[UPDATE] The Sentinel - July 28 - PCBC Heir Questioned

PCBC Heir Questioned
By ALWHIN COPI
Rumours are flying that the PCBC board of directors are increasingly dissatisfied with Walter Cove-Houghton, soon to step up to the CEO spot. Cove-Houghton will be replacing current long-time CEO Jonathan Smart, who is stepping down in September.

Some sources indicate that the board is showing an unsurprising resistance to change, and that nothing Cove-Houghton does could affect his reception. "The board are all friends with Jonathan, they spend evenings out playing poker and planning the future of the bank," said board member Jeanine Price. "We all know that Walter heralds a new day. ... We really need the skills and perspective he is bringing, so what we see now are just growing pains. We'll all get over it," she said.

But other sources close to the board disagreed, if off the record. "To be perfectly frank, Walter can be very abrasive," said one anonymous source. "It's true he's ushering in needed changes, but he doesn't have [Smart's] way of smoothing the ruffled feathers while he's getting the wheels spinning."

PCBC spokesman Cory Clary denied that there is any behind-the-scenes drama. He told reporters that the board has been "really positive" about Cove-Houghton's selection as the next CEO. "The board knows that Mr. Smart is staying in a position of influence, and that is more than enough to retain the confidence of all of the board, our investors, and of course our customers."

Although Jonathan Smart is formally stepping down as CEO, he will be remaining on the PCBC board indefinitely.

Recons Claim Media Bias
Representatives of the usually-reclusive Reconstructionist splinter group have come forward to accuse several media outlets, including the Sentinel itself, of an unreasoning and wholly unfounded bias against Cubist religions in general and Reconstructionism in particular.

Does that give you the impression that there are non-cubist religions out there? Why else "cubist religions in general"?

The brotherhood of the six page mentions:
Quote:
'''I've heard your prejudice. Cubes are no better than Pyramids or Spheres.'''
The Cube is the perfect, stable object. It symbolizes equality and freedom, without boundaries.

I take this to suggest the possibility of older religions. The reference to Pyramids recalls the game of pyramids (which may be a little bit like chess?) And in a stellar example of the mythos shaping the logos, the ancient cult of pyramidists may have spurred fForth the game of pyramids, which persists long after the cult has died away.

Also, it is possible perplexians have their own versions of our religius systems, in much lesser, more skewed fForms. Imagine Buddhism with no real sense of who buddha was. Or Islam without a Mecca. Or scientology where God really was fFrom another planet!

Maybe there are other religions, but then again, maybe not. After all, Brotherhood, Reconstructionists, Archers, Third Power etc. are all likely to be 'Cubist' in some sense...and so, I'd read 'cubist religions in general' as meaning 'those who profess Cubism in some form or other' - what's confusing is the use of 'religions' plural - after all, we don't speak of Protestant religions in general, or Buddhist religions in general, although there are plenty of separate sects and differing belief structures within the wider religious grouping. So, I'd say, it's a case of imprecise wording, and isn't intended to indicate much more than the fact that there are many separate Cubist groups.

ahh but we do speak of "monotheistic religions" (Judaism, Islam and Christianity, which share some common history) ... It's possible that Cubism with various 'religions' is a lot wider than (by analogy) Christianity with various 'faiths'
