The overall story I want to start a thread which tries to piece together what the overall story was.
I'm not sure I have a very clear idea but I'll post my thoughts, then through a process of heaping scorn on my naivety, the truth might emerge.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Emile hated Virgil and decided that the best way to hurt him was through Nisha. So Emile hires Gunter to plan an art heist and makes sure that news of it leaks to LRR.
As the LRR investigation goes on, Emile ups the temperature with blackmail, goons and murder.
Emile tries to set-up Virgil as the evil mastermind behind all of this, primarily in the eyes of Nisha.
Emile succeeds in turning Nisha against Virgil and making Virgil look sad and deluded but appears to have confessed publicly to several murders.
Epilogue
Emile (and the goons) go to jail.
Virgil goes to the madhouse.
Nisha and Ian rekindle their love and get married in a castle in Austria with Will Star as bestman / DJ.
A problem with this account is that it leaves the whole 'art heist' storyline and associated SD card cracking as a bit of an irrelevance.
Thoughts?

But the goons did work for Virgil. They admitted it to Nisha and were present with Virgil in the one easteregg clip where they nabbed Ian in Virgil's house. But yeah, Emile must have some kind of beef.

From the latest press ...
Quote:
The Art of the Heist culminated last evening at Virgil Tatum's launch party for his new game, The Nisha Chronicles, Vol. 1, held at The Viceroy Hotel. There it was discovered that Virgil Tatum's business partner, Emile Smithson, was behind The Heist from the beginning. From Germany to New York, Chicago and Los Angeles, he orchestrated a series of manipulations and deceptions worthy of his best video game design -- all of it over the fame and millions he felt Virgil owed him years ago.

The Goons were working double time. Emile, fFor the big Ufizzi heist, hired them to do more or less miscellaneous tough-guy work. I don't think it's ever really clear what their jobs are in the heist.
However Virgil hired them to do a more pressing task of roughing up Ian. Hopefully eliminating him fFrom Nisha's life. This means Virgil isn't altogether innocent, as he did have a nasty little conspiracy going on.
Both emile and virgil knew of them as hired muscle. And both hired them, but fFor very different goals. Doing both tasks happens to be fFairly convenient fFor them, as they get to basically work with the same operation on both fFronts.

hmmm .. you may be on to a bit of something here. There is a sense of closure which is missing, and this could be it. All the characters are neatly tied up, but there is the whole heist thing itself which is entirely up in the air. What about all those people digging tunnels, and building supports, and a million dollar payroll of janitors, fForgers, movers ... I'm sure the police will round all the people up quickly, sure. but ... but ... but ... that's it? the end? c'mon! the whole uffizi thing was almost fFor nothing at all then? a giant red herring, with elements of plot draped around it? surely there is more!
Art of the Heist 2!!!

Hey - for all we know, the heist DID go ahead... Remember the idea was to sneak in, replace the paintings with forgeries and sneak out without anyone being any the wiser... Keep your eye out on eBay for suspect Caravaggios

Well, your twin GirlInFocus could always play. She doesn't get nearly the attention her older sister does

HHM,
That is so cool that you were able to play such a big part in the story.
And, just out of curiousity, what time did the finale (Virgil's talk, Ian's relase etc.) start? Unfortunately I had to bail out before the thrilling conclusion.
And since you have insider info, what was Todd's real name (the person who actually made the posts)? Was it Mike Monello? He was Charlie Tan on Steinitz and he was great.
Thanks

Near as I can tell, Todd wasn't one person probably. I think Mike and Brian did the majority of the writing.

From Todd's summary Todd's explanation of the Heist:
Quote:
Turns out Emile was the real genius behind all of TatumThink's early hit video games, and Virgil took all the credit while Emile labored behind the scenes, receiving none of the glory. The whole Uffizi plot was designed to be pinned on Virgil, as revenge for his past misdeeds. Emile had been planning the whole thing for probably close to a year, most likely fueled by Virgil's decision to come out of retirement and reenter the gaming world. Emile's planning and dedication were meticulous, posing as French hacker CyberGosse for months to befriend Ian and get inside information about Last Resort Retrieval's operations.
TatumThink's "Lead Game Designer" also must have spent quite a bit of money on his endeavor -- documents uncovered from SD card 6 reveal the total projected cost of the operation to be $1,291,300! Of course, that's the total cost if the operation were carried out from start to finish...which, of course, it wasn't, thanks to the help of the many dedicated and brilliant Retrievers out there! Whether boarding a boat with Nisha to confront crazed killer Gunter Banderwine, or tirelessly cracking the codes on the SD cards to reveal the smoking guns, it was ALL YOU out there who really put the bad guys away!
