At only 40 posts (as of the writing of this one) you have so far to go that you could never in your wildest dream post -whore enough to catch up with Phaedra & me, let alone, Krystyn...

If there are post whores, does that mean that there are post pimps, who start topics and then rent them out for whoring?

Hey, yeah! I should get at least SOME kind of credit for the 3,106 posts in the AOTH areas, right? Post pimp seems like the perfect title! Laughing

BTW: one more post to my pile, I'm getting the hang of this! Wink

w00t, Added to the Glossary (by me) and all! New Term & A NEw Way Of Life! All Posts in topics started by someone are attributable to them under the law of post pimping. So shall It be written, so shall it be done.

OMG, I feel totally responsible for this whole post-whoring blight that has appeared. I want to make it clear (honestly) that I am not a fan of, nor do I appreciate or find humorous, post-whoring. It's one thing if someone once in a great while double-posts, or whatever... but honestly, I really think we should avoid a "culture" of post-whoring=comedy/status.

I totally know that someone is going to read this and think "Wow, that's the most heavily-veiled post-whoring I've ever seen". And you'd be wrong. I'm completely 100% serious. I would not waste my precious time writing this, if I didn't mean it.

Point is, I value this community, and while sure, one hijacked thread once in a while doesn't do much damage, if it's a common practice, we lose people. We make the forums more crowded, more confusing, and less accessible to those who want to join up later. See what I mean?

Anyway, I apologize for my part in this. Sincerely, I do. Post-whoring is wrong, and I stand opposed to it. There's nothing wrong with being verbose. But one-word posts, saying "yeah" or "totally" or "sure" are typically "out-of-bounds" in my opinion.

Sorry to be all harsh and all, and I know I have no power here anyway, so feel free to ignore me at your own peril... but I would hope most would agree with me. Anyway, see y'all around, and have a great day everyone! Pony?!

true, but the sort of person who get's put off by too much posting isn't the sort of person you want to be working with in an ARG

I don't know, I'd prefer them over the type that adds more noise to obscure the signal. There's enough information to wade through as it is, why actively make it more difficult solely to add to your post count?

That's not to say that I'm against idle chat and getting to know you type threads... they're valuable in building a sense of community.

I didn't mean that people should be turned away, and spamming is good. What I meant was, ARGs are often about finding detail in white noise. If they get put off by something as small as too many posts, they probably won't be that much help. THAT BEING SAID, I do agree that there is too much post-whoring.

I agree. I mean, I am frequently guilty of thread-jacking, but when I brag about post-whoring, I'm kidding, okay?

In my own defense, I'd like to point out that while I enjoy playing around as much as anyone (and have, at least once, posted only a smiley face as a response Embarassed), the vast majority of my posts are substantive.

I guess I don't see anything wrong with socializing here, or with humor threads, etc., but in all seriousness I don't think we actually want to create a culture where post count is seen as a status symbol.
