4th Email from Caretaker plus response about Chicago Drop

Subject: Conference Follow Up

My intention last night was to provide you a bit more background information. It seems that intention was subverted a bit.

Having worked in the U.S. Intelligence community for many years, I've seen some pretty strange things. I retired a few years ago with 27 years of service to my country. Compared to my tenure, the old guard had it pretty good. They existed when the world was black and white. Well, let's say red and white. Everyone knew who the bad guys were and our men had the balls and the support to do what needed to be done. But ever since Nixon got busted with his hand in the cookie jar, we've had to deal with more and more crap from Congressional oversight committees, watchdog groups, left wing human rights groups, and the media
breathing down our necks. They don't realize democracy continues to work because guys like me slug it out in the trenches and do what has to be done. It isn't always pretty. I swear if I had still been with the company during 9/11, we'd have nailed that Osama bastard by now instead of running around covering our asses. We haven't had such a major, public screwup since Jack decided to play
Russian Roulette in '61.

During my service, the majority of my assignments consisted of gathering
intelligence from Soviet scientists. Our primary mission was to assess and
appropriate their military research, but we also had opportunities to hamper their efforts through various forms of psychological and industrial sabotage.
One of my favorite tricks was to infiltrate the black market for high end
equipment, supplies and chemicals. Everyone knew the Russkies produced crap.
Consequently, Western goods were always in high demand. By infiltrating their black market, I was able to obtain valuable contacts in the research community and exert leverage with key scientists through extortion and blackmail. Once in a blue moon, I would encounter individuals who were so disenfranchised by the Soviet system that I was able to turn them into assets.

Imagine my surprise to wake up one morning recently and discover one of those assets on C-Span testifying before Congress on some budget appropriation bill. I later found out he's working at some research university in Arizona. Now I'm not normally the kind of person to ever forget a face, but this guy was unforgettable. I remembered helping him defect. I remembered him working on some really bizarre physics project. I remembered how willing he was to destroy his
life's work when he fled his homeland. But mostly I remember his sadness. He never confided in me, but I sensed a dark secret - something terrible - something he regretted. To find him now in a position of prominence is remarkable.

I only recently discovered the root of his sadness. The human cost of his
research was astronomical. To discover that he is continuing his research at New River U. absolutely astounds me. I'm going to try to liberate some additional documents regarding the original project. You'll know what they are when you see them.

Looks like he sent you two messages, but he didn't tell you where he put them. All we have to do now is find them.

Perhaps that IS the drop...maybe the messages aren't physically in Chicago but on a Chicago-related website (Tourism Chicago, Chicago the Movie)..or maybe the msgs are on blackvault.com?

Black Vault

This morning, I tried to find them on black vault. I do not think they are there. They list them as posts not messages, and if i replace the numbers to the posts, it comes up with usual Republican/Democrat partisan banter.

What do you guys think about the chicago reference?

Hi Kim Smile
Thanks for the info..I just registered for a blackvault email to see if perhaps it's just the way that it references an email you're replying to...will let you all know. Otherwise we could be on the trail for something good, but I would think that if it was another puzzle it would be sent with his email to everyone? Not sure how it works, cause I'm a Noobie.

Thanks D-

PS Love the Avatar Kim!

That was my suggestion this morning. I was hesitant myself to join black vault, and suggested RAM do it since he was trying to figure it out. However, he did not think that it could happen that way. Please let me know what you find out. I hate signing up for new things, I get about 1000 spam messages a day as it is.

PS Thank you Wink

Open games

OK, lets go back to the Play with Turk bit....
http://games.cs.ualberta.ca/TheTurk/PLAY

Quote:
Resume an old game against The Turk!
If you can give me the game ID of the game we can resume playing at the last position. However, two days after your last move we remove your game and you will not be able to access it anymore!

Going to try it now, watch this space for edits.
***EDIT***

Got the same error message:
WWW: problems in connecting to The Turk server

So that is a no go.

Time to check our favorite conspiracy site CFRG...

***EDIT #2***
Can't find it there either. Must be hidden on one of the mirror folders.
Spec: could be the additional documents promissed to us?

Possible hits

Reid had these attached to an e-mail reply concerning a Chicago drop:

><< msg-9850-4.html >>
><< msg-9821-3.html >>

So far the best we can come up with are these two site at [CTRL] (Thanks Addlepated)

http://www.mail-archive.com/ctrl@listserv.aol.com/msg98504.html
http://www.mail-archive.com/ctrl@listserv.aol.com/msg98213.html

But they are missing the dashes in the url.

Kimbean has been searching the mirror sites at CFRG and NRU, but the could be buried deeper...
Anyone who has an idea of places to dig please either tell us in the #acheron room or post it, so we can get a critical mass looking.

At this point the two sites mentioned above
msg98504 - mentioned Magnetic Rail Launcher
msg98213 - mentioned Hypnosis as mind control on mental patients, with a trigger word.
Quote:
The next step is Level 3 hypnosis, where the subject will become an "overwrite" upon his own personality. An "overwrite" is a new identity or personality. It is similar to having multiple personalities, except the original personality is repressed or hidden under the "overwrite" and will not surface for a set period of time which is determined by the Programmer.
...
Once Level 3 Programming has been "overlaid" upon the new subject's own personality, he/she is once again given a "recall service order" and is then discharged. The subject will be monitored to see how well he functions with his new personality. If everything goes well, he will be recalled for further programming.

Reid has e-mailed Caretaker to verify if this is the solve.

While we wait we will keep looking.

Re: the mind control link from the conspiracy site. That seems too on the money to be coincidental. Caretaker has stated, hasn't he, that Reggie's got knowledge trapped/hidden in his mind that needs to be extricated somehow? Forseti2k2k and handofeir were trying to pry knowledge out of him, so apparently the "gray people" don't know the trigger. Is Reggie somehow aware of the info he's storing? Is the whole Turk thing a way to unlock his addled brain?

Just vamping here. I'm totally out of my league when it comes to chess and political conspiracies! (Though I had to roll my eyes at the whole Bilderburg/Trilateral Commission/Council on Foreign Relations spiel in that link/article. Why are all these kooks so predictable?)

Edited to add: Ooops, sorry for the duplicate info; I didn't see that Magesteff had included the trigger info to her post. Smile

SOLVED RED HERRING

SOLVED...

Reid, I'm very sorry to be the one to tell you this, and I wish it was better news.
Crying or Very sad

The messages that were attached, but could not be opened, I have a suspicion about what they are and am waiting for an email from my own Black Vault account with a forward og Your e-mail to Kim. I think we may discover that the reason they show up is because the first message is a copy of the first one from Caretaker that you used in reply and the second one is a copy of your own e-mail. The reason you can't open them is because they are stored in the "members only" section of Black Vault, and since you were not accessing it from inside a BV account, you could not open them.

I am really really very sorry Reid. I was hoping for something better, too.

And thanks to Addlepated for that Trigger info. Great find Addle!

Mage I think Addle found the solve for the msgs at the end of RAM's email. Do you have something you can show us from blackvault that makes you think it's just a messaging archive system?

Addle found the message numbers at CTRL which was one of the sites we were redirected to from the login page. The homepage address for CTRL is:

http://www.ctrl.org/graphicHome/CTRLhome.html

So far it's just my opinion that these are the pages we were meant to find.We don't have confirmation. There may be other pages out there or this may not be a puzzle at all. But I think it is Smile

I had Kimbean send Reid's message to me at a Blackvault addy:
this is how I discovered that BV was stripping the attachments:

Note: Attachment file names bolded, and are in the same format as the two named in Reid's e-mail.
