer to someone/thing from your college i.e. ginger gene, annoying professer etc. They have to hit your webpage for further info, your webpage has something on it that is about it, but the rest is all about the game. The game has to have a link to the posters, however...

Just IM spam everybody ... no wait ... jusk hkdl ... no .... O. MY. you've actually put thought into a quality launch that is interesting, different, and will catch people's attention while not costing an enourmous amount of money. Good show dear boy, good show!!!!

My only suggestion is to be sure you won't be violating any school rules or laws with your poster raid. If there are regulations regarding such things (as there was at my university) it was actually quite easy to get the permission to put them up, you just had to contact the right people. Those same people might have other suggestions on how to disseminate information quickly and effectively to the campus.

I've always enjoyed the idea of a random placement of posters / cards etc around the target area. Specifically easy for a university.

And the posters / cards / leaflets should be as random as possible. For example a tri-fold pamphlet with nothing on it except for a webaddress. A bunch of phone line poles with A2 posters on them that have parts of a URL on it - say, by the Uni carpark or somewhere else equally populated. Scattered randomly dropped business cards around Uni Cafe's / Library / Student Associations / Quadrangles / Classrooms, and tear-tab posters on noticeboards - all with a single line of text that says www.blahblahblah.com.

Intriguing, low cost, low time-wastage, maximum publicity to your area - but I agree with the above comments, definitely make sure that you don't contravene any uni by-laws, and ask permission at each place to make your drops.
