Google needs a search option where you can have your "search term" be a picture instead of text - you know, match up certain pixel patterns with others. Seems like a good idea to me, and would certainly help with many of these cards. However, that would make a lot of them too easy and may be considered brute force. Oh well...

Blacklight?

During the NYC-ARGfest presentation by Mind Candy, Michael Smith mentioned something about looking at the cards at an angle or under a different light.
I don't know if that was a hint for any card in particular, but maybe it was.
Given the title of this card, has anyone tried looking at this card under different lighting, perhaps a black light?

Yeah, great idea, he definitely mentioned UV light, anyone with the card got one?

and "elucidate" means to cast light on -- so sounds like a good idea

I have just looked at the card under long-, medium- and short-wave UV light (which I have easy access to at work). There is nothing new visible on the card. I have also looked into my various previous suggestions - none of the scientific ones seem to be correct, therefore I am tending towards thinking it is a topological map of some kind. Not sure if it is Earth, the Moon or Mars. Given "Elucidate", it might be the Moon.

Your mention of the moon made me think of sunspots...I think I remember them travelling in bands across the sun. You'd have to turn the card landscapewise. Any sense in this? Someone with a bit of physics in them?

What flavour of lab rat are you Tomby? Smile

shed light on it

Hey Tomby. Thanks for doing that! I can only imagine the looks you got from your co-workers. Shocked
Ok, now everyone, how about infra red or night vision googles? Especially if the thing is shiny. Smile
Oh, and too bad we can't get a pic of it under different light, so that more eyes can take a gander.
(I know, I'm getting desperate. But I'm trying to rule things out in the meantime.)

ive been quietly looking at this card from the start, and I'm quite puzzled. I have not see that type of scan/shape/properties before. I think its something in a specialised field of physics/medicine/geology/science, and we are hardpressed to find exactly what it is until such an expert recognises it. OR.. we could look for a lot of different types of maps and hope to get lucky.

with that in mind, here are some pictures of the magnetic fields of sunspots as observed by spectroscopic analysis (1) and predicted by scientists (2)

1) magnetograms in a sunspot:

here

2) map of observed solar magnetic fields from the National Solar Observatory (top) correlates closely with a new NCAR model:

here
in general sunspot images (the ones ive seen atleast) look more like dark splotches or blobs on a white/yellow/green/red background (depending on the wavelength).

edit: i think it might be sonar topography of an area, either sea or land, or another planet. It seems like one of those elevation maps (which he have recently studied in physics with regards to electrics), with the highest elevation being the darkest splotches. The lines might be a clue as to the location, eg thunderstorms on jupiter or something arather.. no idea Laughing

ive got to go to class, but heres an idea of what i mean:

i still think the image looks very similar to pyramidal neural cells
but although i can find plenty if pictures of these cells they are photos using staining. i can find nothing with that strange grey scale.

EDIT -- now im less sure they are similar -- the neural cells would, i think, have more side branches - this is a pic of pyramidal cells

Too bad he didn't offer any hints.

My first reaction to this is that it is some sort of 'imprint' of someone saying a word, or something like that, a more sophisticated version of an oscilloscope read-out (e.g. http://www.swri.edu/4org/d14/EngAppl/Audio.htm).

I've tried playing with the levels etc., the only interesting thing is that when the picture is darkened, the border becomes gold. (probably just due to the scan though)
