[SOLVED] #059 Orange - Urban Myths

Plantext transcription and 60dpi scan:-

"You've probably heard of all these famous urban myths before but you might be surprised to discover that only one of them is true. which one?

1. Van Halen's standard performance contract contained a clause that asked for them to be provided with a bowl of M&Ms, but with all the brown ones removed.

2. Kevin's lovable yet geeky sidekick in TV's "The Wonder Years" was played by Marilyn Manson.

3. The athletic shoe Adidas gained its name from an acronym for 'All Day I Dream About Sex'.

4. The word 'posh' is an acronym for 'Port Out Starboard Home' which was printed on the first-class tickets issued by the Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Company.

5. In the 1960s the BBC was forced to take the children's TV show, Captain Pugwash, off the air due to the startling revelation that several of the characters has names that were less than wholesome.

6. The word 'golf' is an acronym formed from "gentlemen only; ladies forbidden.

7. The Great Wall Of China is the only man-made object visible from the moon.

8. The John Steinbeck novel The Grapes of Wrath was published in a Japanese translation with title The Angry Raisins."

Interesting factoid: Adidas is actually a short version of their founder's name. He was called Adolf Dassler, His friends called him Adi.

Actually, it's not true that POSH was ever printed on tickets at all - it's just one of those things that everybody knows is true that also happens to be complete elbows. There's no evidence that any tickets by any company were printed with POSH on.

Nobody knows where the word posh comes from...

um isnt that the whole point of the card? that all of them are urban myths apart from one which is true? which invariably isnt this one.

Rolling Eyes I know that - if you look above you see people think that POSH was written on tickets, just not from the P&O. That's not the false part, the whole thing is a myth.

Thats Correct, but also did you know his brother founded Puma?

Interesting, yes, but nothing to do with Perplexcity.
