[NEW OOG SITE?] Perplexed in L.A.

I'm fairly sure this guy has nothing to do with MC or anything else in-game, but it is interesting. Here is what appears to be a blog by some old private dick who, like the rest of us, is just searching for a mystery cube. I thought I was the only one in L.A. looking for it ... I wonder if he knows something I/we don't.

God, even his blog sounds like a film noir commentary. I can just hear the light Jazz

I dunno... I kinda admire him for not just playing the game, but playing into the game. Imagine if we glance his site one day and find that one of his, more or less in game (read in personal character), blog post gets a play along comment from one of the characters. It'd be off likely, but possible.

Additionally, what are the possible chances you guys think, that more earth characters may show up? Like a earth detective character taking it all to heart as real, as opposed to how we do, knowing (read assuming) that there is no actual communication going on with an other universe?

Till again,
Elsheran

Huh. Wouldn't that be something? I'm with you ... I sort of admire him (her?) for taking another approach. It's the nature of ARG's to invite different styles of play and this role-playing element is an interesting twist. While we like to solve puzzles as ourselves, there are other gamers who like to take on the lives of their own characters.

In a game where the biggest band is called "Roll for Damage", it may be rewarded. Who knows?

Cool, I wondered if anyone else had noticed this apart fom me (Lyle from the comments) and PFC. Peter Walker.

Concerning the Michael Smith link, I think this guy is genuinly one-of-us. I supose the tell-tale sign would for him to post in these forums - Michael wouldn't break The Rules TM , would he?

I'm pleased we got Jimmy on board, he's got a great way of looking at stuff, and I've offered to put him into contact with other players³ in LA, if anyones interested.

I found my password! Hooray!

I'm not Michael Smith, or anyone else for that matter (I was me the last time I checked), although I can understand the level of suspicion these days. I just wanna find the cube, like everyone else – I just happen to be really bad at the puzzle cards (although I can get 'em now, locally). So, I'm working this case my way, and if I can add anything to the communal speculations and theories, I will, you can be sure. I didn't necessarily intend on my blog being seen, and my goal isn't to draw focus away from the serious matters at hand, but if you're ever bored or want a brief diversion from deciphering, you know where to find me now.

PS: I wasn't sure what "ARGJack" meant, although coincidentally, my old partner was Jack Potter back in Chicago. He's not searching for this cube, too, is he?

Wow, I was just about ready to post my suspicions that Shamus was an in-game character. Well, there goes that idea.

Welcome to the team. Very Happy

Welcome aboard, Mr Leahy! Glad to have you (and Roxie - hiya Roxie!) with us!

The main reason why some people were suspicious is that some people who've tried to run ARGs break a corollary to the First Law of ARGing: "The Puppetmasters shall not visibly come out from behind the curtain until the game is concluded." (I.E, forums like this are supposed to be out-of-game, a place for players to discuss events and puzzles and how they relate to an ARG, and the Puppetmasters - the people running the ARG - are not supposed to make in-game posts in an out-of-game environment).

The First Law of ARGs is "Players shall not attempt to look behind the curtain" - that is, they're not supposed to try to go behind-the-scenes and spy on what the Puppetmasters are doing.

Also, in regards to the term "ARGJack" - it doesn't have anything to do with Jack Potter (and he may be involved in this case, but we just don't know it yet). Rather, it's an attempt by someone to divert attention away from a currently-running ARG in an attempt to draw attention to something of his own - it could be an ARG he's trying to get running, or something completely unrelated to ARGs. (Basically, he's trying to hijack the ARG, hence the term.)
