Unfiction advice column What would you do if someone you didn't know stole a picture of your baby's ultrasound to use as the background pic on their website? (And didn't even bother to host it themselves?)

I'd approach SpaceBass about it directly and ask him what right he had to use the pic in ther first place!

hehe. Space is that you? I didn't know your name was Amy. Please take that down. I mean, c'mon, my name is on there. And its a picture of my insides, that's kinda sick.

If they're linking to your image, can't you just rename it so their link is broken? And leave a note in their guest book.

Or, put up a disgusting picture of something, rename your ultrasound pic, name the gross picture whatever the first pic was called, and then go back to their site to make sure that it's substituted!
That's just the vindicitive side of me talking, though.

Oh, a much better idea! Do it! Tell us how it turned out!

OK, so that's what we had already done. You can see the results here . I'll warn you though that if you don't like seeing a 20-year old guy in a bra, please don't go there.
I was feeling a little guilty about it so that's why I figured I'd ask around here. I wasn't sure if that was being a little too vindictive. This is the second time it has happened. For some reason people like to go to our personal gallery and borrow our pictures. The first time my husband emailed the guy several times, politely asking him to remove the picture or host it himself. He refused. So soon after that he had a giant picture of a festering wound on his site. Ick. Normally, I wouldn't mind if they would host them on their own site. I mean, we have the pictures on the internet and anyone can see them so its fine with me if someone likes our crappy photography enough to think of it as art. It's just seems creepy to have the inside of my uterus on someone's site.
Although, maybe I should take it down, because according to Amy she often takes walks with Jesus and I would hate to piss him off.

Is Amy the offender? She needs to take more of those walks with Jesus. Stealing is not allowed. So I don't think you'll piss him off.
BTW, the sonogram picture is still there, if that one's yours. So maybe she's hosting it herself now. No guy in a bra. Darn!!

Actually, I am seeing the skinny guy with a bra as the background picture when I clicked on the above link. Myssfitz, try 'refreshing', your browser may be loading a cached version.

The skinny guy with a bra is hysterical. And it makes the red text so difficult to read. It also proves that Amy doesn't check her site that often.
All in all, an appropriate response, I think.

odd. I'm also getting a sonagram pic and, seeing as how I've never visited the site before, it shouldn't be a cached version (though I refreshed a bunch of times just to be sure).
That is odd. Did you try clearing your cache too? Is it still there then?

Varin,
Did you notice that she put this up on her page last night?
"I would like to apologize for the picture someone must have hacked into my account and now this dumb picture is stuck!!! NICE JUNK huh! Well once again I apologize for the sins of others; I can't figure out how to get rid of this I will conti. to try if it can't be fixed I will delete this site."
Som she is blaming you for hacking her server to change the picture. Perhaps you should place a comment for her to read.

well i added a comment. Stupid site made me register before commenting. We'll see how she responds. Maybe she doesn't even realize that she was stealing bandwidth if she assumed that someone hacked into her xanga account. She doesn't strike me as a power-PC user.

Maybe you should start serving your background picture from your own server. Stealing bandwidth isn't nice (theft is a sin!) Probably what happened is that the owner of the server that the picture WAS on changed the picture.

Well, it's not easy to read the small black print against the hunting dog wallpaper. But at least it isn't your picture in the background anymore, Varin. Case solved?
BTW, how did you find out she was using your sonogram as wallpaper in the first place?

When looking at the stats of our gallery page, my husband noticed a ton of hits for the sonogram from that page. If she had just saved the pic and had it on her own server, I never would have known. Like I said before, it was just a little too creepy for me to ignore. Yay! Case solved!
