I've been trying to remember what it was that I saw that had "God" as a mysterious computer user. I thought it might have been a movie, but thinking about it more, I'm wondering if it's Ender's Game. Has anyone read this recently who can confirm - didn't Ender hack into the school computers and sign on as God?

God was the password for Margo(t) in Hackers, and the Plague referred to her by that when working from the mainframe.

As for Ender's game, not sure....my copy's back home. I know he hacked it to change who one of his messages was from to humiliate one of the boys, but I don't remember if he set up a 'God' account.

lazaruslong456: really, I'd heard you were pretty good
xover222: i was. i found a pattern to the drops. it was easy to solve from there.

xover222: time is all i have left

xover222: aggressive strategy
lazaruslong456: that works
lazaruslong456: are you familiar with this game http://www.chessgames.com/perl/chessgame?gid=1080495
xover222: no i do not study. jake was always studying.
lazaruslong456: did you play chess with jake?
xover222: lots
lazaruslong456: was he a good player?
xover222: he was 8 moves ahead of me
lazaruslong456: turgenev was a chess player, too
xover222: no turgenev did math
xover222: lots of numbers
lazaruslong456: really - I thought Ivan Turgenev was a chess player
xover222: he may have been but not this turgenev.
lazaruslong456: who is this turgenev? where is he from?
xover222: russia
xover222: they are turning off lights
lazaruslong456: you wouldn't happen to know his first name, would you?
xover222: i do not know it off the top of my head.
lazaruslong456: well, if they are closing up, you'd better get off the computer
xover222: good night
lazaruslong456: good night, reggie

So far I've been unable to confirm any russian mathematicians by the name of Turgenev. I was hoping to find something in his works that might lead us to a solve of the caretaker's code.

Further Spec: Reggie was a fellow student at NRU with Jake. He discovered something he wasn't supposed to, and has been locked up and drugged to prevent him from talking about it.

mos_eisley_bartendar: Precisely, that is. Where do they say they want to go?

mos_eisley_bartendar: Is that all they ever say?

From what I can tell, all of these Turgenev's are the same person. Ivan Turgenev was a poet, novelist, and famous chess player. You can find two of his recorded chess games here:

http://www.chessgames.com/perl/chessplayer?pid=79426

But I have yet to see anything about him being a renown mathematician. Maybe by knowing numbers, Reggie just meant he was good at chess...

Reggie and I didn't chat for long.

dashcat: Hello Reggie
xover222: hello. i was just going to bed.
dashcat: I don't want to keep you from sleeping
xover222: do not worry the voices do.
dashcat: Can I help you in any way? Can you help me?
xover222: i tried to help the smart people. i cannot help anymore than i have
xover222: i'm sorry
dashcat: That's ok Reggie
dashcat: But can you give me a clue to what this means? y"&,@l%\v;>!f)q$}i*t+#^/b -

- a?=s^-_\@d#&,o(._%g*@:"/c -

xover222: it means 2 things.
dashcat: I kind of figured that. Can you tell me more?
xover222: it is code. simple code but hard when you look at it too long. stare at it and you will not see anything like a schooner. it will just be code.
dashcat: Yes so far it does just look like code to me.
xover222: simple things lead to complicated answers sometimes.
dashcat: hehe. Tell me about it
xover222: i tweaked red knights cypher. he knows it now. he thinks you needed my help.
dashcat: We do need your help
xover222: you have as much as i can give
xover222: i cannot walk the gauntlet for you. you must find the key.
dashcat: Reggie, who is God?
xover222: god is god and he drives a Mercedes
xover222: goodnight

Here is the nearly complete text of my conversation with Reggie today.

Quote:

katya2032: Reggie, are you on your meds?
xover222: are you off your rocker?
katya2032: Have been for some time... were you on your meds when Red Knight came over earlier?
xover222: red knight comes as he pleases. he knows when god is here so he keeps me safe. you do not.
katya2032: Are you there?
xover222: i am here. where are you?
katya2032: I am elsewhere. I wish to help you. But my knowledge is thin and runs to other things. Perhaps you could help me understand.
xover222: he has given you the path. you simply stop to look at other things along the way.
katya2032: I give my trust willingly. I gave it to the serpent, but he betrayed me. I gave it to a diety, she deserved it. God is unworthy of my trust, so says you.
xover222: i do not trust my god.
katya2032: God betrayed you? Hurt you?
xover222: god does not like me hearing voices.
katya2032: Are perls in the picture?
xover222: no i am do not play hexic anymore.
xover222: i am playing scrabble
katya2032: Ahhhh... scrabble. I like scrabble too.
katya2032: Care for a game?
xover222: no my eyes are getting heavy.

xover222: i must go they have pudding on the cart tonight.
xover222: y[]><l""v/,$f$q@*i+t!&.\b
a][<>s&*+*#d)({o}:<@g@$\c

katya2032: Good night, then, Reggie. I hope to speak you tomorrow.
katya2032: Enjoy your pudding.
xover222: i goofed in my send for snack.
katya2032: How so?
xover222: a[<s&*+*#d)({o}:<@g:"@$\c
xover222: i hurry when i am hungry for pudding.
katya2032: Smile Please, go ahead and enjoy your pudding. I hope you have a restful evening.
xover222: okay.

I'm still thinking caretaker (Red Knight) is a figment of Reggie's imagination, or an alternate personality. When God is there, Red is there to help and protect Reggie, but we don't know how Red knows this (God's arrival) unless 1) Red is God's bodyguard, 2) Red is a guard at the hospital Reggie is at, or 3) Reggie's mind is splintered in two, Reggie and Red.

I IM'd with Reggie earlier and can only remember one thing he said.

Pinetrees smell nice.

I have no idea what this means, other than the obvious. I am not sure if he was just bouncing quotes off of me or what. We began conversing again, I set up a log, thankfully. That's all I have.

The "schooner" reference is from Mallrats, btw.

Perhaps it's time everyone stoped digging into reggie and looked into what we already have. Just seems like everyones kinda whining about not having enough information, when we've probably got more than enough to work with.

Will someone please compile all those bits of code we've been given and put them in one place.

A small contribution

I don't think it would be too big an assumption to slot "God" as the psychiatrist or program director at the hospital.

Xover222

When I started my computer this morning, I had a message that Xover222 had added me to his contact list. Asked me to accept or deny this. Thought it was interesting since yesterday he was blocking all those attempts.

Didn't know if it happened to anyone else.

Hey All,

i was on vacation for a week and i missed the start of this show! I am so mad! Now just trying to piece together what happened last week and put it in some logical order.

Anyways, no one has yet mentioned all of Reggies references to the song/musical 'Chess" by Murray Head. Specifically, the song "One Night in Bangkok"

Here are some quotes of Reggies YIM conversations:

"i do not see you guys waging the kind of mate he is contemplating."
"go back to your bars, your temples..."
"it is a drag. it is certainly a pity. you should be looking at the board not looking at the city "

Now, here are the lyrics from "One Night In Bangkok"

Bangkok, oriental setting
And the city don't know that the city is getting
The creme de la creme of the chess world
In a show with everything but Yul Brynner
Time flies, doesn't seem a minute
Since the Tirolean spa had the chess boys in it
All change, don't you know
That when you play at this level there's no ordinary venue
It's Iceland or the Philippines or Hastings
Or, or this place

One night in Bangkok and the world's your oyster
The bars are temples but the pearls ain't free
You'll find a God in every golden cloister
And if you're lucky then the God's a she
I can feel an angel sliding up to me

One town's very like another
When your head's down over your pieces, brother
(It's a drag, it's a bore, it's really such a pity)
(To be looking at the board, not looking at the city)
What d'ya mean
You seen one crowded, polluted, stinking town
(Tea, girls, warm and sweet, sweet)
(Some are set up in the Somerset Maugham suite)
Get Thai'd! You're talking to a tourist
Whose every move's among the purest
I get my kicks above the waistline, sunshine

One night in Bangkok makes a hard man humble
Not much between despair and ecstasy
One night in Bangkok and the tough guys tumble
Can't be too careful with your company
I can feel the devil walking next to me

Siam's gonna be the witness
To the ultimate test of cerebral fitness
This grips me more than would
A muddy old river or reclining Buddha
Thank God I'm only watching the game, controlling it
I don't see you guys rating
The kind of mate I'm contemplating
I'd let you watch, I would invite you
But the queens we use would not excite you
So you better go back to your bars, your temples
Your massage parlors

One night in Bangkok and the world's your oyster
The bars are temples but the pearls ain't free
You'll find a God in every golden cloister
A little flesh, a little history
I can feel an angel sliding up to me

One night in Bangkok makes a hard man humble
Not much between despair and ecstasy
One night in Bangkok and the tough guys tumble
Can't be too careful with your company
I can feel the devil walking next to me

Reggie also talks about things like "bald man", and the song references Yul Brenner. All in all, many similarities between the two. The one that stands out is CHESS. I am gonna get my hands on a copy of the cd from the London recording of the rock opera Chess to see if any other similarities jump out.
