Sable+Shuck update: press release

There is a press release on the S+S website!

There are deliberating who came closest, and also give us clues to still try and solve the puzzle.
It also looks like SA may contact us to discuss the game and answer some of our questions.

http://www.sableshuck.com/press_release.pdf

press release text:

Sable & Shuck regret to inform you that the solution to the final puzzle set was not overcome.
We are currently deliberating who was the closest in correctly answering the puzzle.
We would like to thank those involved. The correct solution to the final puzzle is as follows.
Ordering the symbols required two mathematical principles.
1. Cardinality: the value of each sign – calculated by adding the number of occurrences in
the three press advertisements.
2. Ordinality: the relationship between the items and (in the case of this puzzle and the
campaign the central item of Stella Artois – represented by the star). This is calculated by
measuring which item was closest to Stella Artois within the advertisements.
The relevant clues to this were 'order', 'worth of a thing' and 'beginning'.
Sable & Shuck invite participants to solve the puzzle. At this point in time you will be given the
opportunity to register for two tickets to a Stella Artois event as a thank you for your involvement.
The event will be held in London in the next two weeks.
In the meantime Sable & Shuck has invited Stella Artois to contact various user groups and
forums to discuss the involvement of the two in the past 12 months and also answer some
questions that have been raised.

Wow.

Seems almost apologetic, like SA realizes things didn't go exactly as planned (it also seems like they've responded in good faith to our post-ARG concerns). I'm ineligible for the prize, but good luck to those who are eligible (make good use of the money).

Shame the flash file with the puzzle is not loading just now though!

But yeah it is good to finally have news on this and a clarification of what was expected of us to try and find the puzzle. I don't recall anyone mentioning anything like their ordinality principle eg.

Ah well, let's go back to the old threads where the number of symbols was discussed, and noone could agree on how many there were!

(and no chance of me being in london at the time of their stella screen event either)

At last.

I can't believe that the puzzle's answer was based on how many objects were in the original print ads and how close they were (physically) from the words stella artois...

it just seems so random and of track compared to the rest of the game... in fact it's almost OUT of game.

Anyway, we can now solve the game... all we need are the original print ads.... anyone got them? We NEED THEM NOW.
WE need to count how many objects appear, and their distance form the words 'stella artois'. It's useless having the original Olaf Veltman photos because they don't have the stella logo on them.

come on... someone must have them... scan them if you do!!

All I could find was from the Lowe website:
link

The words 'Stella Artois' are not printed, only 'reassuringly expensive'. Closer to Stella Artois could be closer to the bottles or keg on the pictures?

[edit] fixed link to prevent uberwide web page -bill

That's the way I read it. That's what Stella is - not some printed words on a page, imho.

I would like to be the first person to congratulate Stella on this ARG. I know this press release took a long time in coming as did most of the clues! I honestly feel that answers like this open up the ARG experience even more and hopefully we can go past the usual: check source - check steg etc etc

This was the first real ARG i got involved with, and in turn it introduced me to UF where i recently parcipated in (mostly lurked) many great games in the last six months or so.

I know the answer was obscure but if everything in life was boring & straight forward we just wouldnt bother with it.

Apologies in advance for my drunk ramblings (thank you once again schtella)

Woohoo! This is pretty cool. They aren't totally evil, see?

I agree they're referring to the distance between the symbols and the bottles/kegs in the pictures. I actually toyed with this idea in the dying hours of the game, but discarded it pretty quickly because there's multiple appearences of some symbols, so how should we know what distance to measure? Gah!

My login is borked, but fortunately I'm using a friend's instead. Hopefully one of us can crack this and share the solution, and maybe we can have a bit of a meet up at this event. I hope there's free booze! Smile

I can't believe that was the way to get the solution! With the number of symbols i got, i actually tried every combination possible! And to think, all i did wrong was probably miscount how many of a certain symbol there were!
Oh well. Fingers crossed! I couldnt find a dog in the end. DId anyone find one? Or more than one snake/crow/trident?
I agree to the free booze anyway.

The logo on the door (in the Office ad) is Cerberus, apparently, which either counts as 1 or 3, because it has three heads. I can only see one snake, but other people say they can see two.

You would think once they practically give us the solution, this would make the puzzle easy as eating pie mmmm, pie... sorry, got distracted there. But alas, once again I have tried a lot of combinations.

The distances is an interesting way of doing it but this was discarded when we realised how many different distances there were per object, especially the fire! So back again to pondering Smile

I'm getting a message saying

'This login is no longer valid'

Anyone else get this? It's the same link and login I've used all along.

EDIT: I've also tried running through the helpmefindjon and sable and shuck test from scratch with a new ID (which they are, bizarrely, still giving out) to no avail.

Game On

OK folks...here's my take on Ordinality.

Closest first...

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
1. Fire - from the boxes the Stella is setting on in the Airfield ad.

2. Snake - it appears that there's a snake at the base of the sign support post in the Crossroads ad.

3. Trident - again, leaning against the sign in the Crossroads ad.

4. Hound - I'll have to take GuyP's word on this...it's on the door of the Office ad.

5. Butterfly - on the far wall of the Office ad.

6. Raven - on the power pole of the Crossroads ad.

Yep, same problem here, although I know that other people are still successfully able to access the puzzle.

Navin, thanks for sharing. One problem, though, is that the butterfly has to be in fourth position, based on that flyer thingy.

Lets get those pics on this. Ill keep digging. if i find them ill post them.
