VEC (vulpes et corvus) is Aesop's "The Fox and the Crow." in case anyone was curious.

We're starting to think that greywethers is OOG. It was registered in 2002 by a different registrar than the rest of the sites...

Wasn't Greywethers part of Chasing the Wish? I wasn't around for that but recall it being mentioned in a question to Dave Szulborski at ARGfest. It is supposedly a still unsolved puzzle from CTW, but I do not know if this is the same thing...

ARCANUM is def. IG. Go to www.arcanum-ultor.com/images/white.gif

(I got that through accidentily putting gif instead of jpg). That's the rock, and look where it's hosted.

Also, www.arcanum-ultor.com/images/white.jpg, when contrasted in photoshop, shows this http://sphid.com/a/white_contrasted.png (vesh is hosting the contrasted version)

ETA: All image file names that aren't hosted on Arcanum redirect to the rock pic on FoR...

OK, so the H A P letters are the key to decoding the message Omnifam received on June 29...where is that message? Did we get that? If someone has it, can you decode it using those letters?

I got the message, it's the one on the first page of this thread, the code. I already decoded it with Vigenere, that's how I got www.arcanum-ultor.com

Well I've found 3 images with different names, which all appear to be the same. Same exact file size, along with the floating words on the http://www.arcanum-ultor.com/ site:

CIA Hush Hair Joy
IOU, USA Kim
A Hat Away At Ok

There is a message off to the side, partially obscured that says:
My mind is confused, my thoughts are scrambled. I need to go back to the beginning.

And the images: sym.gif, bol.gif, and on a whim, I found symbol.gif at: http://www.arcanum-ultor.com/images/symbol.gif

FYI, when you open them in a new window, the URL is http://followersoframbaldi.com/images/key.jpg

I've uploaded all three...I don't have any decoding software, can anyone help with these images?

They're all the same -- any image that doesn't exist automatically redirects to the key.jpg at the FoR

This is a riddle...seems like we're looking for a 14 (remove 6 and 8 remain) letter name, that we remove the specified letters from to get the answer, which I presume is the password to the site you are led to after you click on proceed.

Any thoughs?

I tried the following passwords on the prompt and they didn't work:
nostradamus/davinci, vulpis/covus, fox/crow

This is weird...look at the sourcecode for the greyweathers login page. There are some letters in grey, which is obvious. BUT, there are some letters that seem to have a "font" change (to the same font, though) in the source code, which are NOT the grey letters. ie:
<! <p><font color="#000000" size="+2" face="Lucida
<! Handwriting">f<font color="#000000" size="+2" face="Lucida <!Handwriting">rom
<! the name you choose, remove the <!pairs<br>
<! of letters there identical.<br>"

Notice that in the example above, the letters F, V and E are separated?

Does this make any sense, or am I on crack? The letters I have picked out by this method are: BFVECHTML.

Thanks!
D-

ETA: okay, maybe a little crack because most of those letters ARE the grey ones but why are the first ones of the paragraph singled out as well? Like B and F?

PS> Don't know if this has been mentioned, but Grey Wethers is a set of stone circles in Dartmoor (see http://www.themodernantiquarian.com/post/37074 and http://www.hearthside.co.uk/Greywethers/greywethers.htm) also http://members.aol.com/dartmoorlander/dartmoor/greywethers.htm

PPS> Oh yeah, Greyweathers.net was part of Chasing The Wish as mentioned earlier (though I never played it myself). I don't know if this is really ingame or if the PM's recycled/borrowed it because it was never solved during CTW and maybe they thought it was too good a puzzle to lay waste? There was some mention of using it in a closing mini-quest but I don't know if they ever did. See http://www.collectivedetective.org/campaign/wish/evidence/?section=670

Aesop

The poem at http://www.greywethers.net/vec.html is an Aesop Fairy tale, "The Fox and the Crow"

Here's a translation online: http://www.mythfolklore.net/aesopica/phaedrus/113.htm

ps. I'm new to this ARG deal...and I haven't ever watched Alias. Is it recommended that I do?

I believe the whole greywethers puzzle is part of an older ARG called Chasing the Wish. http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1378

Hmm so why does it redirect to that? An IG shoutout to the Chasing the Wish PMs?

Y'know, someone asked Dave about the Greywethers login during the Art of the H3ist panel at ARGfest last weekend. He said he wouldn't give the solution, and indicated (subtextually, because I can't remember what he said, exactly, but the timbre was there) that it would still be used in the future for something.
