[Update] New sentinel article July 25 Ascendancy Shamed

Quote:
Ascendancy Shamed
By GARIMA KING
Attendees at the Point Music Festival over the weekend suffered from sweltering heat in the most embarrassing so far of Ascendancy Point's infrastructure failures. "It must have been a full four degrees too hot," said music fan and festival attendee Scott Gambon, 53. "We didn't feel so much as a breeze [all night]. We think the air conditioning system was simply off-line during the festival."
Jules Northerlie, the Point's communications director, admitted that there were some environmental problems during the Point Music Festival, but that they have been overstated. "We agree that it is terrible that some of our patrons were a little uncomfortable during the festival, but let's put this matter into perspective. It's not like anybody suffered from heat stroke," she said.
Organisers of the festival declined to formally comment, but Gambon said that he complained after the event and was informed that the venue contract is being very carefully examined to see if the Point was in violation of its agreement. "I think all of us should get at least credit for some of the drinks we had to buy," said Gambon. "You never saw lines like at that bar Saturday night."
The humiliating climate control failure comes as no shock after recent revelations that Ascendancy Point is suffering massive problems with its environmental, security, and business systems. An anonymous source on the building's maintenance staff has indicated that the concert's climate control problems are linked to corruption in a database containing business data. "It's an outrage how poorly planned these systems are," said the source. "There's no such thing as a single bug in one system [in Ascendancy Point] because everything is so completely tied together."
These problems are rumoured to be under heavy investigation by the building management, who allegedly hope to repair the situation well ahead of Ascendancy Point's gala tenth anniversary celebration next month. The gala event is intended to kick off several months of publicity events, but the effect of several months of publicity disasters -- such as the music festival -- could seriously damage the building's reputation as the pinnacle of stylish living.

Futures
By Madame Bianca, for the week of July 25
The Half-filled Jug (July 11 - August 10)
Your usual panache is losing its gleam. Take an inventory of your personal flair and I bet you'll figure out how to recapture your magic. Here's a hint to get you started: Lose the blues, babe, no matter what it takes.
The Dragon (August 11 - September 10)
That's one fine losing streak you've got there, muffin. I think you must have set some kind of personal record. The good news is, you just may yet learn how to handle defeat graciously. Then again, knowing you, maybe not.
The Three Balls (September 11 - October 10)
I was out at the Mobius Strip last weekend on a wild goose chase for some restaurant a friend told me was oh-so-great, and stumbled across the perfect thing for you this week. Go check out the luck-inducing berry-custard special at Murphy's on the Strip. Your tongue can thank me later.
The Dice (October 11 - November 10)
Feeling a little nautical? Me, too. This is a good week to while away a few hours at the Marmalejo Boathouse looking at the pretty boats and the pretty, pretty crew teams.
The Maze (November 11 - December 10)
You need to get out of town and give yourself a little time and space to think. Alone, thanks very much. There have been some fast-paced developments in your personal life, and getting in touch with what you're really thinking will help you deal better.
The Apple-Thief (December 11 - January 10)
Glimmer, glitter, glow; do true truths thus show? Nay, pure truth in thought -- it hides and must be sought.
The Hand (January 11 - February 10)
You've been hitting Crispy Heaven a bit too much lately. Lucky for you there's an Apple-Thief right around the corner for you, just waiting to induce that infatuation weight loss. And not a moment too soon.
The Baby (February 11 - March 10)
I see some horrid bags under your eyes, and we both know you don't handle lack of sleep very well. I never thought I'd say this, but maybe getting a little more shut-eye is more important than keeping up with your hopping social calendar. Just, you know, for a little while.
The Eagle (March 11 - April 10)
I think it's high time you went out on a weeknight and did something a little crazy. Take your ex to a pick-up poker game. Try to get into the Neue Curiosity Shop. Whatever spins your wheel. Just, you know, something to show you remember how to be fun and impulsive like a normal human being.
The Spider (April 11 - May 10)
My, my, haven't we been busy? You just may be pulling yourself out of that messy web after all. If you keep up like this, you might lose your carefully-cultivated rep for youthfully indiscreet.
The Wave (May 11 - June 10)
This is an easy week to just bob along and see where you wind up. But I'll bet you ten lecks on the five that you'll reap bigger rewards by fighting the current and going where you choose to go instead.
The Archer (June 11 - July 10)
Melancholy days at hand, kitten? Sorry to say they'll last for a while, yet. Nothing you can do but try to wait out the storm and not get blown overboard.
And remember, that calm-before-the-storm bit? So not true.

Hmm I wonder if Ascendancy Point has been sabotaged

Oh, well boviously there's going to be a big gathering in AP, and suddenly the buildings computer system will develop an artificial intelligence and turn the whole building into an elabourate DeathMaze tm , and we'll get regular updates on the website of Scarlett or Violet, who've somehow got trapped in there, asking us to help them get past the traps the computer has set up, or figure out the password to disable it, or something like that... SO predictable. Laughing

I say, if that happens, we should give her the wrong answer, and let her DIE! Twisted Evil

On a cursory glance, my first feeling was that this was not so much indicative of *new* sabotage, as perhaps related to some overriding of the system that has gone before. All I'm saying at the moment is:

1. TA operated (for a time, at least - although I'd have scarpered by now if I was her) from Ascendancy Point

2. We know she was communicating with Pietro via secure channels over monetary matters etc.

3. The current corruption is said to be traceable to something relating to a business database.

4. If TA was 'with Comprendo' because that is the Ascendancy Point default operating system, then this may something that Comprendo would have to take an interest in

5. We have some plenty of hints that the Point is centrally regulated by various adjuncts of this system, and , clearly, something going wrong in one part of it is enough to inflict damage on the whole network.

So, putting the 'Conspiracy' hat on as ever, are we seeing the repercussions of something that TA introduced onto the system to cover her tracks? Is this, in fact, the 'Conspiracy' cleaning up after themselves?
Am I talking nonsense?

What really gets me is this:
Quote:
"There's no such thing as a SINGLE bug in one system [in Ascendancy Point] because everything is so completely tied together.
(caps mine) I could understand it if it said "there is no such thing as an isolated bug" or "there is not one bug" but the way it is written it sounds like it implies that there are several bugs compromising the whole system. [spec] If this is the case, it must have been a huge operation to sabotage it, infecting a single company's systems with multiple bugs simultaeniosly is a gargantuan task. This also implies that there was a reason for sabotaging it, someone had something to gain from the bugs. [/spec]

Just an FYI, the "Petel Speaks Out" article actually appeared a few days back - but no trout this time because it was never posted Smile

Boo freaking hoo!!! Suck it up!

If this place does turn into a "DeathMaze tm ", it better do more than cause slight discomfort.

Anybody else get the feeling that if all the systems are linked there will be a back door into the secure login we've been brooding over?

Just as a weird and wide speculation - could the cube be doing it?

On the brotherhood website they talk about the cube's destructive power

Quote:
* '''For does not the Cube show us the way in building, and was not Gyvann himself a builder and shall we not then build? Let us, therefore, build. And they built a great fortress, yet by the power of the Cube it was toppled to the ground, and they built a mighty tower, yet by the power of the Cube it was utterly removed, thus they built a lowly shack and it was good.'''
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
* '''And he said: reject, my children, those who call you to destroy, for only in the cube lies the power of destruction. And they asked: does not every man die in his season? And he said: only with the Cube's will.'''

Now if there is someone here that has the cube - i.e if the academy can contact folks why not the 'villains' have a contact on earth.

Therefore the cube is somewhere and in the hands of one that does not know how to use it and so destructive things happen. As it is 'linked' to Perplex City then it damages it.

'Destructive' could also mean 'destructive' thoughts - causing people to do wrong things.

Just had to get that one off my chest

[SPEC]

When was Ascendancy Point built? If the Cube is anti-tall buildings then perhaps either (i) those involved with AP would want to remove the Cube, or (b) its power might be causing these failures and eventually it might fall down.
