It's... weird. The links are behaving rather randomly or not at all, it looks polished but in a "standard" way somehow and indeed they are being very OOG in an unusual way... "we have very experienced PM's" so who are Dark Elements then??

I feel so sad ARGing is more and more about this where it's all about anouncements, polished websites, trailers etc... where's the good old iron-curtained-well-hidden-subtly-discovered-rabbithole-ARG?! I miss you Sad I miss all the mysteriousness Crying or Very sad

The meta site goes through its pages in order from start to finish, no matter what you click on. When it's done, the transitional animation blocks close and don't open again. You have to refresh to look at the site again.

Nobody knows whether the submission form works.

On the "ARGs" page, under the "on the web" section heading, there is a picture with a circle-thing. On mousover it makes a different sound than any of the other pictures. Significant?

On the "About" page, under the "answers" heading, if you click on the hidden link, you are taken to puzzle.html.

Dude, that's totally DNA. The picture is entitled "andsoitbegins.jpg". The chemical structure shown on the right side does not include nucleotides, and it does not match the length of the "scanned" part on the space-filling model on the left side.

Get to it, people; I don't have all day!

Hmm. "Akalesh"?

Derived from Akhilesh, maybe? I'm not familiar with the name "Akalesh."

Upon Googling the company, "Dark Element", I came across what appears to be its yet blank blog.

http://www.darkelement.net/

It may be nothing, but it may also be something to check on.

I'm thinking that there could be a relation between this game and [URL=http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=11841]this[/URL] forum thread. There seem to be some pretty convenient links: the apparent commercial nature of this ARG, the kind of Egyptian theme.... I could be wrong, but my magic 8 Ball tells me that "All signs point to yes."

The only thing wrong with that is that the launch date stated in that thread is 1st october not february 2006 Confused

I noticed some faint writing on the parchments in the background of the flash, I was able to isolate it and recognized it as a Mobil Oil sign from around the 1940's (images attached, not sure if it has any bearing on the game, but thought I would post anyways just in case. ( I knew being a gearhead would someday come in handy...lol) Gargoyle could turn out to be a keyword for something later, who knows?

We finally solved the first puzzle:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
<Sin_Vraal> http://www.akalesh-ascendant.com/deoxyribose.html

I feel so sorry for Ehsan who wrote: [13:52] <Ehsan> and now I HATE THIS ARG BECAUSE deoxyribose.htm doesnt work!!!!!

Basically, the puzzle pic is showing a DNA structure where the stacked base pairs are blurred out but the sugar-phosphate backbone on the outside of the neucleotides is highlighted. The sugar is deoxyribose in this case

Puzzle 2 is a male voice talking:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
strifey recognized it as Albert Einstein so we go to: http://www.akalesh-ascendant.com/einstein.html

Puzzle 3 is a blackboard with some writing on it:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
It's Uranium decay and Anerian was the first to come up with that it decays to radon: http://www.akalesh-ascendant.com/radon.html

Puzzle 4 is an audio morse code puzzle:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
cather managed to decode the first word of the audio - while Sin_Vraal just jumped ahead and figured out the whole thing.

[21:46] <Sin_Vraal> that's the date morse code was first transmitted 'What has god wraught' - I knew i'd heard that before

As the audio file is named mmddyyyy.wav the answer is http://www.akalesh-ascendant.com/05241844.html

Puzzle 5 is another audio puzzle:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Anyone who was in Chicago for the Zombie Mimes (as well as Sin again) knows this song is Fur Elise. http://www.akalesh-ascendant.com/furelise.html

Okay, we think this puzzle actually has two answers. We stumbled on the second answer accidently from the furelise.html page. cather read the comment as meaning 'who wrote fur elise' and thus Beethoven: http://www.akalesh-ascendant.com/beethoven.html

This takes us to a different Puzzle 6 then the furelise answer. From here out, I'll use [a] to denote the furelise branch and [b] for the beethoven branch.

Puzzle 6[a] is a cipher:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Comment in the source says "The key to this cipher is the man who made it". It's a multiple Vigenere cipher. strifey decoded it to "Blaise Vigenere was not the inventor of this cipher to proceed who was"

First step, use 'vigenere' as keyword get blaise and gibberish. Remove the first 6 letters of the original cipher (# of letters in blaise) and use 'blaise' as the keyword. Get vigenere and gibberish. Remove the next 8 letters of original cipher and use 'vigenere' again, etc.

The answer is Giovan Batista Belaso which gets us to Puzzle 7 (thanks to SpaceBass for the correct url): http://akalesh-ascendant.com/giovanbatistabelaso.html

We haven't solved these yet, but as ppl are going to bed in chat, I'd thought I'd post what they had gotten so far.

6[b] seems to be some sort of word search
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
So far, we've found these names in the grid:

machiavelli, luther, bellini, kepler, caravaggio, calvin, botticelli, michaelangelo, bacon, titian, raphael, medici, da vinci, nunes, eyck, nardi, rudan

This leaves us with the letters: ABYUSUFYQUBIBISHAQRAMLSABBAUHALKIHTML

Notice the html at the end - but we haven't been able to do anything with it.

7[a] is a sudoku puzzle.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
strifey figured out the numbers in the sodoku

543 619 278
169 782 453
728 453 619
271 548 396
495 136 827
386 927 541
612 395 784
957 864 132
834 271 965

There also happens to be 23 different colored question marks in the puzzle - 2 of each color. If you consider each of the following initial letters to be a different color, the pairs work out to: A=59 B=46 C=75 D=88 F=66 G=78 I=82 J=61 K=76 L=58 M=75 N=95 O=36 Q=89 R=65 S=97 T=68 U=37 W=85 X=93 Y=71 Z=86

So that's where we are right now. Happy solving Very Happy

I would just like to confirm that I did try deoxyribose.html (not htm) as confirmed by my firefox cache which shows a very nice 404 page. I took that same 404 cached page and did a hard refresh, and whadayaknowitworksnow!

So we find a site before we're supposed to and the trail isn't done, no problem.

But when you DO fix it then don't pretend nothing happened. Give us a slight nudge, change the page title to "Sorry for keeping you waiting".. or just put a link to the next puzzle and call it "oops, now it's ready".

I'm hurt.
