Rose, a Post-Fest Post-Mortem would be a great benefit to the organizers of future ARGFests, esp. since they now have HUGE SHOES to fill Smile

Speaking of which, I've decided that San Diego should NOT be the next place to host ARGFest, since I have NO desire to try and follow YOUR act Very Happy

It doesn't need to be anything spectacular or huge, just a "Lessons Learned" sort of thing would be FABOO.

Big thanks!

Now that I've slept off the weekend and have to confront "real reality" again, I wanted to tell everyone what a great time I had this weekend!

I repeated it over and over again, but I'll say it once here for the record - all of the organizers of ARGFest NYC 2005 went far above the call of duty to put together an incredible event. It was my first but will certainly not be my last.

Since I snapped enough photos for some in the crowd to mistake me for the press, I thought it important to share them all with you:

And for images of the FestQuest winning team, the aptly named "Green Team", go to this link...

My head is still spinning with ideas and alcohol withdrawal... Great to meet everyone in person and I'm already looking forward to another.

Feh. Just because the game was poorly executed doesn't mean we didn't still win Laughing

I've read lots of reports, saw lots of pics (thanks Mysteryjones, great job!), witnessed the saturday presentations "live", chatted with a lot of attendees and members of the organisational committee and all I can say is even though I did not attend, ARGfest sounded like a total success and a great three days.

I am truly sorry that I could not make it in the end, and am already looking forward to the next edition, kudos to everyone putting effort into ARGfest, great job!

Wow. That's all I can really say right now.

I'm still decompressing, I'll post in more detail tomorrow.

And yes, there are still some ARGFest T-shirts for sale. And yes, you will buy one. I'll have that set up in a few days.

Guys, I had a great time. I was so nervous and worried about meeting you all, but yanka kept me supplied with chilled beverages, which helped take off the edge every single danged night.

btw, it was me that called Giskard "sassypants." I took over xn's laptop when I was in the hotel room. MYSTERY SOLVED!!!

decompressing

ok, I think I need a couple more days to decompress...bagsbee using the seensteve drawing of Steve Peters as his avatar has scrambled my brain back to the fatigue induced incoherence of Sunday...

But I can't think about ARGFest at all without starting to smile and laugh- I am so happy that everyone was here. You guys are all so awesome. What a great time!

By the way, somehow we forgot to mention Aliendial's great M&M swag. Thanks for making those for us... can we get some more?
-----
Thoughts for future ARGFests:

1. The organizers --or at least one of them-- should stay in the hotel where the event is held. We needed a place to store stuff and the travel back and forth in taxis probably added up to be more than a room at the Penn would have cost for a night or two. Some kind of hospitality suite perhaps.

2. I didn't realize how many people were arriving early on Thursday and then leaving on Monday. If I had known that, I would have split the conference and the festquest into two days or morning/afternoon instead of having them both on the same day. During the early stages of planning, I thought everyone was leaving on Sunday!

3. Sponsors are reluctant to put money up front so you have to be able and willing to pay for everything out of your own pocket if they don't come through. We will be reimbursed by our very generous sponsors. But, throughout the course of planning this, we had to decide how much we could afford. We had to be sure we could cover the costs if at the end of the day no sponsors came forward. Both bagsbee and I advanced money - we can get into the details of the budget later if bagsbee agrees with that.

4. I may be able to help with getting sponsors in advance for the next ARGFest. I think we have established credibility for the event and for being frugal with sponsor's money. Many sponsors don't understand that we are a self-organizing conference with no budget. One group thought that we should just have the $2000 to pay for airfare for a non-essential person to be at the fest and the money to pay speakers an fee for presenting. They thought we looked like a committee of 20 with a budget of $20,000. Very Happy

5. We probably need to talk about the most effecient way to setup future ARGFests. I spoke to vpisteve about this a bit but I don't know if anything has been decided. We talked about a small steering commitee, maybe getting people to put in $ for meals when they arrive and then paying the food bills out of that, stuff like that. More on this later.

6. Maybe next week we can do a chat Post-mortem? I nominate someone else to be in charge of setting up what they think will work and then letting bags, joe and I know when and where to be...maybe space or steve?

another happy moment: Will Star telling me after the party... "I was feelin'it...I would do a party for you guys anytime."

How cool are we if someone as cool as Will gets us?

I miss you guys already!

Everyone's already said this, so there's no reason for me not to say it again - this was loud, hilarious, absolutely great fun for 4 days... or, rather, 4 nights non-stop. I fell a little bit in love with everyone, and I miss all of you guys already, and I wish so many more of you could have come!!! I am so very sad this is over, and I'll remember this trip for a long, long time.

Some random memories and favorite moments:

- calling Giskard the first night (yeah, there was the second night too, and he still didn't pick up!). I think it must have been around 2am, and we (though it was probably just me) were so drunk that we couldn't figure out what time it was over there, so we decided to keep calling every hour. Btw, I think I am in all 4 of those waves, but I cannot hear (or remember) anything I was saying!

- 6 drunk people having pizza on 8th and 34th at 4 in the morning.

- we're in Wishi's room, it's nearly 5am - Joe, Brooke, and Krystyn have to go back all the way to 181st street. Krystyn's asleep, and she refuses to get up. We try to reason with her, and pull her up, and reason some more (everyone had to be up at around 9), but nothing works. Until we utter "October 1st"!

- we're smoking outside the Korean restaurant when 2 tripped out guys start stirring shit with Joe. Joe's being extremely diplomatic, but I am freaking out nonetheless. And they WON'T go away! Out walks Jamesi, they stop in the middle of the sentence, give him this shocked look, and ask whether he's with us. He says "yeah", and they're gone within a minute. Jamesi, you rock!

- I don't even know how to describe this experience, but it involved the bathroom in Wishi's room, a door opened at a very inopportune time, and Joe's naked butt Shocked

- talking to ThaJinx on krystyn's phone in the middle of the night on Times Square about her naked fanboys.

- toasting to BriEnigma at... well, actually, we toasted to BriEnigma everywhere we drank, I think. All over town. Brian was probably the most toasted person at argfest (hee).

- LouMac singing at the Belgian bar - dude, what were you singing? I can't remember - I just vaguely recollect it being something very patriotic. This is a pre-singing photo: Marquis.

- doing shots to Project UM in the middle of the Pioneer bar with xnbomb and Wishi

- missing Omnie. At least 20 times. Though I only have 2 of them. Omnie, there were so many people missing you, and they all tried to climb the walls and each other to fit into the "missing Omnie" shot. They're all floating around somewhere (the photos, not the people).

- 5pm cosmopolitans at the Marquis!

- Fi and Wishi laughing their asses off as I yell at the crazy cab driver outside the hotel Penn.

- woo, more pizza on 8th and 34th at 4am!

- !amarettostraightup

- standing in front of the Plaza while waiting for everyone to gather for the MU meet. When everyone finally got there (*cough*), it was just about time to go back. So, we swung by the Whiskey Bar for refreshments, and krystyn gave us lollipops!

- Adrian falling asleep all over the Pioneer bar. Where are all of those photos?!

- mygod, the surreal night at the park in Washington Heights.

- smoking with Joe and imbri in Wishi's bathroom (btw, how do I end up with so many memories from Wishi's bathroom??). It's night, the lights are off, and you can hear the city through the open window. I'm sitting on the edge of the bathtub, listening to cabs driving by and to imbri talking about sexy hackers.

- Monday afternoon: we're sitting at a so-called-lunch in hotel Penn's restaurant - hungover and underslept. Being this delirious is the best time to read Ehsan's hilarious "Seen Steve?" credits.

- same time, same place. "This is your brain on ARGfest".

Thanks to everyone who made this possible - especially rose! I could not have had a better time. I heart New York, especially with ARGfest in it.

P.S. Anthrax is HOT!

Awww, wow. I can't seem to stop smiling. Mr. Green Mr. Green Mr. Green
Have I mentioned lately how much I love you guys? Man, I wish I could have been there. It sounds like such an incredible time! You guys are awesome.

Wait, Dave specifically told us that this was NOT a race or contest, that there was no prize for coming in first.
/me commends the Yellow team for following the rules! Razz

Now, on to my heartfelt emotions:

1) NY ARG planners - you guys rock!!! Every time I was asked "what are you doing in NY?" and I explained this gathering that started as a "meet and greet" and turned into a full-fledged "conference and drinkering fest", I just kept getting more and more amazed at the work you guys put into this before and during (yet still appeared to have as much fun as we did). Worshippy

2) I was NOT drunk, I just like dancing. Cool

3) There are tons of pictures, but I'm not sure where to put them for you all to view (I don't understand those online albums but maybe I'll figure them out or one of you in chat will help me out - after I've caught up on all the postings in here but before I tackle PC cards and Orbital Colony, I promise). Yes, there is one of Adrian taking his Pioneer Bar nap. Embarassed

4) Now I understand the official Wishi Bottle Opener and all the extra bottles Xnbomb showed me on Monday morning. Shocked

5) I can't sleep on airplanes. My feet hurt. My nose is a little sunburned. And my back is killing me (the backpack was strangly much heavier coming home). But I had a BLAST! Smile Wink

6) I am not too old to party until the wee hours of the morning. Rock On

7) I am much better at riding the subway by myself now. I only got lost once on Monday (for 15 minutes I couldn't figure out if I was on the C express or the C local trying to get to the Natural History Museum). Rolling Eyes

Cool ARG people are wonderful human beings from all walks of life, and all ages. Boy do most of us drink alot Wink

Cya in chat soon.
