[OOG] Liftport Comic "To the stars"

I just got todays liftport comic strip and it has a sign with the number "9" on it. Just like in the pictures captured off the video on the sign.

Coincidence?

Scott

ps. if this is the wrong place to post this please move it to a new thread.

ya i saw that too. I wonder if that klingon script is supposed to mean anything. I see the first 2 symbols as 34 and the next 2 could be something else. If it is supposed to mean anything at all.

I mean lifeport has been around a while but this is too much coincidence to leave alone.

Hi I'm new to all this ARG stuff and got the same email today as you.The Klingon symbols in the comic don't seem to match any in the Klingon Alphabet so I'm stumped

I'm as confused as you are on that one. When I initially read the Orbital Colony threads on this board a lot of people were under the impression it wasn't an 'in game' site.
I signed up for the email on the liftport site out of curiosity and recieved my first email today which was the aforementioned comic strip. The file name of the attachment was something like "NyeinsRevision".Googled Nyeins which took me to the Liftport site, more specifically the gallery section to what seems like a company hiking trip.So I'm now very confused. What a great way to start in the ARG field Laughing

I totally agree. I am new to this genre but I have played many a puzzle games on the interweb. I signed up to the links hoping they would pan out and this seems to have alot in common. I wonder if the signup form has a referral link associated with it to know whether it is game based or not. I wouldn't doubt the fact that a genuine website/company would agree to play a part in such a game to help their own promotion.

It's not in game.

Brain\Storm is referring to this thread. I think we can still safely assume Liftport and Orbital Colony do not have anything to do with eachother, although Liftport's subject is one of those "almost to good to be true" things. The number 9 sign is a pretty thin relation to link the two together I'm afraid.

That would indeed not be unthinkable at all, but it is safe to assume that we indeed would have a stronger signal that there's a link between the two. Generally, ARGs have found very creative ways in the past to show the players if a site is in-game. That is a much needed mechanism to prevent players from harassing all sorts of genuine people/companies that have nothing to do with the game, which happens when speculation runs wild (as it should Smile ).

The only thing that I've noticed which seemed a tiddly bit odd was that in the week or so before the launch i was getting a lot more emails from Eve Sibley (from the Williamsburg Warriors), and the LiftPort Group... I realise they're both OOG, but it's quite strange how that sort of thing tends to happen - you don't think of something for a while, then loads of stuff suddenly happens at the same time... Hey ho...

Well, the '9' sign is on a cloud, thus denoting "cloud nine", or a state of bliss, which happens to be the state of the main character. Also, the phrase "to the stars" doesn't have the word "Road" in it, where as orbicon always focus on the *road* to the stars. So I'd say the link seems pretty insubstantial.

Well, yes it is a coincidence. I understand that sometime back we (we being Liftport Group) were asked if some our imagery could be used in a video for 'Orbital Colony' and permission was given. But that is the only connection I am aware of.

This might explain the odd spike in traffic in our message boards following the release of the July CBT. Traffic jumped nearly 80% in the next 12 hours, but very little to no posting - just people reading the old threads.

If you have signed up for email simply due to the ARG .. stick around. We're serious about building an SE system - the ride should be exciting.

I really did like the video, by the way.

I know it's not IG but I got an email from Liftports today...

Greetings all,
Welcome to the October Art news letter. We have a pretty fun image for you this
week. But first I wanted to let you guys know our schedule for the up and coming
weeks.

This weekend from the 28th to the 30th, our head of engineering David and
President Michael will be at Dream Con. If you are in the area stop by, visit
our panels and come say "Hi". Dream Con is located at: Quality Inn/Comfort Inn
at 101 128th Street in Southeast Everett WA. For more information on Dream Con
visit www.dreamconwa.org

Also
International Association of Nanotechnology www.ianano.org/ San Francisco Oct.
31-Nov. 4

National Business Aviation Association web.nbaa.org/public/cs/amc/2005/ Nov 9-11
Space Vision 2005 SEDS www.space2005.org Illinois Nov. 10-13

The complete re-design of our website is coming along great. Valentin has been
working like a machine on that. You guys can expect a lot of information and a
lot of imagery once it's completed. The new website will also have a great
navigation system. Valentine has really done a great job.

Ok, now to proceed to the drawing end of things. I have been working on this new
brilliant lifter design with Tom lately and I wish I could share some of it with
you guys. I can't show them yet because we have yet to patent the technology,
but let me tell you guys, it's something else! That Tom is one smart guy.
Hopefully in a few months we would have moved on this far enough that I can
share those drawings with you.

The rendering I will be sharing with you today is a new postcard image that I
worked on. The postcards have not been printed but I just thought I'd share the
image with you guys before the actual cards went to the press.

First I did a few series of sketches. I picked out two of my favorites. The
first one had some nice details in it, but I liked the second one better. It
told the story better and it was a bit more obvious about what we were doing in
the image.

http://www.liftport.com/gallery/album05/octobersketch1

Once I had the image picked out I added some minor hue and value to the image
just to make it stand out from the rest of the sketches.

http://www.liftport.com/gallery/album05/octobersketch2

Now that I'm happy with the values and the lightings I redid the image on a
separate rendering sheet and I rendered it. Once the rendering was done the
image was taken into Photoshop and the sky was added along with a few other
minor value tweaks.

http://www.liftport.com/gallery/album05/octoberpostcard

This is the image of our 1000ft balloon test back in September. I'm personally
fond of this image because
1. I took the photo.
2. It showed a very good scale of things. It really lets the viewer get an idea
of how big each balloon is compared to a person and a truck.
3. It has a very calm and soothing feel to it. It's a perfect image for a post
card. Even though, ideas like "peace and serenity" were not anywhere near us,
during the actual test.

Well that's the art for this month. I'll keep you posted for when the postcards
will be available. Before we go I'd like to ask our readers a question. See
we're building up a merchandise store for various Space Elevator products. What
would you guys like to see/purchase from a Space Elevator merchandise store?

Okay well that's it for this month's letter. Make sure to read up on our other
news letters and always feel free to drop me a line: nyein.aungSPLATliftport.com
Put "All You Can Eat Tacos" or something in the subject line and it'll get my
attention better.

ALL YOU CAN EAT TACOS?!?!?! I'm there
