[OT] "The Island" - Movie Alrighty folks,
Has anyone seen the trailers or the like for the upcoming movie "the island". Check it our here .
It looks distrubingly similar to Logans Run.

We had the tv on today with no sound, I ended up turning to a short special on E! or whatever about The Island, and until it said "The Island" I thought I was watching Logan's Run.
I think Michael Bay got whiff of Logan's Run remake and decided to beat it to the punch.
I mean, come on, "Jordan 6-echo" is a main character.

What's the deal with that girl calling herself Scarlette Johanson? That always bothers me... there's no way it's a real name.

This movie reminds me of a Matrix meets Logan's run. There's actually a possible ARG since no one else has seemed to mention it here...

Seems interesting

Movie based sites have been cropping up all over the place in the past few years, many have puzzles associated with them (gives the fans something to click and discover on the website).
But there is a difference between movie promotional websites and ARG (but imbri or phaedra or addlepated or others are much better at explaining the difference between ARG and promotional games).

Well this topic sure did get a lot of attention. Well, Im a little lazy, but the whole thing with this movie "The Island", you cant say it is a lot like Logan's Run. If it were, the people who have the rights to the franchise would sue the pants off of these guys. Its a lot of Legal stuff, but thats the basic jist of it.

That depends on what the arrangements between the makers of the movie and the owners of the book's copyright were.
I assume, of course, that there was a book. But it's quite possible for more than one party to adapt a book to film. Generally not at the same time, but the movie was from what, the 70s?
I'm not saying it is based on the same source material, just that such a think is legally possible.

Nah, I'm pretty sure we're just waiting now.
That is, unless someone can find a meaning for "this baby"

To be honest, The Island sounds more like a remake of the 1979 scifi/horror movie Parts: The Clonus Horror
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
(copied from http://www.mondo-digital.com/clonus.html )
In an idyllic land called Clonus, all of the happy young people spend their days undergoing athletic training, running relays, and celebrating every time one of their fold is taken by their leader, Dr. Jameson (Bewitched's Sargent), to go off to the mysterious and wonderful land of America. However, as we soon see, the lucky chosen few don't actually get to make that trip; instead they're gassed, filled with chemicals while unconscious on an operating table, and stuffed into body bags in a secret storage area inside a research facility. One of the clones bound for America, Richard (Donnelly), becomes concerned when he finds a mysterious Old Milwaukee beer can and asks the good doctor about it. When the answer proves unconvincing, Richard does a little snooping with the aid of his beautiful girlfriend, Lena (Breen), and discovers the horrible truth: everyone there is a clone being cultivated for a sinister purpose involving politicians outside in the real world. After escaping from Clonus and running through the desert, Richard finds the world outside is very different from what he imagined and his story less than believable.
