Chatlog: Caretaker chat session

Attached is the (abbreviated) chat log from our session with Caretaker... to be quite honest, it was very short and we're not sure how helpful. But there are some definite nuggets in there. For one, there will be a package drop in Chicago at some point. Very cool!

Not to diminish dishboy's log, I just find it easier to read this way:
Quote:
Caretaker: I expect there will be a few questions. I'll answer what I can
Sin_Vraal>how long do you have to chat with us, CT?
Caretaker: my time is short
aliendial: Did you have something specific to tell us?
Caretaker: I have a few things to communicate before I sign off
MosServ: To start off, who are you?
Caretaker: My foremost concern is Reggie
Caretaker: who am I?
Caretaker: I'm not at liberty to answer that directly
Caretaker: Reggie calls me Red Knight
Caretaker: For now, you can continue to refer to me as caretaker

MosServ: Why are you concerned about Reggie?
Caretaker: Reggie's state of mind has deteriorated significantly
MosServ: Why is Reggie significant?
Caretaker: He has very specific information that needs to be extracted
Caretaker: If Reggie loses it, we may not gain access to critical systems

MosServ: What kind of information?
Caretaker: I wish I knew exactly
Caretaker: He seems to have detailed information regarding New River U.
Caretaker: I was making progress, but recently, his reality seems to have shifted.
Caretaker: You have recently uncovered a number of documents.
Caretaker: They provide important historical perspective despite being heavily sanitized.

Magesteff: 1. I don't like making my moves while blindfolded. Even if you don't know specific names yet, how many operatives do you know or suspect we may come in contact with, and how many of them are the back rank rather than pawns?
Caretaker: Magesteff, no need to use the chess metaphor here
Caretaker: there are a number of interested parties
Caretaker: I am working on gaining access to the internal systems at NRU
Caretaker: to do so, Reggie needs to retain what little sanity he has left
Caretaker: tread lightly with him.

MidKnight978: we understand
Caretaker: I think Reggie can tell me how to get in.
Caretaker: I will be arranging a drop in the Chicago area for someone to pickup
Caretaker: This drop will contain the information necessary to penetrate NRU's security system
Caretaker: Once we are in, there a number of objectives that I'm not at liberty to reveal today.

MidKnight978: we will be ready for the drop
MidKnight978: please just let us know when and where

Caretaker: I need your assistance because my past prevents me from acting directly.
MidKnight978: then you shall have it sir
MosServ: How does Reggie come by the knowledge of NRU's critical systems?

Caretaker: He created them.
Caretaker: I don't know how Jake fits into all of this.
Caretaker: That needs to be discovered.

MosServ: So, he was a system administrator before he came to his current position?
Caretaker: I'm averse to the chess analogy for two reasons.
Caretaker: first, there is no black and white

MidKnight978: how would you define these groups of people sir?
Caretaker: second, the pieces with power are not obvious
MidKnight978: ok
MosServ: How are the files you have given us significant?

Caretaker: The current research at NRU has it's roots in the USSR
Caretaker: Sverdlovsk was the center

MosServ: How many different Governmental Surveillance Agencies and sponsoring Countries are involved?
Caretaker: I don't know how deep this goes
Caretaker: The explosion was unfortunate
Caretaker: the coverup using Anthrax was unforgivable

MosServ: Reggie talks about "Black Knight." Does such a figure exist, and if so, can you tell me about him?
Caretaker: I don't know who the black knight is
MosServ: Why should we trust you?
Caretaker: Do you have a choice?
MidKnight978: you make a point sir
MidKnight978: sir, where and when will this drop be so we can work with you further?

Caretaker: The drop is not ready. Until I find out how to get into NRU, I won't be able to place it.
MidKnight978: alright
MidKnight978: what do you believe you and this team have to gain by working together

Caretaker: I can't do this alone.
Caretaker: My traditional avenues of assistance are closed.

MidKnight978: I understand that, but i guess im asking what is so pertinent
Caretaker: Believe me, if I had the resources available that I could command 20 years ago, you'd never know I exist.
Sin_Vraal: To clarify - we're somewhat trepidacious about helping break into a school's computer systems who apparently have both international and military ties... we have a lot of risk - what is the benefit to yourself, us, and/or the world you are trying to achieve? Please elaborate, it will only help win us on board.
Caretaker: NRU has lofty goals that I believe are being subverted. I need proof.
Caretaker: Without hard evidence, the perceived benefits of SPECTRUM trump everything else.

Sin_Vraal: I believe I speak for the group that we *want* to believe in helping you, but we feel we need more information as to why it's so important and to whom.
Caretaker: Reggie is the key to obtaining the evidence.
Caretaker: Sin_Vraal, are you aware of the research being conducted? read the documents uncovered to date?

Sin_Vraal: Yes, I have. I guess I was hoping for some of the connections in between.
Caretaker: Make the connections for yourself. If I give it to you, you'll continue to question it.
Caretaker: You need to see first hand.

Sin_Vraal: I'll take you on your word for now, Caretaker - I want to believe.
Magesteff: Following up on the research
Magesteff: 11. Could or are any of the following SPECTRUM (or the US version) related
Magesteff: a.) Tunguska. June 30, 1908
Magesteff: b.) Norris Canyon Blowdown in Yellowstone National Forest 1984 This is a 22-mile swath of lodgepole pine blown down by wind-shear action in 1984.
Magesteff: c.)Mt. St. Helens, an otherwise quiet and DORMANT volcano suddenly springing to life. May 18, 1980 Eruption.
Magesteff: d.) The World Series Earthquake. October 17, 1989
Magesteff: e.) Three Mile Island. March 28, 1979
Magesteff: f.) Chernobyl. April 26, 1986
Magesteff: I have read the research, which leads me to think that these unexplained and unexpected events could be related

Caretaker: Magesteff, anything is possible, but I have no evidence linking those events to this research project at this time. I just don't know.
Caretaker: Reggie needs to be protected. Without him, the difficulty of our task is greatly magnified
Caretaker: I fear greatly for his safety and his wellbeing.

Sin_Vraal: You said we need to see first-hand. I hope you do give us the opportunity to do so before we break the ICE on NRU. There's none among us that I know who'd be unwilling to save the world.
Magesteff: You need our help, you are the one with the only answers we have, but you have given us precious little to explain why
MosServ: Protected from whom?
Sin_Vraal: Who or what are you afraid of with regards to Reggie, and in what timeframe?

Caretaker: We seek these answers together.
MidKnight978: Reggie has talked of the "grey" people today, are they the ones after him?
Caretaker: I haven't spoken to Reggie today.
MidKnight978: ok
Magesteff: Is there anyone in the NRU security office that you trust?

Caretaker: SPECTRUM is the key. Find the people behind SPECTRUM and you'll know what to do next.
Caretaker: I'll be in touch when I have the drop ready. Until then, learn what you can so that you can be prepared for action.

Does this seem directional at all?

Dr. Zeladzney = Dr. Turgenev, one of the scientists for SPECTRUM. The question becomes:

How do we get past the e-mail block to contact him.
Answer, Meg is back at school.

I think this is some great thinking here... Any contact so far?

NOTE: Added Turgenev = Zeladzney to QuickRef section.

Thanks MJ it is appreciated.

I tried both spellings that Drizjr pointed out for Dr. Z. Both bounced, "sobig virus" ack.

E-mailed Meghan that I needed to contact Dr. Z did she have an alternate contact for him due to the School E-mail being down. No answer so far, in last two? days (don't remember if I sent that Thursday or later).

Mephisto did use a quote from Ferris Bueller's day off. Maybe another clue to some purge file folders on the NRU servers? We have the Chess reference, Bangkok, and the other movie. Maybe we have missed some of the title/character combinations?
