step, that address is quite near my work, so I'll try and check it out.

However, I am doubtful that a single store would have such a barcode system. Compare this with M&S, a national chain where everything is own-brand.

Well, I'm not sure how doubtful it really is. The code 22 for the numbering system means that the code only works within that specific store - similar to using a private IP address of 192.168.x.x on a local private network. So assuming that the store uses a barcode system to manage its inventory then it's not completely out of the question.

If it's not associated with that store then I fear it will be extremely difficult to track down( because of the numbering system of 22); You would have to scour quite a few places and products to find similar barcodes in use.

The only additional info to be gleaned from the barcode is the W and G. So, if you know of any other places in the London area that may be a more appropriate match for those letters, feel free to check them out as I live in the States and have no idea about what shops you have over there. Smile

I guess we will know soon enough, but I'm hoping we get lucky.

OK, I went past the Westminster Grocery last night, but it was closed. It is a very small convenience store, so I doubt it uses its own barcodes.

I think it is more likely to be a store chain with own-brand goods - I suggested Walmart (Group) before, and they own the Asda chain here, but I don't know if they really use the letters W G. There are a few Asdas in London but nowhere near where I live or work.

Good job!

I think we have pretty much confirmed that the 50 barcode is bamboo shoots.

If the 88 barcode isn't noodles, I'll eat my ... lunch.

singapore food industries have a couple of subsidiaries in the UK. maybe worth giving the UK places a call, although maybe not the second company as they seem to be non-asian food related.

EDIT: just noticed that SFI have their own little online store called e-mart. it's a long shot, but I have emailled them asking if the barcode belongs to any of their products.

if you look down the left hand side, there is a link to the UK companies, with UK addresses.

My two cents:

Given the ingredients so far, it's probably a chicken stir-fry of some kind, and the last ingredient is likely a sauce of some kind (peanut satay, black bean, lemongrass, etc).

As I understand it, barcodes starting with a 5 denote a coupon.

Maybe its buy one get one free on noodles?!

we've practically confirmed that the barcode starting with 5 is bamboo shoots, the only one we haven't got yet is the one starting with 8.
(singapore food industries haven't emailled me back btw...)

Hey, all! Wink
I'm brand new to this hunt and site, but not to puzzles and treasure hunts. :::::waving to doublecross:::::
Anyway, I'd like to try and help, and I haven't seen this mentioned. If the 4th ingredient is 'fried noodles', we may be able to cook 'Chicken Chow Mein'.

I've attempted to send a fax from my office to the Singapore Article Number Council, or GS1 Singapore, asking what company the 888 barcode relates to.

The fax setup here is a rickety old business, though, so I'm not sure how effective it's been. Still, I'll let you know if I get a response.
